The 260 death at the end is what inspired this video. That happened Sunday....I was very very salty

I prefer getting stunned rather than dead, just like I prefer getting wasted by booze and not being KOed at a bar brawl.

To be fair to the new stun mechanic I've been watching Bluestealth stream for a couple of hours and he hasn't been fucked over by arty to the degree he would normally.

Was one-shot three times last couple days, all while on the move and out of sight. (Got to love being the only green on the team.) Change those to stuns and I'd likely have gotten away each time. I'm sure the mechanism is going to be unpleasant, but it's going to mean far fewer instant trips back to the garage.

I don't really get the hate about the stun effect, it's just a 30% reduction in effectiveness that doesn't even affect you unless you're being focused down by two arties.

Personally the massive splash and being able to hit enemies that are behind serious cover is what annoys me more.

Seems like a med kit is going to be a necessity now to 'un-stun' at least the driver. Cause I'm not liking the noticeable speed reduction on the mediums.

How can you keep cool?! On stream?

ConqGC, FV304 and Lefh got to be worst examples of arty brain dead gameplay...

And yet it's easier to consistent damage in arty. Wasn't this change supposed to emphasize the "support" aspect of arty? I find it's the same as always. Dumbass pubbies just ignore the 3 tracked and stunned tanks, die pointlessly, and you do more damage than your entire team.

Just gonna quote myself from a Reddit comment.

Quote

I was in a Super Pershing platoon with another player, engaged and IS-6 and several lower tier tanks. Guess who did all the damage? We recieved none from the IS-6 or other tanks, but my platoonmate was slowly ripped apart by the 3 enemy arties, 50-200hp at a time every 10 seconds (because they somehow managed to stagger their fire). Guess who killed the enemy tanks? Friendly arty. Tanks on both sides were stunned constantly so we could never hit eachother's weakspots. Everyone but me died within several minutes because arty was chipping away at both sides and debuffing, lol.

As an arty player, this consistency is enjoyable (it really is) but it's an absolute nightmare on the recieving end. Death by 1000 paper cuts.

I know WG made arty more of a support class, but it seems to be easier to farm damage on slow tanks in the open now with arty. I may be so bold as to say arty got all the love from WG while lights were overall nerfed in this patch. Like I stated in the anecdote, both sides of the engagement were too stunned to shoot at each other's weak spots and with neither side willing to back off into cover, we were all sitting ducks.

To me, it's good WG changed arty to make it less RNG reliant and cruel on vulnerable tanks, but with the way the general playerbase behaves, arty is anything but what it was intended for as a support class. There is no cooperation between artillery and tanks, so it more of a matter of coincidence if your opponent is stunned; in the case that he is, it's lucky if you are in a safe position to engage him since a lot of players will just wait in cover for the stun to wear off. In the end, the only yield is arty getting damage done. Nobody takes advantage of the stun other than other arty that focus-fire.

As for appreciating 9.18... I do like the matchmaker changes so far. Aside from the usual medium/heavy imbalance, I think the teams have been pretty well balanced so far.

Is it really just that hard for Devs to think of other things arty can do except point and click? Maybe flares? Maybe smoke rounds? No?

At the least this makes arty more in line with damage soaking tanks like Maus in their horrific model of a game. I wonder how spall liner will affect that tank. Could it actually be useful to soak up arty hits on Malinovka while your allies, I mean platoon-mates can work more effectively?

You can absolutely still get pens even with the reduced HE penetration on the right targets - I shotgunned a t49 for about 1k damage in a game earlier today, so you still have to be careful in a paper tank. Any game with multiple arty and a lightly armoured vehicle in the open is going to be in for a world of pain. In my Cent AX on tracks on Live Oaks against 3 arty was a death-trap. Perma-stunned plus constantly losing 300-500hp per hit because of barely any armour.

I think overall I like the change, and they're definitely an improvement if you like driving heavy tanks. It's overall a step in the right direction as well as arty can't really 'carry' a game as much anymore by landing big, crucial hits on priority targets, and needs time to rack up damage, which means your team can't just melt. But I can totally see that in some situations, and in some tanks, the changes are going to make everything seem even worse than before.

I'd take stun all day every day to what we had before.

Plus the number of arties will drop dramatically once the novelty wears off, most of the clicker brigade are already whining.

Oddly, I find myself only playing arty lately. It's just too fun annoying everyone... Accuracy doesn't matter anymore :P

I am seeing more arty than ever before, 2 to 3 every match, but I haven't played much so I hope you are right. What few I did play, arty was running around raining shells constantly and shotgunning low tier lights.

My few games makes me think arty is worse than ever, but as I mentioned, I hope you are right and my few games was an anomaly.

I wouldn't be surprised if more people play arty now that RNG is less annoying for it, even once people get a feel for the changes.

I could be wrong, but it seems heavy tanks suffer far less penalties on stun. I am sure due to the thickness of armor. Though not sure if there is a class bonus (hidden).

Not to mention, I THINK heavies are much more likely to carry spall-liners for the added stun protection.
