Gold Prices Converted to Dollar Prices

25 posts in this topic

Tried to post this on the official forum but the forum editor was not cooperating. Figured I would post it here for better exposure.

Here are some common gold prices converted to dollar prices:

1 year premium (best deal) (via gift shop): $95.29

25k gold (best deal): $99.95

$99.95 / 25,000 gold = .003998$ / gold

All prices based on 25k gold package rate.

Buying prem tanks via in-game store (better deal than gift shop):

Lowe: 12,500 gold * .003998 $/gold = $49.98

T34: 12,000 gold * .003998 $/gold = $47.98

IS-6: 11,800 gold * .003998 $/gold = $47.18

E-25: 6,700 gold * .003998 $/gold = $26.79

Panther/M10: 5,750 gold * .003998 $/gold = $22.99

TOGII: 3,500 gold * .003998 $/gold = $13.99

SU-100Y: 3,250 gold * .003998 $/gold = $12.99

Demount 2 complex equipment on 6 tanks:

12 * 10 gold = 120 gold * .003998 $/gold = $0.48

100 Gold Consumables (assume large repair kit will last ~100 battles)

100 * 50 gold = 5,000 gold * .003998 $/gold = $19.99 (half price ~$10)

1,000 Gold Consumables (assume large repair kit will last ~1000 battles)

1,000 * 50 gold = 50,000 gold * .003998 $/gold = $199.90 ( o_o) (half price ~$100)

1,000 Gold rounds for IS-7, IS-3 or Maus (assume 10shells/game they will last 100 battles)

1,000 * 12 gold = 12,000 gold * .003998 $/gold = $47.98 (half price ~$24)

10,000 Gold rounds for IS-7, IS-3 or Maus (assume 10shells/game they will last 1,000 battles)

10,000 * 12 gold = 120,000 gold * .003998 $/gold = $479.76 ( o_o) (half price ~$240)

3 seasons perm camo skins for 3 separate tier X tanks:

750 gold * 3 = 2,250 gold * .003998 $/gold = $9.00 (half price ~$4.50)

Drop skills and perks on 3 tanks with 6 man crews without losing EXP:

18 * 200 gold = 3,600 gold * .003998 $/gold = $14.39 (~$7 half price)

Train / retrain crews on 3 tanks with 6 man crews to 100%:

18 * 200 gold = 3,600 gold * .003998 $/gold =$14.39 (~$7 half price)

Convert 100k XP to Free XP:

100,000/25 = 4,000 gold * .003998 $/gold = $15.99

Convert 500k XP to Free XP:

500,000/25 = 20,000 gold * .003998 $/gold = $79.96

Convert gold to 1,000,000 credits:

1,000,000/400 = 2,500 gold * .003998 $/gold = $10.00 ($5 half price)

Convert gold to 10,000,000 credits:

10,000,000/400 = 25,000 gold * .003998 $/gold = $99.95 (~$50 half price)

Change your name:

2,500 gold * .003998 $/gold = $10.00

If we are being honest with ourselves any new account should really spend $200 straight off to get the best deal. $100 for the 1 year of premium and $100 for 25k gold. He should use about half of that gold to buy a money maker premium tank. And then he will have $50 worth of gold left over to spend on crew training and however else he sees fit. I personally recommend this for anyone I am introducing to the game. It is really the cheapest option to avoid incredibly painful and stat destroying grind through the low tiers with stock tanks. Considering you can get BF4 for $25 this coming black friday, $200 is a comparably large investment for a world of tanks account.

To summarize:

Good uses of gold:

- crew training, retraining and drop skills/perks (at half price)

- demount equipment

- good money making premium tank

- perm camo skins (at half price)

- premium account for 1 year

Okay uses of gold:

- convert xp for researching select modules to avoid playing stock tanks

Bad / What are you doing uses of gold:

- prem ammo

- prem consumables

- convert to credits

Yes, I assume everyone knows the purely aesthetic things are bad uses of gold.

I also forgot to clarify when I say "best deal" I mean highest gold/$ ratio.

For example:

1 year premium bought via in-game with gold = 24,000 gold

@ 25,000 gold/$99.95 = 250.12506 gold/$

1 year premium bought via website giftshop = $95.29

24,000 gold/$95.29 = 251.86273 gold/$

During big events you can get the year premium for about 20% off (roughly 2 months free).  Worth waiting for - usually around memorial day/4th of july and xmas/new year.

