T95/FV4201 Chieftain reward tank

28 posts in this topic

i kinda suspected the Chieftain would become a CW/reward tank one way or another, although i dont know why they cant just use of one of the 2 already existing versions.

just compared this version two the other two, long story short:

has better alpha at 440, way better frontal and side turret armor. better side hull armor, way better engine/ power to weight, and VR.

but way worse gun depression, and worse reload, aim time and accuracy.

Well technically they did use one of the already existing versions:

https://tanks.gg/tank/t95chieftain/model?vm=visual

The hull/turret are the same for both tanks albeit with some small visual differences.

The only thing they changed were some random stats and maybe they fixed the retarded side armor of the T95 hull (some parts of the side can riccochet 183mm AP, some get overmatched by 100mm guns)

Isn't this a bit strong? Heat may not be amazing but besides that?

It gets APCR as premium (most likely).

Considering the hull armor is trash (Object 140 level of upper plate, shit unless you use your gundepression plus it can penetrate its own lower plate with HESH...) you are probably better off playing a WZ-11 or 277 unless it gets some insane softstats.

Yeah I agree, was in 2016 in terms of mindset for some crazy reason. The turret just seems heat proof with 350mm of armor and no big cupolas kinda tricked me. 2450+ dpm is good, vr is good. Though 140 level of UFP? Isn't it 114mm but with much better angling? Also ins't the hull stronger here than t95/chieftain? That one had 90mm hull no?

The armor values are most likely gonna be almost identical to the T95/Chiftain that has already been in the game files for years as it is the same tank, just reannounced for some stupid reason.

As for armor values you should always take them with a grain of salt with anything that is more complex than a Tiger-II-esque wedge.

The IS-7 for example is listed as having 150mm side armor even though 90% of it is covered in 100mm.

As for the T95-hull even though the old T95/Chiftain also has listed a 114mm frontal armor protection  only a very tiny flat armor zone in front of the drive sprockets is covered in 114mm , the UFP is for the most part covered in only 101/95mm armor sloped at 65° so even tier 8 heavies will have no problem shooting straight through it unless WG decides to do a Murazor and add random additional armor to it in which case anything can happen.

270 Standard Pen looks comfy, hull armor looks like a 277, ricochet trap sort of thing.

I think 270 is APCR going by what we have in tanks.gg..........as is the 310 pen round which isn't too bad.

My question is how WoT is going to justify the Chieftains with the Conqs being in such an overbuffed state.

What did WG smoke lately? Do they role a dice when it comes to alpha dmg? Why does this thing have 440? What is the reason for this?

Probably to make it stand out from the other 10 million 120mm guns at high tier, though 440 alpha doesn't seem excessivly high for a 120mm gun or rather 400 alpha is quite low amount of alpha damage considering where the high tier 105mms and the Russian high tier 122mms sit.

Alpha damage is an arbitrary number to begin with and It's not like alpha damage differences for the same calibre already exist in the game (128mm guns go from 440 to 560 damage, 122mm guns from 350 to 440, 76mm guns from 110 to 170...)

Seems like trash hull and unimpressive gun depression, that'd be the balancing factor looks like.

L11A5? That gun is like legendary among tank guns, is it not?

This one hasn't made it out the door yet.  I'm sure WG will find some way to dampen enthusiasm for it.

WG haven't been consistent with alpha damage per calibre for over a year now.

I'd presume the alpha is more of a nod to the L11A1, which was a massively powerful AT gun and pretty much as legendary as the L7.

From the 'in the files' T95/Chieftain they have given it more HP,  more engine power, more side armour (50.8 currently for all the other T95 hulls), worse traverse, more alpha, worse aim time and less DPM.

Also worse gun depression compared to both, not really sure how a Chieftain turret suddenly has -7, when it had -10 IRL

They have also made the cupola noticeably smaller compared to the two in game Chieftain models, both of those have an extra bit above with a machine gun that is not in that model.

Chieftain turret overall, for the current meta is not every good, it has Cent AX sort of problems, on the flat the plate above the gun is only about 240 - 260 effective and some other spots round the gun are about the same.  This also has less gun depression so will not be able to increase the angling much.

This is very far from like a Super Conq turret, or even a 60TP to be honest, and then you have a 114mm upper plate that doesn't bounce much on a tier 8 medium.

I'd expect that to have amazing soft stats for the gun, otherwise this thing IMO is going to be weaker than an M48 Patton.  Turret is probably worse, mobility is worse, hull is about the same, gun depression, DPM and gun handling are all worse.

I'd expect to see this thing buffed, at least gun depression, more DPM and better handling.

They are also being cryptic about what it's for, so not necessarily a nailed on CW tank IMO -

The 114mm plate is pretty much autobounce on an T95 variant with slight angling/gundep use.

This probably means that they'll tweak its parameters (as in: buff it) slightly before the campaign ends. I'm pretty sure that this tank will be a strong one, but if not, then also I really don't care really because it looks sexy so I will gather some points to get it and thats it.

By that they probably mean they are going to sell it on the Chinese server and make money out of it long before using it in some other way.

Wouldn't be surprised considering thats what became of the mk.6.

tbh that quote put a sour taste in my mouth when i saw it, it would be a shame to now have a third iteration of the tank (fourth if you count the tier 8 CW tank) only to never see/hear of it for several years. just make it a CW tank already ffs

I guess they probably are trying to create a tree somehow for the regular chieftain, should make them more money than it being a CW tank and they avoid the M60 situation, putting such a popular tank as a CW reward. That's why it takes so long. I remember many many years ago that it would be soooo OP to introduce it and it would be impossible. Now it'd be weak lol.

Slight gun handling buff, gun depression buff and a little more armour thickness on the upper plate and sides.  Nothing major there really though the gun depression at least makes sense for the turret.

Interesting it is being speculated there as the first 'for bonds' tank.
