    Report: Life w/out Tanks

Been about 2 months since I've last played tanks, 3 since I've last played my last 200 game burst. Decided to keep track of physical changes that followed out of curiosity: 1. Erection is longer, thicker, and harder by .4 inches, .2 inches, and ramrod steel-like respectively (being outside more?) 2. Grew a half inch, was 6'1 before, am now 6'1.5 (sleeping more?) 3. Skin complexion fairer and clearer (not repeatedly dirtying my hands on keyboard and unconsciously touching face w/them?) 4. Capable of bench-pressing well over body-weight now, roughly 185-190~ lb (sleeping more + a bit more free time?) 5. Dead-lifts went up by 25lbs to low 300s (sleeping more + a bit more free time?) - resulting in firmer ass and tighter body 6. Slimmer face, enough that hollows are starting to show (more workout + sleep + going out?) 7. Shits are pleasant and ejaculations are thick tl;dr - quit tanks and online games in general, time's a commodity wasted on tanks - unless you're #1 (lel oh lel) disclaimer - this was probably easier 4 me cuz I'm #1 (lel oh lel) and have already extracted whatever value this game had to offer

First off, I'm going to invoke the usual holywater here and say: "I know.". I know not everyone pads, I know not everyone cares if they pad, I know that there's nothing against padding, and I know padding doesn't mean you aren't a great player. This isn't a topic to call people out, it's just to spark a little discussion on the topic. So, padding is a thing. A big thing. Something we don't really talk about, at least not as much as we could. Here's a few little random, not-very-well-formulated observations about wotlabs, gotten from looking up tank composition lists from various, mostly-randomly-selected purples' recently played (last 500-1000) games: The ratio of padded unicums (purple or dark purple) to nonpadded unicums is about 1 to 1. Half pad hard. Half don't. A small few are somewhere inbetween and cancel out any padding they do with some horrible stuff like arty. The ratio of padded superunicums to nonpadded superunicums is much worse. Around two-thirds pad, and those that don't are usually in the lower WN8s of the superunicum tier.Almost every single "top" player, the purple of the purple, pad to hell and back. They are almost universally the most padded players in the game, and play practically 0 tanks that would be considered "bad" for results. These are just tank comp (WN8) observations. If you could look up platoon (WR) data, these numbers would probably start to look horrific. So, I'm starting to wonder if this padding culture on wotlabs (maybe even the game in general?) is beginning to become too much. I think many opinions on how good tanks are, how to perform well, etc. are becoming more and more influenced by padding as it becomes more of a popular sport. This is a problem to me because people rely on others' opinion quite often around here, and once those start to drift from reality, theirs does too. On a forum where your stats actually matter, how you get those stats might be relevant. So, what do you think? Is this a problem? Does this even matter? Perhaps this isn't a growing problem?

There's no way to differentiate. In this case, where we're more looking at how these players look from the outside, it doesn't really matter. Whether you're padding for the stats or padding inadvertently because those tanks are more fun, the result is the same here. You have such and such stats, your opinion on tanks have such and such amount of weight, and that weight is almost certainly going to be inflated. There may be a difference morally, but that's about all. I couldn't decide whether to call this topic "padding" or "hand me a hardhat, please" while typing it up.

My $.01 I play this game for the competitive aspect and winning. There are only so many rpg's i can play before i get bored. Winning games is fun. Playing tanks that are better at winning games is also fun. The only T10's I own are ones that are relavent to competitive play, shy? because I dont want to spend hours grinding out some slow af TD that cant drive around the map (also why my e100 is getting less attention). The tanks that are best at winning are always considered padding tanks for that reason. I dont care if people have fun playing their jgpze100's or 4005's or w/e, but we all know that they will lose more games than someone of equal skill playing meta tanks simply because the tank they are playing is terrible for consistently winning games. I like how carbon said it. "If I cant do the same as they can if I tryhard, then they are better". Theres not many on the bleeding edge of skill that care about wn8, because we all know that it literally doesnt mean a thing due to tank selection.

That literally doesn't make any sense. How can your result be better than your skill? if a person plays 1000 games of ELC at 2k DPG, then hes a player who can do 2k DPG in an ELC, nothing more, nothing less. his Wn8 might say 10000, but really, who with any relevance would care? But at the same time, does this make him a bad person? No, hes just a guy who can do 2000 damage per game in an ELC.

