Mäuschen appreciation thread

24 posts in this topic

So what do people think about this one?

Personally i am very surprised how accurate the gun is.

Was hitting liberte cupola 4/4 without problems, even pixel sniping a panther 2.

I like how it has more hitpoints than some tier 10 heavies at tier 9. Also its turret cupola is nowhere near as weak in practice as I thought it would be.

I appreciate the people driving the Mauschen because it is literally free damage :)

Maus-Chan*

I really want this tank purely for the meme value

The cupola is retarded. Too strong even for tier 8/9 gold. Only frontally at least, but man it does make no sense.

It would be fantastic without the cupola.

I have to say I'm not appreciating the stock engine and suspension. Getting handedly passed by T95s is painful.

How much does it improve with top engine and tracks? Are you able to more or less peg the 20 limit like in the vk 100?

Feels pretty similar to the vk100 to me. It gets better. The worst thing for me is getting penned in the cupola all the time, it is hard to wiggle enough in the Mauschen

I got the upgraded tracks and it definitely made a difference.  More on par with the VK 100 now.  The cupola does seem more problematic on this one than the VK.  It's smaller and has another 20 armor, but it doesn't seem to be enough to make up for it being a tier higher.

Also, at ~50K XP and with a 20 kph top speed, I'm pretty sure I'm skipping the engine upgrade.  Not sure if others have an opinion on this

It is definitely sluggish without the engine. Similar to the difference in the VK without the engine. While 50k xp is a big difference, I found playing it without the engine painful.

I felt a bit fleeced upgrading engine on VK100.  No speed increase and I couldn't really notice much difference otherwise.  Technically you reduce engine fire chance from 20% on a hit to 12%, but whatever soft stats are touched alone aren't worth the expense in XP, I think.  At 50k on the Mauschen I'm saving for the Maus instead.  I'll leave XP on after unlocking Maus and do the engine afterwards over time.

I really like the Mauschen, much more than the VK (even without the engine upgraded).  I have my best WR in any heavy in the German lines so far with Mauschen and do not feel out of place in tier X battles, where the VK was noticeably more tier dependant.  If this is an accurate set-up for the Maus gameplay, I'm really looking forward to Maus.

This is not an upgrade in the range of skipping the M58 gun on M103, but it surely is worth it. If you dislike Mäuschen, you will not like Maus anyway...and the grind of 50 k exp for an engine is worth it...way overpriced, should be more like for E 75 top engine (and every other tier 9), but worth it anyway.

You should have the important modules (top 128 mm) unlocked from other line, so...invest in engine. Maus is good, but Mäuschen is as strong, tier for tier, and even more of a sealclubber - same gun7almost the same armor, same speed. You get just the dpm and frontal turret increase.

Agreed Re: E75 engine - that was a deal maker.  I'd add Maus gets a significant side armour upgrade as well which makes more extreme angling to protect LFP possible as well as 900 more HP.  And it comes with slightly better mobility soft stats.  I do well in tier X with Mauschen, I'm stoked for Maus.

Tier for tier Maus armor is about the same. Tier X arty and TDs can make you feel quite soft in Maus sometimes...beware of the "soft" UFP with E4 top of the tree and APCR spam.

Also, there is the hitpoints - Mäuschen already has best in tier, so the same tier for tier.

I see what you mean, gotcha.  I suppose I was delighting at the possibilities of Maus since I feel good in Mauschen already in tier X, but then again, as you point out, one loses the tier VII match-ups with the same gun and arguably more effective armour.

Since 9.17.1 and with the upcoming MM changes limiting the number of higher tier vehicles in multi-tier games, it seems the age of the superheavy is upon us.

Limit of 3 arty seems the most important + they are less likely to all 3 be top tier now. 4 tier X arty seems the norm nowadays.

I cant say full opinion yet, but so far, i am not extremely impressed.

The good:

- Gun is overall good. 490 alpha kicks butt, and unlike V100, it actually hits things. This thing is pretty accurate, and gun handling is pretty good, too. Only DPM is bit lacking, but you cant have everything. Its essentially very similar to pre-buff Maus gun, which while kinda stinks at tier 10 works well at tier 9.

- It has shitton of health. Like really, 2,3k is amazing for tier 9 heavy. I was able to live after two JTs penned me for total 4 times. No other tier 9 heavy would be able to do that, expect maybe Type 4 if JTs lowrolled alot.

- Doesnt seem to have ammorack problems, which is good. Module damage overall seems to be not even close as bad which is good thing. Side armor is also improved.

The bad:

- The lower plate sucks ass. Okay, ofc LFP should be weakspot, but around 200 effective LFP on a tier 9 super-heavy that goes 20? Cmon, man. Some tier 8 mediums can pen it with AP shells, especially if its not angled.

- The mantle is lie, majority of mantle is 240 with nothing behind it so the turret for most part is 240 effective.

- Turret is pre-angled from sides like Type 4/5 heavies, so unlike Maus its hard to protect itself when you angle the turret. Turret face itself is barely stronger than VK 100's.

- Cupola becomes weaker when you angle the turret, which does really suck because its another limit for angling the turret.

- Ofc the fact its slow as shit. Obviously its like that and everyone knows it when your gonna play these, and it doesnt really bother me, but it needs to be mentioned.

The armor is super fucking amazing at +300m, but its filled with holes so it can be annoying at times. Maybe im just used to ultra-retarded armor scheme (outside from LFP) of VK 100, but dunno. 490 alpha also doesnt feel as great at tier 9 as 440 feels at tier 8. Id say that VK 100 is much better tier-for-tier.

Like i said though i need to play it more and i dont think this thing is really terrible. I mean, its not pre-buff Type 4 Heavy, which is always a good thing.

So, I wasn't quite sure if i should buy the engine or not... So I took one for the team, so to speak. Explicitly...

Tracks: 100% definitely yes. Get them. Gets the tank up to top speed much quicker.

Engine: It gets to top speed pretty quickly with just the tracks, so not much help there. It DOES seem to help with traverse and turret rotation though. I'm not sorry I bought the engine, but it's not so amazing an upgrade that I'd recommend against speed grinding for the impatient or someone going for the Maus for a clan need or something.

For those not in a hurry I'd say get the engine, because quicker angling and target shifting is always helpful.

I won't get the engine, Maus is probably getting nerfed in 9.20 anyways so I want to get to drive broken af Maus before they nerf it

I have skipped the engine, and liked the tank completely. It was painful to drive like the VK(coming from fast LT/MT player who tends to yolo alot), but last gun didnt need much gold ammo at all. Maus is worth skipping the engine, especially with talks of upcoming nerfs :MingLee:

The lower top speed than the type5 is annoying. I wish I had the type over my Maus because it's more retarded and stress free.

I have both, and since I am spamming Gold in my maus all the time, why not do the same in Type (for arguably better results).

Speed is also a good deal better in Type...But when you Play E-100 after those, tank feels like flying.

Type is fun, but nothing beats Mäuschen/Maus for pure, raw WR solo as it stands.

Yes, you ruin ppl day, and get better dpg...but Maus alone can chew so many opponents that it yields spectacular solo WR.

Bottom line: I Play type 5 10x more than maus.

I can't seem to push my Maus WR over 57% but I've been playing god trier so long I forgot how to play without stomping comets so my BC is only at 54% now and I can't seem to bring my CAX above 50% despite loving the tank.
