Yes, it's permanent. I apologize for not doing it a long time ago.

If you guys have any other issues/requests feel free to PM me, that way I get an email notification and can respond to it far sooner as I don't browse the forum regularly anymore.

Apparently he is above the physical connection to Singapore (which is Sydney->Melb->Ald->Perth->Singapore) and is somehow able to bypass the physical connection with his knowledge of the internets and hosting to have a direct connection to Singapore which bypasses the laws of physics to have a round trip that is 1E8m/s faster than the speed of light.

@wasaabi_SEA did i get this right?

No but he can ping the WoT server from another server hosted in the same building. Never mind the PC that he actually plays on is still based somewhere in Aus...

It's a healthy reminder why simply owning a business doesn't imply much in the way of practical knowledge.

I can get down to ~80ms but I am not that keen on playing on a colocated server. Plus the security escort would probably be super mad.

25-30 ms is shit from the same building... Are they using sound waves or something?

heck i get <10ms just being in the same country, even <5ms sometimes, i would have thought under 1ms for being in the same building lol.

dont you have to go back  to the server host?

Hardware limitations mean that theres always gonna be a minimum amount of latency even for machines in the same building. Not a networking guy by any means, but Id imagine 5ms is getting to the point where the modems themselves are responsible for a significant amount of the latency.

Miss you Joc, please take me back.

I think once you start talking about sub 10ms response times you're past the point where it will make much practical difference to us slow humans :)

So that means you should have super uni stats. get good scrub.

In his defence he was quoting round trip times

Quote

after an hour long conversation with a friend who works in your hosting company sorting out the apparent said hops that cause lag  my speeds increase only  when connecting to your server ' same building pinging 11 other IP addresses 25 to 30 ms round trip

He also has the super speshul equipments that allows him to supposedly bypass network infrastructure that retail/wholesale connections are forced to use.

Quote

I am not running a standard home connection  or equipment that you buy through a local ISP nor do I rely on a whole seller to connect to the web ' because i host file servers for clients from all over the globe my main system is hosted directly Via a Global host not local it  was the only way I could achieve 10 GB speeds'  thus saying this i do not have the normal amount of residential hops you would refer too on whole sale connections

Round trip times in the same building should not exceed 10ms.

And like I said earlier, he is above the physical limitations of the data transfer cables which provide service for literally all the internet traffic in the country. He is able to have a super secret billion dollar cable direct from his office to the SG exchange because he does not rely on wholesalers but instead via a global host.

This cable also contains some super secret technology that exceeds the speed of light to allow for a round trip of 30ms while if it were to actually obey the speed of light, it should take approximately 43.2ms (iirc from when i did a quick calculation last night) without hardware and repeaters.

Amusingly it actually works the other way. Fibre optics cables actually need a relatively high optical index to function, which significantly slows the speed of the signal.

The bloke seems like a real winner though. For someone who claims to be a IT/Network professional, theres an incredibly poor understanding of how the internet works. The bits I could understand anyway. Nothing quite like a bloke who barely understands an issue and cant adequately communicate with the people trying to help him. Extra props for bringing up bandwidth while talking about signal delay...

Its easier to explain than to continue on about how light bounces around inside the fibre optic cable and how light travels slower in a medium.

edit: I don't think he would understand those words anyway. "Refractive index? what?"

Would probably have told you that knowing how fibre optics work doesnt mean you know anything about cables XD

Oh well, I guess we can only guess what value @HoPe would have added.  Shame...

At least i understand the basic laws of physics.

One thing I can't be bothered learning about is how the internet actually works in Aus. afaik there are 4 telcos/ISPs which own the backhaul connecting the capital cities. 3 now i think since TPG bought out internode.
Something along those lines.

30% WR for the night, I cannot even describe the hatred I have for the player base of this game. Especially the amount of T10 players with sub 600/47% is fucking mind boggling. Even had a fucking TVP driver shoot 26 rounds hitting 6 penning 3.....wtf

Lost count of the amount of battles lost because the top tier go complete retard.

This sums up the entire night

From a private message his situation is closer to what JOC is saying - his colo  is not in NZ and much closer to Singapore and I am surmising he is pinging from a console in that location.  He has apologised and blames stress (but forgot to mention alcohol).

The stress of WoT just made him forget the difference between his remote colo server(s) and his local home workstation running the WoT client. Maybe he needs to try some WoT research - much less stressful. Siggy could do with another partner in crime.

Someone has caught a nasty case of hypocrisy on his travels.

That will happen in the land of Brexit.
