T95 - The Brick of Tier 9

63 posts in this topic

I'm 20k away from the E3, and I won't be touching it again once I sell it.

Being in something that can shove people off the central area on Mines, or roll down the 1 line on Ensk, or inch across the Malinovka field, is quite a unique experience. I won't miss it, though.

The recent armor nerf to its side is pretty massive. One of the best things about the T95 was that if they tried to shoot your side through your tracks and weren't a t9/10 TD, they'd usually bounce. It occasionally saved your life when you made a positioning mistake.

With that said, I really liked the tank. It was boring, no doubt, but it also felt very effective. Huge punch, very comfortable and reliable gun, the best armor-for-tier since the Pz J and old minimaus. Slow as shit, sure, but TDs can get away with being slow more than the other tanks can. Either you roll into a chokepoint and sit there or you roll to a sniping perch and sit there. Very good for winning. Definitely not even close to the worst tank in the game. Just to unlock this thing you have to play the T28, and the T95 shits all over the T28. It doesn't rake in the DPG/WN, but let's be honest here, that's because it can't farm up useless cleanup damage endgame. I really hate that that's an important trait.

I have the T95 unlocked and will be playing through to the E3 in the relatively near future. Do you have anything more to say about how to play it?

Let's say I head to a corridor with the heavies. Is it worthwhile trying to move in and out of hard cover between shots, or is the tank mostly too slow for that?

Where would I plan to go on Serene Coast? This is one of the maps that punished my T28 a lot. I usually resorted to sniping across the valley maze in the middle and hoping for targets.

Unfortunately its been a very long time since I've played my T95!

It's definitely still worth using cover between shots; the T95 is very slow, but it also has a fifteen second reload. You'll have time to get back into cover between shots. The T95's roof is very vulnerable to being overmatched by frustrated opponents, so you don't want to give them the time to try and pull it off.

Serene Coast is a rough map for slow tanks. Here's the options I'd recommend:

A4 if you have some meds/heaviums out west, but not enough that you think they'll stomp the flank. You can use it to either fire across the map like you've been doing, or to fire on opposing meds peeking the ridge. Its very arty safe, which is nice on arty heavy matches. The main problem is that there is no escaping if your 1/2 line breaks easily.

B7 and C8 are by far the most unbreakable camps for the T95, allowing it to win the respective flanks. I wouldn't recommend using these spots unless you KNOW that side is going to be crushed. Not being anywhere near the front line is a risky gamble. On the other hand, sometimes you will just know that you'd have no chance; sitting in these spots can just ruin an opposing push.

F9ish is pretty solid, it provides some nice cover. It's similar to A4; if you have heavies there but not enough to ensure the flank will be crushed, go there and try to support them. The main problem with this spot is that if the opposing team doesn't go 8/9 line, it will take ages before you can get your gun in the game. Make sure you don't commit to the flank until you know there's an opposing force.

Swapping over to the green side, things are a little more grim. This is just not the right spawn or map for the T95. Your two options seem to be those two boulders on the F/G rows. The F4 boulder is much safer and allows you to flex around a bit easier, but since the game is often decided on the 1/2 line it can be a better idea to take the risk of G2/3.

All these positions are just initial deployment. Feel free to just roll across the map once you start winning.

The grind turned out to be entirely tolerable, and even slightly fun. It helped that in my opinion this is the best looking vehicle in the game. Low profile steel is best steel.

The low speed guarantees that you will have some awful games no matter what you do, but the armor is funny and slinging 155mm of democracy at the opposing tanks is always enjoyable.

So.. I finally finished the T28.

I did surprisingly well in it with  just shy of 65% wr and 1800 dpg over 77 games(last two games were landslide losses and dropped me slightly). Considering the proto is one of my most hated and worst played tanks I did NOT expect this.

Which leaves me with.... what now? I played the T28 with one single simple rule:  w key is OP.  Every game I literally chose one known brawl zone and went straight there to a corner and shot until they were wrecked or I was dead and it worked surprisingly well at every tier.  Given that the T95 is just that much slower with even worse traverse, can this still work? T28 almost always got there late but still usually quick enough to make a difference.

Nearly 100% solo what have people done to make this thing work?

I think it is just me, if I am driving my JT and caught a brick in the open I would rather shoot its lower plate than its hatches. :foreveralone:

I haven't got my hands on it yet but I think the lower plate is some needs to take care of as well as the hatches.

with all this balance talk etc etc... How the hell do people do well in this tank?  2nd or 3rd Game I got a 4.5k damage game by hitting W until engaging enemy and derping.(not sniping). 1st class which means people do much better to get a mastery. What?

I never thought I would miss the "speed" of a T28. I don't think the "extra armor" is worth the loss of speed considering anyone can pretty much pen you in your tank tits from the front.  2 games so far where I never stop moving and I either miss all the action or all my pubbies suicide before I can get there. what's a solopubber to do? I hate the idea of camping base.. so boring and not contributing. I may just have to spend G to skip on the next sale. wow.

