Being Pink is Bad

24 posts in this topic

I think I have a good understanding of the WOT Team Damage System.  I don't make a habit of shooting guys on my team, but when it is necessary I understand what to do and what NOT to do.

Not so much in WOWs.  If there a link/guide that lists all the know 'rules' for team damage in WOWs?

Here are a couple things I have learned:

1 - It sucks being pink more than being blue in WOT

2 - Don't Shoot HE at teammates (Fire ticks multiple hits just like WOT)

3 - Don't Citadel teammates (I fired a single gun and immediately turned pink)

4 - When you are pink stay FAR AWAY from teammates (I think I was pink for about 9 games, because every couple games someone would rub into my boat)

And then there is this :drunk:

Yes, it is a known fact that team damage is bad, and you should avoid it.

I play a fair amount of PVE while trying to grind the first module on a higher tier ship.  You can rest assured that the bots on YOUR team will ignore your torps while the enemies bots are almost prescient in avoiding your torps.  I have gone pink 90% of time plaing PVE and torping my own bots rushing to ram kill a red ship.

Simply put - don't play any torp based ships in PVE - only gun based ones.

It comes down to situational awareness mostly but even then you can still get absolute morons that you can't predict that you'll inadvertently damage; the first time I turned pink was in a low tier match where a friendly with 10 hp rammed me and died. The most recent time was in the tier 7 kiev I was sitting in smoke firing my guns and a friendly Scharnhorst pushed right up against me  unexpectedly and one shell from me hit him. Of course that set him on fire immediately and he burned for 11K but didn't die but it was considered excessive team damage which turned me pink.

TLDR; do what you can to anticipate bad plays on the part of your teammates and avoid them.

I gather from the OP second sentence that he is both prepared to and actually does fire at teammates deliberately.
Really, a TKing guide for WoWs, wtf.

Was that a deliberate shit post or were you looking for help to cure your madness?

The OP probably believes/believed that shooting pink ships is the same as shooting blue tanks in WoT.

Hint: it's not.

She sums it up pretty well in the O.P.

Also, be aware you can wipe your Pinko status in (dirty word alert) co-op in 5 or six battles so it's worth keeping one or two tier ones to end purgatory by going into purgatory... Things have changed a bit since they first introduced the colouring, not so many players getting upset nowadays...

If some asshat shoots me first ... I shoot back.  If he does it again rinse and repeat.

Getting caught by an errant torp is part of the game, but when you have ships behind you launching torps that's just stupidity and unacceptable.

Had a jerk in a Bayern shoot my Scharny a couple days ago for no reason at the start of the match. He said it was accidental, and I find that to be highly unlikely, so I shot him.  I was behind and island but he was out in the open and fired again doing a citadel to me this time .  The enemy Bismarck proceeded to spot him and double or triple citadeled his stupid ass ending him before I could torp him. so I lost 1/3 of my HP to some asshat who either was jelly of my Scharny or was just being a jerk, thus ruining my game

when it is necessary

When is teamdamage necessary? Your wording betrays your attitude. Simply avoid any teamdamage at all. In ships with torpedoes it may happen sometimes especially at lower tiers where the fronts are not so well defined and a torp may hit a teammate even after running for 40+ secs. Thats hard to calculate.

Other than that, justr don't do it, wether in WoWS or in WoT.

Wow, really? You never accidently hit your mousebutton ever? The other guy even commented on that telling you that it was an accident and still you go out of your way to kill him for a single hit...

You, sir, are an asshat.

There are plenty of asshats in this game that deserve to get team damage.

TanTanTankGod for example in WOT.  I haven't seen him for a long time.  But I will TK him EVERY chance I get.  If I can't kill him, I will pop him twice and move on with my game.

Capt_Karg was playing Ranked in WOWS.  He refused to fight and would just troll and run away the entire match.  I had him in 3 games, so it wasn't just a one time thing.

I know for a fact that reporting people in WOT doesn't do shit, I assume it is the same for WOWS.

Depending on how a match is going, ie we are going to win with a 3+ ship advantage, I will actually let a friendly torp hit me and not repair the flooding.  Every couple of seconds, there is another warning message about team damage, and after 5 of them I will hit my repair party and then heal the flooding ( obviously this is something I only do in a BB, or a Cruiser with heal ).  I do this because I want careless team mates to turn pink, so the team in the next match will have a warning that this guy is a window licker.

Once a pink DD did this to my Scharnhorst, and sank himself from the team damage HP penalty being applied to his own ship.  He got irate at me for sinking him ... LOL. He was yelling at me to hit my repair party - I kept saying, "Where is dis party at? How do I get into dis party? Why I hit dis party, he not hit me?"  Then he raged at me for being a noob, a wallet warrior, a stupid ass, it was heart warming.  He threatened to report me - I begged him to!

In the spirit of openness, I have turned pink 4 times since the system was installed, three of them came in PVE from hitting bots on my own team that were attempting the patented suicide ram.  Cue SolideoGloria calling me a shitter and to stop playing PVE!

I don't shoot back, ever, but I also think team damage is fine if you're dodging shells/torpedos. Or strafing your own planes.

He shot me twice, I was going to shoot him again but the Bismarck settled for me.  The first salvo he connected with was a full broadside of HE setting me on fire so I used my repair(the second he fired was AP which citadeled me).  Hitting someone with 1 or 2 turrets is one thing and could be accidental,  but the chances of a full salvo connecting 30 seconds after the match starts is pretty slim. Enemy fire caught me on fire soon thereafter, and I pretty much burned up because of his initial salvo.

There is never a good excuse to friendly fire anymore in WoWS. With the team damage system, once they do even a decent amount of damage to you it gets reflected back on themselves. This isn't WoT where they can damage you with 2-3 shots and basically get away with it, aside from maybe turning blue (yes they can get banned, but that's after 4 shots usually).

Not looking for excuses, but when some twat shoots me for no good reason I get a bit pissed off.

Now if I'm sharing smoke and we happen to jostle around some avoiding torps, and I get some friendly fire because we're a little too close, that's no big deal as it wasn't intentional.  I've done that myself.

I've had people in destroyers and cruisers way out of range from the enemy drop torps behind me for god knows what reason, while I'm up trying to scout or make a torp run myself which either killed me or disrupted my attack.  There's no excuse for that crap.

I'm actually kind of with Wulff here. I generally don't shoot back (don't recall ever doing it), but when people shoot team mates at the start of the game (which was the case Wulff described) it's a deliberate act or a case of utter stupidity and/or incompetence. It simply infuriates me, and I could see myself shooting back in anger, when I someone is taking a dump on the entire team like that. Taking away 1/3 of a team mates HP is just...

If you get hit by a teammate in the first 30 secs of the game it's either an accident* or stupidity. When you shoot him back it's not an accident.

*Lots of people will look at a nearby ship at the start of the game for a variety of reasons: Is he moving? Admiring the detail/cool camo etc. A slip of the finger and boom, a full broadside goes where he is looking.
