5.5 changes have been anounced

They have been previewed in multiple reddit threads and on the WOWS website. The readers digest version. IJN DD's get multiple new torp options. The long range torps have had the speed lowered by 5 km, and detection increased a bit. Most turrets (all ships) have had the HP increased. The repair time has been decreased on rudder and engine repairs (without using repair consumable) significantly.

It's a pretty amazing list of changes.  The highlights for me:

  • Buff turret survivability for destroyers and many cruisers?
  • New maps
  • Weather
  • Ishizuchi gets a 25 second reload, down from 30.  This might finally give it that extra battlecruiser feel that gets me to play the ship again.
  • Game optimization and load time reduction.
  • Defensive Fire for high-tier CVs to cut down on the frequency of "kill or be killed" early-game CV sniping.
  • In-port quality of life improvements, such as carousel changes, improved armor and armament information.
  • Izumo no longer has garbage stock shells.

The IJN DD torpedo changes are the big controversy, but I think they were needed.  If it cuts down on the number of people playing max-range luck-chuck torpedo-ball, while also adding high-risk high-reward torpedoes for skilled players, then it's a success in my book.

There's mention of a new game mode called Bastion, which sounds like some sort of land-assault mode, but I haven't seen it included in all of the sources and haven't seen much detail.

Strangers (Shokaku cosplay guy from the showmatch) fucking hates the CV changes because he was all about the carrier snipe meta ("If you make a mistake I'm going to punish you"). I think it's going to super fuck over T6 and 7 carriers but it should shake the slightly boring cv meta up. Maybe the DF doesn't need to be 2 minutes long though? I love the Shima changes because it's making the 20km torp walling reddit crappers cry while actually introducing a really scary but really high-risk new option. 

Good changes overall I think, although one or two particular specialists are super salty.

It's good timing for me.  I just started CVs recently and am at the Independence.  I wasn't enthusiastic about hitting the high tiers and having to spend the first several minutes either trying to snipe or guard against a snipe.  I'm sure there's a skill-based argument to be made for that type of gameplay, but it seems both boring and limiting.

I think the DF needs to be 2 minutes in order to do the job.  With that amount of time, a carrier should have some protection while bringing back fighters or launching fresh ones (hell, you could even get cruiser reinforcement in that amount of time), rather than just having DF baited and then being killed 30 seconds later.

Some other changes were that the torp reload time was buffed on fubuki, kagero and Shimakaze as well. Biggest issue for me is that if I am using 8 or 12km torps, I want to be able to defend myself a bit. I think the 10 second base reload on the IJN DD guns should be dropped to 7-8 seconds at least. Also depending on damage, The risk may out way the rewards for the short range torps.

Client optimization for game loading(into matches, etc.) is the real gold here.

this is the first time i've heard of dynamic weather in a WG game, is this already implemented in WoT?

Since OBT started I havent loaded into a game of ships before it starts. My PC isnt exactly slow...

From the description it's not really dynamic weather, it's more like a new sub version of the map w/ less visibility game mechanics wise coupled w/ rain or snow effects. I look forward to it though, it'll make DD gameplay more interesting on wide open maps and in general I hope it pushes everyone close together for some more mid-close range brawls.

You may be HDD read/write speed limited then. But yeah client optimization would be good for the game in general.

i play on an SSD and usually load in 30-40 sec before match starts

My load times are weird. Some games I load in 30 second before the match starts and others I load in up to a minute after.

Mine weren't great until I got an SSD, now I load 30-40 sec before battle on my old laptop. 

Maybe WG will send everyone an SSD? :P

Its the same HDD that all of my other games are on, none of them load in slow...

Correcting myself here, Seems like there is dynamic weather but it's for one map, North.

All other games I've played never load as much content at a single point in the game. A problem/flaw of the game to be sure. But I think other game either doesn't have to load as much or can find ways to dynamically load content without affecting gameplay.
