If the guy who wrote the book on wn8 (literally) is saying that there's no mathematical or statistical viability to a wn8 score over 2600 then I would personally appreciate it if the community would collectively pull their head out of their ass and stop begging for some completely and utterly pointless "hyper unicum" color scheme.

  6. Regarding the "Very Bad" color. For the sake of appearance on sigs, I'd really prefer that it stays Dark Red. However on the WoTLabs XVM config, it will be using the pink color that's already in there for better visibility. Thoughts?

  7. Alright folks, this is what we have so far: If you don't want to read the entire thread, this is how this scale came to be: - First, we set average as yellow, in order to define the other colors and categories around it. - MaxL first defined the values that would populate the scale, creating a formula where the steps were defined relative to the expected WN8 for a 1:1 performance (actual stats equal to expected stats). - I rounded the values for best human readability. - For Win Rate, I used the WoTLabs DB to gather a sample of the players from around each breakpoint. 10. Reposting this gem from the EU forums; http://forum.worldoftanks.eu/index.php?/topic/433614-093-tessumod-wotteamspeak-integration-mod/ Basically a mod that connects to your TS client, and uses the ingame VoIP visuals to indicate if a player is talking. A person either need identical TS/WoT names or use the mod itself. Pretty nice for CW/TC/SH/TB etc etc etc, when you're not really familiar with the voices of everyone.

  12. Completely agree with the last 3 posts, this is why a 3rd color of purple would be perfect. Such as: This way, overall stats will be easier to differentiate between unicum and super unicum, yet not impossible to attain without rerolling (hyper unicum overall would be very rare except for top 20 players on the server, and non-terrible rerolls), and then for recent stats it would be an interesting challenge and decent metric for personal improvement.

  13. The video is definitely funny. I like the new awards, though, just like I like the idea behind a lot of the events they've come up with. In some way, I think both of these things are in response to results of careful thought put in by luminaries here. Some of you might remember that there was some work done on the official forums by players that are now WoT Labs fixtures trying to determine the correlation between certain measurable activities and victories. Damage per game. Kills per game. Survival rate. Capture points per game. Defense points per game. Spots per game. Back then, people h

  14. The flaw in your assumption is that the average player is a poor player. What does that actually mean? You are making up a subjective skill-based scale which exists only in the mind of the person who invents it. The fact of the matter is that there are millions of accounts tracked. "Average" is average for a reason - this is the average skill level a player with X battles (I believe 1000 or 2500 for the current system) has attained. People with more battles tend to be slightly better, but this is compensated by newer players. The average WN8 of all players within a set criterion represents (so

  15. Some of the responses in this thread are exemplary of the "mad because bad" tripe that fills the in-game chat. Honestly, if you think there's anything other than you holding down your winrate and ancillary stats, GTFO. Our charter is right there on the top banner: "denying stats deniers." You will simply not get a foothold espousing garbage about rigged matchmaking and unica being given anything other than their ability to learn and abuse the game mechanics. FWIW, I don't have a problem with using an ELO or TrueSkill system for tiered matchmaking. Group players into bands based on their me

  16. I don't like the idea of another top end category. Uni -> Superuni is the last category swap that most (read: almost all) people are capable of doing through their skill alone. Within a few months the new category would be 9/10 superuni-level players playing the right tanks so they get the "best" color. They'd have almost no way of otherwise getting it - you can't just "learn" to play at 4500 WN. You're just setting a goal that has no purpose - even without an incentive, most of the players who currently play at that level are spamming WN farmers like nobody's business. How pointless do

  20. MaxL's scale looks really good and fits well with what I was looking for. Going with pauli's suggestion of getting some more rounded numbers: Very Bad: < 300 = Brown or White Bad: 300-449 = Red Below Average: 450-649 = Orange Average: 650-899 = Yellow Above Average: 900-1249 = Light Green Good: 1250-1699 = Dark Green Great: 1700-2349 = Blue Unicum: 2350-3199 = Light Purple Super Unicum: 3200+ = Dark Purple What do you guys think?