What's padding for you? For me it's pretty simple: I play randoms solo. So I want to play tanks which are relatively strong for their tier so I can actually influence the battle. After all I play this game for fun. And playing turds like the black prince or whatever solo in randoms is like cutting yourself. Why on earth would I do that? As far as my tank selection goes I play it flavour of the month style. Played a lot of M46 and 62A recently, kinda had enough of that now. So I'm doing some T-54 now which is surprisingly better than I remembered. Also gonna give the 140 another shot in randoms. I don't know but all these people calling out "padders" to me just seem jealous of something they couldn't achieve even if they tried hard.

Hey guys. Girls. Everyone inbetween. I'm sorry I've been gone. Life has been a challenge and that's good. Keeps me moving. Keeps me trying to find new avenues, new ways of making things work. I'm glad to see people are still talking. In a way, I wanted to give this over to Alesia. She can be a lot more active than I can. I'm looking for work, trying to keep my household from falling apart. Wondering what tomorrow will bring. I attended TIES here in Virginia this saturday and spoke to a wonderful Surgeon who does exactly what I want and she's stateside. Turns out, I had the money to cover it if we borrowed against my wife's TSP fund./until I had to pay taxes lol. Taxes. Fffrh. I never wanted to take anything from my wife for this. I guess I felt that I'd already taken her husband, how could I take her money? Turns out she feels differently. So, I'm working back the 5-6 grand I need to get everything fixed up. Gonna take time but I can do it, I know I can. There's not too much to really report that's going on, not really in detail anyway. I've healed from my chest revision, pretty well anyway..scar is kinda big but, what can be done but bare it with pride. I'm sick, but I'll get better. I'm spending my time cleaning, cooking, playing a little Destiny on XB1 if anyone has it. I just haven't been able to be active. I'll try to change that. TIES was a super interesting event though, tons of resources, name changes, notaries, gender marker stuff, classes for support and everything. http://www.equalityvirginia.org/transgender/summit/ Check it out!

Padders ruin this game. It inflates the wn8 economy that people care so much about. How the fuck am I supposed to pick between Cabawa and kewei to invest in? HOW DO I KNOW IF THEY PAD? HOW CAN I TELL? WHY DO I CARE? WHY DOES ANYONE CARE? These are all questions that have their place along with: What is the largest planet on earth, what is Obama's last name, why is Rhode Island a State, and "They don't think it be like it is but do it?"

heres my opinion: on the basis of it, to be able to pad to purple in high tier padding tanks, you still need to be actually good enough TO pad to that level. a 48%er could play full APCR E-50 all he wanted, if he didn't know how to play it wont suddenly make him purple. players Like Yato, or Luna, even though they do technically "pad" they still have to be EXTREMELY good to reach the levels they reached. sure, Yato would have a harder time getting there in the STB-1 than the T-62A. but he would still do way better than I could, or a lot of other people could. I could probably be considered a padder, Rexxie I don't know how you pulled your data, or if you included me, but I have 1400+ games in the Hellcat, have just ticked over 1000 games in the T-54, and am in the 900s in the 140. I also play almost exclusively in platoons, so my Win rate is way higher than it should be if I solod a fair amount. but the thing is, I don't consider myself to be padding. the problem with most of these "padder" tanks, is that they are also usually really good tanks. the E-50 and T-54 are two exceedingly good tier 9 mediums. the 140/62 are both also extremely good tanks. even down in the lower tiers, the IS-6 is a great tank. tanks like the T67 are also really good, but considered padder tanks. and the thing about all these good tanks is that its much more likely a player is going to keep them and play them more than other "non padding" tanks. who would rather keep and play a Lorraine 40t for 500 games than a T-54? the padding tanks are the best tanks, and the fun tanks. the tanks more players are much more likely to play a large number of games in. I wouldn't care if the Lorraine 40t was a massive padding tank and you could easily make boatloads of WN8 in it, I wouldn't care if the T-54 suddenly had a massive dump taken on its expected. I still wouldn't play the Lorraine and I would still play the T-54. then you get to the "padding mediums" complaint I see a lot. players just padding away in their medium tanks. TL;DR play more heavies/TDs if you don't want to be considered a padder. but I don't like playing slow heavies. they are boring. I enjoy playing mediums. oh no, im being called a padder now because the E100 is too slow for me to enjoy properly. and that ignores tanks like the STB-1. the STB has higher expected than all of the tier 10 heavies except the T57 and 50B (and VK7201 but thats a given because of the nature of the players who got it) is it a padding tank? no. I have like 700 games in it now, am I still considered a padder? its a medium. am I still a "medium padder"? In all honesty, I think it doesn't matter really. people play what they enjoy. I enjoy playing my T-54 and 140. Luna enjoys his E-50. Yato Enjoys the T-62A. if you can be purple at all at tier 8-10 you are already good enough as a player, and even if you pad in one tank your skills with that tank will still be applied to other tanks just because you still have to be actually good enough at the game to get at that level anyway. my $0.02 but you see. is a person that rerolled back in 2013 and now has 15K games still a considered a "noob reroll"? are these "rerolls" not "real purples"? I mean, even if they are rerolls, even if they play only padding tanks, they still have to be GOOD at the game in order to get those stats. my 46% W/R 700WN8 friend could reroll, beeline for the T-54 and play ONLY that with 100% HEAT for 500 games, he won't suddenly become purple like that. I could give him my current 4 skill T-54 and tell him to fire nothing but HEAT out of it on my account for 50 games. he won't play anywhere near purple. if I was watching him and guiding him every game he would probably top out at green at most.

