FV205, the death star replacement

The new T10 british TD has arrived on supertest, and to the surprise of nobody, it's an improved version of the Tortoise

Terrain resistance: 1.8/2/3 (I'm a bit skeptic since those are the exact same as the 183)

Camo: 24.2%/14.5%

Armor: I'm not actually sure if the front part is 235 or 178

Yeah, the shades of orange are unclear to me as well. The frontal armor profile will have a lot to say about how much I love it.

Looks... mediocre?. Garbage LFP, slow, superstructure probably pennable by T10/9 prem. Gun has DPM and handling but it's with that alpha it really needs it. And 320 APCR as prem doesn't look too good for a TD, albeit accurate gun with good handling counters that slightly.

On the other hand, good depression and traverse range, accurate gun, DPM I already mentioned, and I guess the armor will be workable it if's atleast a bit resistant to 330 pen.

Also, LFP and armor related, nobody is going to be scared to trade with this thing, most meds and lower alpha heavies are making basically equal trade, everything else makes positive trade. Might be a good or a bad thing, depending on situation I guess.

The armor either needs to be extremely effective or it needs an abnormally large hp pool like most of the other armored Brit td's

If I had to guess I would say the red zone around the gunmantlet in 305mm thick whereas the 2 "boobs" next to the gun are 235mm thick.

The Upper-Upper plate then should be 178mm, the Lower-Upper plate 152mm and finally the lower plate 114mm or 102mm (If I had to guess 114mm, it is paper either way)

Ehhh, the armor is pretty much the same as the Tier-9/10 Foch (~270-280mm EFA against AP, ~300-310 against HEAT) minus the tumurs but a bigger lfp which means the upper hull should be able to bounce most tier 10 non-TD standard rounds semireliably, though on flat ground gold won't have too much trouble penetrating the upper hull, though it should be pretty much impenetratable on a ridgeline due to the 10° of gundepression and the lack of any tumors on top of it except for the 305mm-zone around the mantlet and maybe the boobs.

The gun is great though, it keeps the ROF of the Turtoise, adds 3mm of shelldiameter (You can now actually penetrate the STRVs frontally now! Hurray for overmatch-mechanics) and adds 20 alpha giving it the highest DPM in the game. Also, you are now actually faster than a Maus when driving fowards.

We will see about it, on paper atleast it looks less shitty than half of the tier 10 TDs.

I'm excited, I get to keep the 183 and get a crazy dpm td with gun dep that can push. Now I don't feel the need to get the strv anymore with this things dpm.

I don't think the Armour is gonna be amazing like the e3, but it should be able to work hills like no other td. Looks kinda fun tbh

What's with the anemic gold pen, with crazy buffs of HTs i don't get this lowish 320.

Im also quite dissapointed with the HP pool. Its almost the same as the Tortoise at tier higher.

Then again, Tort has trash armor so it kinda needs it. This has much better overall armor layout, though that LFP means it now has to go hulldown.

Its more a British E3 with less armor, better mobility (not much), better depression and instead of a boomstick it has ridiculous DPM gun.

I started to regrind that line and by god, the AT15 is useless with the current MM. I have fond memories of the AT15A and thought the AT15 would be similar, but you get screwed so hard by not being top tier, it's ridiculous in nowadays MM-situation.

31mm rear armor? I'm okay with it. Everything else doesn't matter.

This guy knows the important stuff. HEATing the ATs and Tortoise is a pain. Now we get 910 pen butts.

Trash! I'm not even going to touch it with  a stick!

BTW is that gun the L11? The Chieftain gun? Would be awesome on a better chassis.

Edit: No it's not, should have checked out armored patrol first. But this is what I would imagine the L11 to be like.

Will grind so I can shoot people for 420 and run the MLG mod

WG is dumb. They don't realize the Tort is bad and this is worse t4t since the lfp is trash and the prem pen is not enough for a low alpha slow td with mediocre armor. There is a simple solution. Make this a t10 t95 with this gun but Jtiger pen. Less alpha will balance this well. If it overperforms on test give it some BS tumor. Done.

That's one of the reasons I don't play tanks much anymore. Some tanks, if they're bottom tier, no amount of skill can help you.

14HP/T at 32km/h is no joke for a "heavy" tank, even counting its high terrain resistance.

armor is Foch level, but without the foch shit hatch, so at 6 degrees depression the thing has 380 HEAT resistance, which basically is immune to all HTs.

This thing could use a bit more health tho, 2050 is a bit awkward as a frontline tank, and 0.3 acc seems overkill.

nerf acc to 0.33 and buff health to 2250 would be much more welcome.

IMO the benchmark for measuring T10 TDs is how well they function as heavies, and in that respect this Mocktoise is not half bad. If it gets camo it might be pretty dank.

BTW the tank is now the FV217 'Badger'. Funny how they change its name on a whim when the 215 183 was pulled for being unhistorical.

It doesn't look like a "bad" TD per se, compared to all the other trash that we call tier 10 TDs it certainly is above average.

The problem is that on flat ground the armor is unreliable due to gold spam and you can't really sidescrape/hide your lower plate effectivly on city maps despite the decent traverseangles because the gun is mounted so far to the front so you can't really play it as a heavy.

The tank only shines when it gets to go hulldown & use  some of its gundepression.

According to Supertest info from The Daily Bounce, it wasn't just renamed. An armor buff is being tested. Less speed :cri: but better terrain crossing, more alpha and same DPM, and better frontal armor. Not too shabby.

Quote

The upcoming British Tier X tank destroyer that will replace the FV215b (183) got its own name: FV217 Badger. The Badger will receive further improvements to its frontal armour and increased alpha damage. Meanwhile, the rate of fire will be reduced but the damage per minute will stay the same. Also, its top speed will be decreased, but overall dynamics will be improved, meaning its cross-terrain capability will get better and will be able to keep its speed.

Inb4 they are going to make it a T95-like assault gun with a convenient lower plate "weakspot" that can only be penetrated by gold.
