Well, i am a med player all the way through (most of my battles in heavies are in my first 10 k, when i was a noob), and heavies that i play (and enjoy) are medium-like (T-10, Patriot)... I am not sure will i enjoy the defender at all - since i like T-10 more than IS-3 (and perform better, too). I will play the defender a lot today on a friend acc to test my feelings. A super-armored, but derpier IS-3 gives me a mixed feelings. I bought patriot without that kind of test, and was not disappointed - but it was obvious from the stats that i will fall in love with it - I like good pen pew-pew guns+tanks with gun depression and fair speed/good view range. Why do i enjoy playing O-Ho so much then? Never liked the derps before...hated the T49, KV-2, O-I and O-No, and Pz. 4 too. maybe it would click with me...I have 3 Soviet heavy crews, so a premium tank would be nice.

Buy gold when there is a nice discount, like paypal thing, if you buy it at all... You can even stack the discounts sometimes by paying with paypay + buying bigger amounts (seen it once or twice so far).

You could have won all tokens easily. Todays mission completed in a single T67 game, not even top tier. Just farmed on a landslide loss in tier 6 on Steppes. did 2x of the next guy. hardest mission time-wise was 10 x 2000 dmg games for me, meaning i could not simply seal-club my way to completion. probably because I did it with Kranvagn, to make the top of the tree in the same time - you either do 3-4 k, or less than 2...took 17 games and 2 hours...

    T-34-85M appreciation thread

I think his problem is that he simply refuses to improve in game. you can do it in a number of ways, not just by getting better at tanks. It also depend on the way you play a tank. I play my meds in tier 4-6 like a scout/TD combo, with occasional "med thing", i.e. flanking/harrasing7circle of death- but not all that often. I know my high WR in a tier 4 tank (T-28) is almost solely from high tier games - i see one top tier game in 5 on average. but high acc+pen+dpm+390 view range before binocs count a lot. When playing Crommie or A-43 i do take care of map rotation, though - if there is a lot of prokh/mali/karelia/lakeville, I play them almost exclusively, but when map rotation decides to roll Ruinberg/himmels, I chance to heavies. There is a mod for that, and also on Wotlabs main site. It is not foolproof, but consider that there is only like 1/3rd of maps in rotation at max. I know my WR is good there, since my dmg/spot is actually higher in higher tier games (but i am a very conservative player). It is just the ratio that changes - I simply spot and track targets with more hp, while my gun feels anemic to actually do much dmg. But players in tier 6 are mostly unable to take advantage of my 400 m far away spots...in tier 8 i am 1st by exp just by assisting 2-3 TD shots. You have to take the encounter and assault mode into account, some maps that are great for meds are usually there. Playing those two modes with heavies is kinda bad (mostly assault, encounter is fantastic for super slow heavies like Maus or japs - there is only one base to defend, and only one chokepoint to win) @lavawing i suggest micropositioning thread to learn to play tier 6 meds. playing them well was my break from potato to blue pretty much.

Well...true. In random battles they are OP, bun not monstruosly so. There are still tier 10 TDs, plenty of arty, and jap derps in tiers 6-10 to kill them...and plenty of tanks they can not pen. But in strongholds they are the new meta, and team that has Defenders simply rolls over teams with IS-3s (or Liberte/Patriot OP setup that dominated for what...3 months?). Liberte/Patriot setups could be countered with skillful play, but Defenders stomp on 3/4 of maps. Teams with CDC/M 41 + IS-6/T-34 or simply tech tree grind tanks are doomed to lose even from reddest teams there is, or win by capping. That alpha is simply too big for the reload. Old KV1-S could be forced to trade 2 for 1 by plenty of tanks (and it had bad hull armor, even turret was easy pen for good guns of same tier or gold), like M6 and T-150, but 440 for 320 or 390 (and you bounce plenty of gold off LFP) is the only option - there is less than 1.5 sec longer reload than IS-3 has, while other tanks (like KT or T32) are simply too slow to force the trading, and soft like wet cardboard in comparison. Hitting those hatches is a pain in the ass even for E-50 beyond 50 m, and most tanks miss them if he wiggles even slightly even point-blank. I know this game is going to die off eventually, but I am so tempted to buy next time it goes out. My car is also called Defender, so meme material...they behave kinda similar.... I expect the will roll it out for Victory day, instead of the tried and tested Berlin trio (everybody who wanted them has them by now - and that was a bad bargain compared to Defender, despite being really good at the time).

    T-34-85M appreciation thread

A 43 is great even at tier 8. 57 mm+apcr+hovercraft...i use 50 % AP, since i often ass rape heavies... i use optics and binos, BOTH. 1st game today, lakeville, tier 8. top dmg (1.5 k), just 2 k spot bc my team is retarded in shooting 9 spotted tanks. Tier 6 has plenty of great tanks. And the number of bad tanks is far greater at some other tiers, 7 is the worst overall. Tier 8 meds and lights are worse than tier 6 mostly. Only heavies and TDs are better in tier 8.

