T49 -- Land Arty in a Bite-Size Package

1,070 posts in this topic

I feel like I finally have something to post here. I got on here originally more than a year ago after struggling initially in the T49. I learned a lot from this thread, which helped me learn the T49's very unique playstyle and start doing well and having fun in it.

This game that I just had is the culmination of that:

It was quite a fun game. Thanks to everyone who has posted here for giving me pointers on how to play the T49. It's become one of those tanks that I go to play just for fun or when things aren't going my way.

Welcome, glad you can share the love. Nice stat line, I'm too sleepy to watch it right now. Cheers!

Thank you.

After watching the replay over, I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on how I played. Right after I played the battle, when I uploaded it and posted here, I was caught up in how good some of the shots were and the fact that it was my highest damage game in the T49. However, when I watched the replay a few hours later, I began to see a ton of mistakes. Among them are:

  1. I moved away from South too early I think, even though it was obvious that it was going to fall. I believe I could have gotten one more safe shot off before falling back.
  2. My play against the T-34-3 on the bridge was horrible. I could have used those hitpoints and crew members later in the battle.
  3. Sniping on the T95. I should have moved up further so that I actually hit him.
  4. My shot on the JPanther was totally up to luck.
  5. I should have stayed on the hill to take a first shot on the T-34-3 before moving down. As it is, I left it up to the M40/M43 to save me.
  6. I left too much up to luck on the T34 shot. I should have aimed at least a little longer.
  7. I should have slowed down and aimed in before coming out to shoot the AMX on cap.

Those are the biggest mistakes I saw, although I'm sure there are more.

So, I was wondering if you, and others in the thread, could look over the replay and tell me what else I could improve on. I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, what are your thoughts on the Sheridan? I'm considering buying it during the on-track, but I'm not sure. Your input would be great.

Thank you.

That first shot was beautiful. I personally like to use the bush that was right next to you on your right in front of the rock, just in case someone has good view range. I don't want to be lit until I fire.

1. I agree that you moved away from south too early. Falling back was a good idea, but leaving was not imo, especially because there was no obviously better option. You had free shots on the AMX M4 51 as he moved around, (at 13:26) and you could've seen on your map that the VK 45.02B was coming. If there was no armor coming, by all means leave, but when you have tanks coming, it's best to slow the enemies push, make them pay as much as possible without losing any hp yourself.

2. You definitely should not have poked on that T-34-3 until he had moved out of cover and you were loaded. You would've been unlit, and he would've been in the open. Once you knew he was aware of you, you definitely don't poke, especially on someone in cover. Like you said, you could've used those hitpoints later.

3. I personally would try to expose as little of my tank as possible on that ridge in case I do get lit, so I don't think you needed to move up more, I doubt it would've made much of a difference. On your second shot, just aim for the middle of the tank when you're that far away. I think you're 3rd shot on him after checking for the T-34-3 needed to be aimed longer though. I think you're trying to hit areas where it will do more damage, but when you're that far away, you just need to hit so aim middle.

4. I don't think you needed to rush the T95. He was low enough hp that you just needed to hit 2 shots and you took the hit from the Jpanther for it. If he had more hp, then yes go for the butt pen. But, if you're going to rush the T95, don't break your tracks and waste your rep kit for nothing! If the jpanther had tracked you and you missed him, you'd be dead! Also, moving straight forwards or backwards doesn't disrupt the aiming circle very much on the T49. You could've slowly backed up and let the aiming circle get a little smaller.

5. I think you should've used the bush next to the rock to wait for that T-34-3 instead of poking around in the open. If no one was coming around for awhile, then start poking around. Otherwise, you would've had a free shot on the T-34-3 as he came up.

6. If you're talking about aiming at the T34 after you poked up, I disagree simply because he might have snapped you and that'd be the game. You maybe could've gone to the right a bit so that the ground was a little more flat, but as for aiming in the T49 when you're going to snap shots, you aim before you poke, which is what you did. I think it was fine.

7. Good play going around and off the bridge for that AMX on cap. You could've aimed it in more before poking like you said, especially because you knew he was there and there was time. You don't want to give him a chance to turn, and have your butt pen turn into a side non-pen.

Good clean-up, even if it did bug me that you were going for cap points.

Overall, good game. Hope to see 3 stars on that barrel soon!

TheChang fully covered it, and is quite the derpmonster himself. Your self critique/awareness is pretty insightful also, which is a fast track to glory in WoT

As an aspiring Chodestar these kind of shots dont happen as often as I would like... I fully expected to miss and splash myself...

Looking at the stats I gain more hp/t by going turret first then engine, any reason not to?

It's not heresy if you can't help it.

You have no idea how jealous I am.

i've done it in a KV-2 but I've yet to manage it in the T49, ever.  literally never even been close.

Was my second. So about one every 1100 games.

Your replays are always enjoyable to watch, but T49 replays are particularly gratifying!

This will be a little different to the usual run of posts here. Serene Coast, game is already in the mop-up and our Ru 251 is capping for LT-8. Twatbag in the Numberwang-5A decides he doesn't like cappers, TKs him and instantly turns blue. Now, it's gone 5am here and I'm a couple of whiskies in and I decide I'm not having any of that, so I trundle up behind him and let him feel the full force of a 152mm high explosive enema.

I don't know why, but his wording is fucking slaying me.

Tell me why you didn't ram first UDES after chode shot? That's my favourite sport in T49.