Thanks, didn't know about that.

Might be worth mentioning Slots and Barracks slots (both of which can be important if you run lots of tanks and/or crews) especially when they're on sale; for example, I tend to buy 1-2 slots anytime slots are 150 gold if I have the gold to spare.

Using the 25k gold package ratio you can calculate the $ amount for anything easily. Just find the gold price and multiply by .003998. That number won't change until they change the price of the best value gold package, which won't be happening any time soon.

Buy 3 garage slots or enlarge barracks x3:

3 * 300 gold = 900 gold * .003998 $/gold = $3.60 ($1.80 half price)

Buy 6 garage slots or enlarge barracks x6:

6 * 300 gold = 1800 gold * .003998 $/gold = $7.20 ($3.60 half price)

I suppose those would be considered good value too. I personally have unlimited free ones from all the promotions where they gave them away. (like the t-127 exploit :tank2: )

I will say, declaring things like name changes as "bad" uses of gold is missing the point a bit.  Fluff like crew names, inscriptions or the like are just that... fluff.  One person may feel that it's worth a buck or two to have Don Cheadle in their tank crew... it's just something they consider fun.  Fluff is one of those "value is in the eye of the beholder" things.

Yes. I hope people don't take it the wrong way. I am measuring bad/good based on performance enhancing value/$. Aesthetic additions are only bad in that they offer no performance benefit.

EDIT: Another thing I forgot to mention in the OP: Buying prem ammo and consumables with credits offers the same value as buying them with gold. If you convert your gold to credits first and then buy prem ammo and consumables you are getting the same amount as you would have if you just bought them with gold directly. So it is usually preferable to buy them with credits, since gold is more valuable. Credits can be earned easily for free. Gold cannot. And gold can be used for lots of things credits can't. That said, prem consumables do eat up credits very fast. Here are some examples:

100 Gold Consumables (assume large repair kit will last ~100 battles)

100 * 20,000 credits = 2,000,000 credits (half price 1,000,000 credits)

1,000 Gold Consumables (assume large repair kit will last ~1000 battles)

1,000 * 20,000 credits = 20,000,000 credits (half price 10,000,000 credits)

1,000 Gold rounds for IS-7, IS-3 or Maus (assume 10shells/game they will last 100 battles)

1,000 * 4,800 credits = 4,800,000 credits (half price 2,400,000 credits)

10,000 Gold rounds for IS-7, IS-3 or Maus (assume 10shells/game they will last 1,000 battles)

10,000 * 4,800 credits = 48,000,000 credits (half price 24,000,000 credits)

Don't tell me having Chuck Norris in my tank (filling all roles, of course) doesn't have a performance benefit!

~$5 to retrain an entire crew always seemed excessive... too bad they didn't have a deal: 1 crew at 200g or all crew at 100g per.

Very true. All value is subjective.

That's just OP. What do all the other Chucks do while the first one is doing everything perfectly?

Chuck Norris never needs to justify why he does something.

You should also consider people buying low amounts.  If someone buys the seven dollar package, each piece is .004633.  Rounding that up to a half cent makes the calculations much easier.  So you can divide the amount of gold in half, and that's about how many dollars it costs in real money.  Retraining with gold costs about a buck, a garage slot is about a buck and a half, and demounting equipment costs a nickel (which makes it the best value in the game).

I had to do it... just once.

Had some gold sitting around and discovered that I could name my T49 Commander to Guy Caballero. Worth every penny.

You can change client crew name files for FREE :D

I believe the new WG prepaid card is the same as the rate in the OP, which can be useful, as there are only $25 (note you cannot buy anything besides gold from the gift shop with the prepaid card)

http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/96589-modifying-crew-name/

You can also change the garage to premium garage and change your skins to camo skins or whatever you want just by modifying the client files. Only the camo purchased from WG will actually give you the 5% bonus though, because they keep the record of who has it server side.

Make the math simpler by just assuming 25,000 gold costs $100 and 250 gold is $1.

You can do that. Your prices will just be off by a few cents for the normal priced stuff. For big purchases like 10k gold rounds your prices will be off by about 25¢.

Nice work OP, it's good to have a quick reality check on what things actually cost. I think this is overkill though:

Anyone starting out should play the game first to at least a few tier Vs before shelling out real money. And totally wait for the premium time sales (SEA had 15% off last week for instance).

Oh and paying about 40 cents to name my T7 Combat Car "King Kong" was totally worth it.