It is not dead, it just has a bigger, nastier brother. IS-3>>>>>>every other tank except Defender. there are not that many around. i expect more on victory day.

Emil I vs Emil II - Which do you prefer?

i never burned in the whole grind. but crew death was as bad as module dmg, so i guess you pick food or gas, not both. engine is too weak to have real benefit from gas, that works for tanks with plenty of horses+bad terrain resist.

    T54E1 - OP or not?

400 base is too good to pass the optics. T54e1 should follow the same route as E50/M vision kiting: max the view range, burn enemy camo, it is worth more than your own camo boost. E-50 M has the benefit of being able to feast on heavies, while T54e1 not so much - you have a awkward tank with bad acc, bad gun dep, crummy gun handling, bad pen, and high alpha/burst. It would feast on meds if it had gun handling/gun dep , or on heavies, if it was more like 50 120 (good gun dep now, nice gold pen). It has a problem of finding a perfect engagement - that is why I suffered a lot in it. Skoda T50 has a very good combo of virtues, but it is an OP tank...IMHO, after the buff, 50 120 is better simply because you can find a position where you can unload a clip and take one shot (ok, two mostly) in return - but be confident you will not miss half, and bounce the other. if you chase marks, big rep kits help, too. I know, since i play O-Ho a lot now, and i see sometimes up to 3 ppl killed from a single hit (on is-3 turret side, all except the driver, for example). If he had big rep kit, he could fight another day, if not... rep kit accelerate your rep even when you spend it, but +5% instead of +10%.

    you still need to win.

    T54E1 - OP or not?

optics help with MOE a lot. Especially since the buffs to superheavies, there are plenty of tanks you can not dmg at all. Try to spot more (it counts towards MOE), EGLD may help you land a shot more every 2nd battle or so, but optics can add 500-800 additional spotting, especially since you do not run food. Also, camo is shit, so that skill is next to useless (unless full camo crew), while 100% repairs help to save the rep kit for module dmg (it gets plenty), instead of track repair. That crew is gonna get to T57 anyway, and it is a simple crew there: BIA, safe s, 6th, full rep, gunnery skills. Having only 36% overall repairs is useless, if you get tracked you will use the rep kit, and if you have used it already, it will not save your bacon. ORD helps nothing since new physics, and ground resist values are quite decent to start with, anyway.

It was 13 games 4 me. just drop down to tier 4-5, and you are always in top 3 (top 1-2 actually). T-28, T-34 or T67, sealclubbers weapon of choice. Except the mission where you had to do 2 k dmg, they are all better off in lower tiers. especially since those tanks can do ton of exp when shooting higher tiers, even if you finish 10th by dmg done. you can solocarry those tiers like a boss in B2 4 example. +battles are much shorter if you have to work on weekends.
  13. One more (mini) elimination thread! Main reasons for this thread are the new Swedish heavies - 3 tanks with same crew layout, but you can pick only one of them (tier 6 is so fun right now, it is a genuine keeper). Given enough time (months of crew training, especially regarding lack of good (and suitable) crew trainers, I would like to keep tiers 6&8-10 from swedes, but I am limited to one girl crew I got from holiday ops (soon to have 2, one for tier 6 and one for a heavy. Many other ppl will undoubtedly face the same choice - they can also sell the tier 6, but still have to limit themselves to 1-2 Swedish heavies (or they can go TD line, god forbid ). You can explain the reasons as to which one you can pick and why. Clan war/stronghold viability is also nice to have, but not crucial. Random battle performance (solo/platoon.reasons why) is very important. I understand that those tanks have to rely on gold to do damage in most situations, but I would not like to depend on it - that is regarding tier 9&10 due to tantalizing choice of 252 APCR/300 HEAT. reload of Emil 2 complicates correct ammo choice even more, but again, a whole tier lower, and shells are stronger...just like in Skoda`s case. Old rules apply, you increase the "best" choice by 1 and decrease the "worst" choice by 3. Each user is allowed to do this a maximum of once per day. You must explain your choices, even if very briefly. However, you can give your opinion of a tank you are neither upvoting or downvoting. When a choice hits 0, it is eliminated. I'll keep track of in what order they were eliminated in the OP, and the end result is some form of interactive community aggregate ranking! Pretty neat. Highlight your increase with GREEN and your decrease with RED. Since there is an elimination of only 3 tanks in total, tanks start with 60 points each (arbitrary from my side: but enough so enough ppl can give their opinions). Kranvagn: 60 Emil 2: 60 Emil 1: 60

    T25 Pilot Numbah 1!

Well, to be fair, i am fairly satisfied with my WZ-111 i got for free, especially after the buffs. I am more satisfied with the Patriot, but we often forgot the $ we had to pay to play OP tanks. So far this mission marathon is far easier than monster 1 million dmg (especially the Jap part, since i had O-I only) for WZ, and with Pilot, I can sell my Pershing with less regrets, and buy the M46 Patton.

    T25 Pilot Numbah 1!

