they have a golden opportunity to make drastic changes and build a lot of hype all at once

They tried that with Sandbox - didn't work well.

According to their developers they have data that proves the Type5 is not broken. Probably because it is not played that much due to how expensive it is to run full gold.

I'll let that sink.

To them it is balanced because people dont play it as much.

When people pointed out the fact that in competitive gameplay it was broken as fuck the same developer mentioned their focus was/is on people who do not play competitive. So to them CWs and ESL is not important.

We have a company which has a facade of competitive gameplay while in reality aims at the mass of casual weekend players. What kind of balance can come from this? A bad one. Why? Because WG takes into account for example the skill difference between a tomato playing a Type a unicum playing a medium. The tomato will be killed anyway but he will have games where he will bounce a lot and do tons of dmg. But because it cant be played much due to the cost many players cant afford to break the game togheter. This is why the Maus got nerfed because too many players played it so a broken tank played by too many breaks the game.

So what WG has done is to "balance" the game trough trickery. Great company ethics.

Aka 95% of the WoT population.

And thats the truth. If you want a game thats heavily focused on competitiveness then go and play LoL. WoT is for the russian daddy and almost everything that WG does is with the russian daddy in mind. And I do not in the slightest mean that as a derogatory term. There need to be games that cater to the older. more casual audience and still be somewhat competitive aka exciting but on the other hand designed in a way that everyone can have a good game now and then and will win close to half his games.

And in this WoTLabs is deluding themselves - the Type 5 is fine by this standards. Very good players will still get better results in other heavies (and likely also have more fun playing these or fast mediums) but sub par players can catch up somewhat in the Type 5.

The problem with the Sandbox was that its potential was squandered on irrelevant nonsense. For example, WG totally pussed out when their grand vision for arta was to basically keep letting it do all the same crap as before. They could have pitched changes that were completely different, the sort of changes that they'd normally be terrified to even consider, and still test them at zero risk. But sadly they missed that opportunity.

So once more they have the chance to take any measure necessary to set things right. The question isn't "can they do that?" but instead "will they have the balls to do it?". Then again, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they actually understand what's going on and what needs to be done. :serb:

WG has become a huge company over the last few years (which ment frantic growth) and even though they had some internal reorg last year and a shuffeling of jobs there are imho still two types of persons inside WG:

The devs that understand whats going on.

The salespeople that don't want any risk at all.

And it is pretty obvious who holds the reigns. It's for this reason why it is foolish to bash the devs when said devs don't have the power to actually change the game much (except for riskless bling like HD maps).

What about the devs that speak? TVP VTU can kill defender so defender is balanced.

HD maps is a welcome change though, but it was something that was necessary a while ago to bring in more players from NA for e.g. and probably could have kept both servers operating. At least its in time for an ANZ cluster push.

The premise of sandbox was sound but they way the changes that were made weren't the best. Hopefully another sandbox is in the works with a better weakspot and shell mechanic that isn't as stupid as changing shell penetration drop off and leaving HEAT alone.

Also having wg marketing not really play the game at all is hilarious.
