(Would also love to hear what @RichardNixon has to say on the T62A, 140 and 430, if possible.)

The 430 has a very different statistical profile to the other two, closer to a heavy tank. Baseline winrate is higher, skill scaling much lower. The 140 reads as a fractionally better version of the 62A.

The armour profiles of the 140 and 430 are very similar, so the only physical explanation for the 430's baseline winrate advantage seems to be the extra 100hp. Given how recent hp buffs affected other tanks, this seems unlikely.

Matchmaking effects may be a better explanation: The 140 is an extremely popular tank and so it's relatively likely to be matched against other 140s, lowering its baseline winrate but increasing the scaling. If so, the truth would be that the 140 is physically the better tank of the three for almost any player.

Armor and melee fighting style!  Gun handling isn't great at range, but workable.  After playing the 62a and 140 extensively, the 430 is definitely different in that the 430 likes to fight at close range. Bouncy side armor is my favorite aspect of this tank when brawling other meds.  Twitching the A and D keys (duck dance I've heard it called) will elicit maximum frustration in your opponent who thought they would pen that side shot.

Definitely not a crap tank like I've heard from others in the past. I think too many people compare it to the 62a or 140 unfairly, not considering the DPM and armor advantage. The 430 is a knife fighter which is at home with early game aggression. It is a mistake to play it like a 140 or 62a IMO.

Prone to fuel tank related fires though. AFE or FF crew skill a must.

Spread penalties of .14/.14/.12 are not that bad. There's several other tier 10 mediums with worse numbers than that. And the 2.3 second aim time may be a little disappointing, but not game-breaking. Base spread, once modified by crew skills, ends up being no different in practice than any of its competitors. And the 430 does have some advantages that we take for granted. Its ammo rack and other key modules are relatively safe. Camouflage is excellent. Mobility is on par with the hover-meds. The silhouette is low and sleek. Schnitzel has no doubt already sung the praises of the cheeks and other troll armor zones.

These subtle qualities do add up. As good as the 140 and T-62a may be, they're fragile. Even low tier opponents can be a threat if you give them a chance to retaliate. The 430 on the other hand can afford to be direct, crude even.

This is honestly the only RU med I have ever truly liked. Or loved. I agree with the others who have said that it is more of a brawler than the others. I failed utterly with the 62 and 140 due to an overly aggressive playstyle which this tank happens to reward. I have since sold both the 62 and 140 and do not regret it. I will say that it is absolutely a matter of playstyle. If you like the other two you may want to avoid this one.

Sounds like a brilliant segway into a 'Schnitty guide to doing the 430 right!'

Mfw im on 800 HP and there is a full HP lorr on the hill on Tundra, and I rush him knowing that I can bounce his whole clip with my shoulder plates.

Try that in a T62 or 140 :P

well i learned from test server that facehugging in a 62A leads to lots of bounces (espically from TVP's) :3

I am curious abt the shoulder plate, aren't those auto-pen by 120mm+ ?:tomatard:

How to effectively sidescraping bigger guns then ?

You need a caliber more than 3x the armor thickness in order to overmatch, so 120mm guns will still ricochet on the shoulder plates. I definitely wish they were 10mm thicker tho :(

It sidescrapes just fine against bigger guns so long as you keep your peekaboos quick. In my comment above where I posted the 5300 damage blocked game that was all vs tanks that could overmatch my shoulder plates.

So let's say I love the 907 as the best ru med cus Dpm+armor profile+speed, would I like the 430, or for that matter the 416/430 II?

No. 907 has better armor and better gun handling. The DPM on the 430 is a gimmick anyway, save your credits and play the 907.

The 430 II was really fun when I played it. Basically just yolo into heavies and become immune because they can't depress to shoot you. Also really sick at sidescraping because 80mm side + rear-mounted turret. Pretty much the best armor on any med in the game because of the small profile.

No one shares my love for the 430 :cri:

Looking at 907's armor model it seems insanely unreliable. Lower third of side armor is overmatch by basically everything, middle third is overmatchable by 150's and higher. Big old cylinder in the center of the hull under the turret that is autopen (and I assume has ammo racks). That huge ass overmatch roof D:

Only good thing I see about the armor is the upper third of the side armor, the very weird upper plate, and the spaced armor by front wheels making it possible to bounce track shots. But I dont see anything that can actively be abused. Seems more like RNG armor.

Yeah, it does have a high ROF...I have burned 3 times in 2 battles in it. Of course, I also suck, so there's that.

I'm gonna research this thing soon, although I'm torn on whether to buy it or the 140. I feel that the superior armor, HP, camo and DPM of the 430 outweigh the 1 less degree of gun depression and the worse gun handling/acc/aimtime in comparison to the 140. Thoughts? Would especially like to read replies from people who have played both.

I have only played the 140 on test. My first T10 is the 430 and I regret it. The 430's gunhandling is cancer, the accuracy is bad for a T10 med, and lowers your effective DPM. The armour is good in theory and trolly in practice. The turret is excellent but the shoulder plates will drive both you and your enemy insane. The main problem with this tank is that the shittiness of the gun forces you to fight in close/mid range where hightier lasers will have no problems finding your weakspots. This is much clumsier than your normal med and it's really only effective as a bully or a close range flanker.

Food is obligatory. But then you'll burn once every few matches.

I suppose if the 9.17 changes are......unchanged. The 430 will become a pretty beastly heavium with an impenetrable turret and a very strng hull. It's shtick was supposed to be armour. The changes will probably differentiate its role from its Soviet hovermed brethren. As it is, however, the armour is just too inconsistent to leverage.