Because you can train med crews... Oh wait, i trained my Pershing crew for 200 battles in Patriot first
  17. How does it print cash when you need to fire plenty of gold ammo (and 90 mm is one of the the worst ones in the game in cost/dmg done. Just the 57/75 mm are worse per dmg done). For example, when I drive a 112, i use AP and nuke the SP cupolas or MG weakspot, in return I just hear the APCR bouncing... Both tanks have to fire so much gold that you do not earn nearly as much as in premiums with good base pen, but 112 has an edge. 18.33 vs 14.35 silver per dmg done on gold ammo. Sure, you can play the SP like a peasant with AP, especially after the AP pen buff, but tanks so slow that can not run away from you will laugh at 190 pen. Tried playing the SP on my clanmate acc to grind him some credits while banned, but found it better to just play tier 6 normal meds. I would earn about 2/3 as much money in half the time. Out of pref mm tanks that earn more, WZ-111 is a beast, now it is accurate enough+medium mobility to be able to actually fire 50% of gold as before. Just play the medium side of the map. Jag 88 is still here the champ of ghetto AP silver print machine. P.S. 112 has a very useful HE shell, not to be underestimated, and cheap. it deals 150-200 dmg even on targets SP gold would never pen. And it can survive the slugfests like a champ, so nibbling the enemies with HE is fine (like a up-armored O-Ho with baby derp) since you would bounce half or more heat on them anyway.
  18. Yup...in SP you are not safe from any tank you are going to see, even frontally. I did HT 15.3 several times in 112, with a lot of surplus dmg - enough to do 15.4. also, SP feels the ARTY way more. slower+softer sides+more exposure to get the job done is a nasty combo.
  19. Felicius

    T25 Pilot Numbah 1!

I would argue that. Gold penetration is lacking compared to pershing, and 268 vs 243 is a whole 25 mm difference. That is a whole tier difference of tanks you can not pen any more - E-75/100 LFP unless unangled, IS-7, AMX Liberte frontally except hatch, various UFPs in the game... A hair more acc and better aim time is nice, along with a boost in soft stats, but this is just gonna make you land more shots on softer targets...and we all know that what counts most is killing heavies early on.
  20. Sry man, but the fact you have not played them shows. 112 is leagues better than SP. Better armor (by far!), alpha, and mobility is way, way better. Strongest points of 112 are as good or better as SP, but without these ridiculous weakspots. Can sidescrape. When you drive the SP, you get penned from every direction. You can wiggle all day...but you will get nailed while you aim...you can choose from hatches or MG weakspot...to simply LFP with gold. Löwe and Patriot are very good tanks, and frustrate the driver less than Defender. But Defender that hides LFP at any range beyond point blank can troll tier 10 tanks...as long as there is not enough acc/penetration combo to go through the mantlet. 440 alpha on that 122 is pure cancer, it has no right to it. Even with 390 it would be blatantly OP. But 440 is just big enough to 4-shot every single tier 8 on the safe side, except KV-5 (that can not pen you with gold in LFP, trololol)
  21. Felicius

Type 5 Heavy ACTUAL appreciation thread

Defender and Patriot are not overpriced at all. Especially the Patriot, it costed just 9,700 goold (€35.80). For instance, Löwe costs 12500, and IS-6 11800. IS-6 hardly earns any more money than a regular tank, with all that gold you fire, and Löwe can not clean up and shells are not that cheap as on Patriot. I see you are on the EU server, as me, so €35.80 will still be short to buy a tank from the best credit making category in this game - tier 8 heavy. And Patriot is the cream of the crop there - high base pen + low shell cost + speed make earnings plentiful, you can rack even the assist and cleanup dmg. For just a bit more than a tier 8 med. Remember a time when 8,8 cm Pak 43 Jagdtiger and FCM were on top? not any more. http://www.vbaddict.net/statistics.php?tier=0&tanktype=0&nation=0&premium=0&modeid=0&team=0&battles=1000&groupby=0&fieldname=creditsn&server= They are overpowered, and most of your statement stands. Like T110E5 and Grille reign of fire...enjoy it while it lasts...same as with Maus now.

    Elimination: Swedish heavies!

I know man, but Emil 2 faces so much easier competition - much less superheavies, and tier 9 has 60% weight of tier 10. Do I feel that Kranvagn can do 66% more dmg a whole tier higher, with the same potato gun? Nope. I kinda struggle to make 20% more, and try to spot (yup, srsly) for my team with 490 view range. If I spot a target beyond 200 m, not bothering to shoot it mostly. besides, Kran has a potato gun handling, too, just not so bad as Emil 2. Think about this: Emil 2 can penetrate T-10 easily, but IS-7 lolnope (unless idiot). E-75 and E-100 same deal, E5/M103...Maus/Mäuschen.....list is endless. Tier 10 heavies are simply too strong for 300 heat coupled with such a terrible gun. If it had E-50 M gun, than maybe... My thoughts exactly. A very good sum-up. Only that I preferred Leo with pew-pew for fun. I do not regret (much) going down the line, though - it netted me awesome personal reserves, and Kran is sill (situationally) useful in CW.