XVM still isn't working for me, but the importance of evaluating the matchup was so great for this match specifically, that I went and spend a whole lot of time manually entering in every enemy on the enemy team into Wotlabs to search up their stats, just to make this possible. Yes, since XVM only shows overall stats, it's completely possible they improved recently, but really, unless there's a massive spike in performance, it hardly matters with respect to the big picture. #1 As the match is loading and the countdown timer ticking away, I look at the matchup and see many competent players o

  25. Have to agree with this. Even if the average winrate and win8 of the entire player base is considered "average", it makes no sense to have it be red. When we see a sea of red - we think terrible team, when we see a sea of yellows - we think okay, should be a decent game, when we see anything above a sea of greens - we think it's time to put on the serious pants. Neverwish wants to create a color scale that is intuitive to the human eye with something that all players can easily relate to based on the social labeling of what is considered a good, bad, or average player. It isn't a probl

  29. While I think making super unicum harder would be better for recent wn8, I think 3200 is a bit too high for overall... That would limit the number of super uni's from 0.01% to like 0.001%.. I think 3000 might be more conceivable, or 2900 as it was. Super unicum should be extremely difficult to achieve, but not next to impossible without rerolling. There are probably less than 30 players on the server over 3,200.. I think if anything make 3,200 a hyper unicum level above super unicum (3000 or 2900). But that's just my opinion.

  31. I figured the winrate bounds would be set by the regression line of WR/WN8 for levels up to blue, and the standard/old 60/67 for the purple grades. The values would not change much from what we have now, I suspect something like: <44.5% Brown/White 44.5-46.49% Red 46.5-47.49% Orange 47.5-48.49% Yellow 48.5-50.49% Light Green 50.5-53.99% Dark Green 54.00-59.49% Blue 59.50-66.99% Light Purple 67%+ Dark Purple Basic Points: Average is supposedly 47.5%-48.5%, makes sense if the graph is mean-shifted from 49% Blue goes from 56-61 to 54-59 (rounding down) Purple line is wher

  32. Its like you didn't absorb the fact that WN8 was created with the idea in mind that those particular folks (at least up to 46%) really don't matter, because their "contributions" don't move their win-rates in the positive direction. The idea that there should be as many cats below as above is thus nonsense, as well as any attempt to quantify which player is worse the 40%er or the 44%er. It might not satisfy you personally, but it was intentional neglected by the creators of WN8. Now we can certainly debate that main assumption, but its like every time this color crap comes up folks just tend t

  34. Whatever system is used, there needs to be as much granulation at the low end as the high end. We can't only consider how well the system works for the elite players. Currently, the system makes us look like stat padding elitists. We change the scale to make red "average" and have most of the scale only applicable to the top 10% of the population. It may be true that compression makes in-game skill difficult to measure when the enemy is a fair distance (in categories) away from you. However, even among the bottom 40% of players there is a considerable difference in effectiveness. The scale nee

  35. I'll put in my reasoning as to why I believe 7-8 steps are better. This is tied to the reason why WN8 exists in the first place. I think that if we can't figure out why WN8 exists than we really have no business trying to make a scale for it. Why does WN8 exist? Personal measurement or judging other players? Or both? Personal measurement favors more steps. It's better and easier to see whether you've improved, and gives you more incentive to get better. Judging other players favors neither. Some people already mentally lump categories together. Greens are greens, reds are reds, regardles

Going from bad straight to average seems a little jumpy. 41. Yes, but a vocal portion of high skilled players seem to think the game should revolve only around them, so anything catering to reds is automagically 'useless' and should be incessantly mocked by them (see the endless stream of whine threads complaining about these easy ribbons and threads mocking them like this one) conveniently forgetting that without reds and greens to farm, they wouldn't have their oh-so-important purple stats. That said, the video was actually funny. +1 for that at least. Now, bring on the downvotes.