The fact the tank is hard-limited to what... 15kph means when all those well intentioned pubbers get behind you to try to help you get there faster down hill with 3 tanks pushing doesn't actually help. :(

Do some people put gas on this thing? Does it help at all? What do you replace? AFE seems too valuable since I've burned out more T95s in my LTs than I can count.

I think I've heard legend of masochists that are trying to 3 mark this thing now that I know, first hand.. I can almost feel your pain.

T95 is awesome, and very good at winning games, see this sort of ``mini-guide``:

http://forum.worldoftanks.eu/index.php?/topic/233128-all-hail-the-t95-all-or-nothing/

Most people play it wrogn, hence they hate it, you also need to accept that a relative large part of the games is lost, but the games where you can do something, you have massive influence

Er... no. If the tank is completely irrelevant for a large part of the games one plays because it's too fucking slow to do anything, 'awesome' is not a word for it.

It was written april 2013, so gameplay was first half 2013, thats 3 years ago:

  • limited arty tards
  • way less autoloader morons
  • many tier 9 tanks where trash
    • VK-B UFP could be penned with AP
    • IS-8 was barely better as an IS3 (in fact, when IS-8 was added, IS3 was as good as IS-8, a tier lower...)
    • M46 had much less dpm, PTA didnt get the 3 buffs yet, Lorraine was tier 9, Conq had weak turret and so on

As comparison: ...but ST-I should have been the undisputed god-king of the heavies....

When the whole meta resolves around: Camp in a bush and shoot people who dra trying, a tank with:

  • insane front armor
  • big gun
  • really good camo

is just a good tank, since its nowadays more about trying to not get fucked by arty, autoloaders and lemmingtrains, the T95 is now poor, same E3 is shit, Jp-E100 awefull etc

It hits 20kph quite often as long as you aren't on soft terrain

<3 Can't wait. For now it's super annoying since you get to action way too late so your team is either dead or won the flank and with your rather mediocre ROF you shoot 2 times in many battles.

They are gonna be way more useful, especially in platoon. They could be pushed (like ST-I) by any tank with plenty of powah. Skoda T-50 has 1k ponies (and just 40 tonnes/50 km/h max), one of the best pushers in tier. It can push ST-I right on to its top speed, even out of hard terrain(not soft, obviously, but on medium works well, too), or on slight inclines.

T95 is heavier and more underpowered than ST-I, but even after the top speed buff, it has just 20 km/h man.

Those are the prime examples of bricks that should get to chokepoints before your team rolls over.

After that I usually go other flank, or shoot ppl that reload after they shot ST-I (and bounce on pure Stalinum).

E 50 M/50 B works great, and platooning T95 with a tier X is not detrimental for your team anyway. Armor and gun is right in tier X standards, and you get more exp. There will be plenty of tier IX tanks, anyway, since the removal of battle tier 12.

Using it to cover his LFP is great, just find a suitable platoon mate.

T30 can get perfectly hulldown behind T95 and push it a bit, together they form mighty train with 2 750 alpha guns, 5,5k DPM, ultra stonk hull + turret and 3450 HP :doge2:

True...But Jagdtiger is a bit better to complement it, due to having 3900 HP+ more accurate gun/better APCR/reload gives you less map dependance, and ppl will not dare to rush, since 2x 750 can derp at mid ranges. You can also track ppl with Jag (and deal dmg at the same time) for derpy T95 to aim longer, and on stationary target.

But both are not suitable for pushing you to top speed (more like both will go way slower than the "faster" partner top speed), and you are very inflexible. Having a med or a fast heavy with plenty of ponies (with optics and food) means you have a spotter, and someone to push you, along with generalist in every way.

someone must uncap often, especially if you are top tier, and represent most of your team armor/firepower. Thher flank will inevitably collapse, it is just a matter of time (which you do not have, being so slow). Add some arty in the equation, and you have a very risky setup that relias on the other teammates way too much to work in randoms.

Pretty good tank post-patch

I'm cursed post patch. I get to the right places, do 3k dmg most games (so the actual avg is probably closer to 2.5k) but my teams melt around me. Though I have to agree the tank is good even if still not amazing at wining like all super slow tanks

What crewskills do you recommend to this thing? Just started grinding towards E3 and put fresh crew with 6th/camo in it, what for 2nd skills? Was planning to go for repairs but would gunhandling be better? Also what equipment should I run? Currently Rammer/vents but still wondering between optics, spall liner and GLD as a 3rd choice. Or even a toolbox? Few games I've had with this I've found myself spearheading assault up close and personal so not really gaining anything from Binos/Net. Oh, and it's already fully upgraded so weight isn't a problem.

Also think about the equipment

Spalliner+vent or net with sth else because I have found this things camo quite ridiculous