I assume the forum populace here is much more inclined to check what tanks the player actually played to get their wn8 if they are interested in it at all. I don't usually participate in the usual brow-beatdown here in wotlab because I don't have the time to spend 4 hours furiously pressing F5, but on the issue of "padding", I just don't see the point in discusssing it. People who care purely about wn8 on this forum is probably not relevant, people who relevant probably don't care. And besides, being judged as a better player doesn't make you a better player, at the end of the day, you are still you, with your tank's stat reflecting how good you do.

If I was doing my sample again and happened to pick you, I'd probably have to put you in that middle ground of "maybe padded, but then not". The main problem I'd have with judging you is that your stats are borne out of mostly light tanks, which can vary WILDLY with playstyle. If I had to take a shot in the dark, I'd say you are. Most people with your tank comp would probably be padding. On the other hand, if I didn't have to, I'd probably pass you up because there's no way of knowing. Light tanks are a wildcard that I'd file under "questionable". It makes a lot of sense. You have a very optimistic (but very common!) view of how people view stats; I too would hope that people would look at stats with context, comparing them only when it makes sense, etc. Unfortunately, outside of the very high end (like getting vetted for a clan or team), this simply isn't the case. Unless you get called out and it becomes common knowledge (like what happened with Luna and his E-50, or Echelon and his ELC), people are simply not going to know why you have the stats you do. No one is going to care to look it up, that takes effort. The cold truth is that the stats to the left of your post, your username, and the clan you're in will almost always be what people use to judge your skill as a player. For example, if you made two accounts, made sure to never indicate they are both yours, and got 3.5k on one and 5k on another through different tank comps, I'd promise you that the way people would weight your opinions would be massively different. Rarely is anyone going to go into your noobmeter and figure you out any more accurately.

I think people are confused on what Padding/reroll actually means without objectively viewing the player itself. Lets say Yato, 6000 games in a T62A, with 4.1k dpg, objectively speaking, hes better than me, despite being a "padder", because I can't hit as high as a number if i tried, and i doubt there are many people who can. Now lets say some guy with 500 battles in 62A with 2.8k dpg, it doesn't matter if hes trying to pad, or if he rerolled, 2.8k is objectively not impressive. I always ask myself when judging a player "Can I do what he did if I tried?" The answer would determine how i view the person as a player, but of course, stats or not, it doesn't really define the person as a person.

IMO, once the stats hit a certain (arbitrary) point, they become meaningless. I rarely see much skill difference between 3-4-5k. At that point, it mostly comes down to vehicle selection. Same with win rates. Once it passes 65, I feel it's more vehicle/platoon selection than winning ability. Regardless, people who are padded to hell and back are almost certainly great players, even without the padding. If someone is a top 1% player, most of the game's population can learn from them. People aren't going to learn much more from a top 0.1%er, nor are there that many people who could learn from the dark purp but not the regular purp. So no, I don't think it's an issue. Padding is a side effect of stat collection. It really only applies to a small segment of the community, and the game as a whole. Granted, it's a segment that's over-represented here... I still don't see it as an issue.

What OP means is probably not "padding" but WN8-obsession of some people. I'm siding with CarbonWard here that this thread didn't make that much sense to me at the start. Top end players care mostly for DPG anyway and there is hardly "padding" damage, the WN8 just comes with it and it gets blown out of proportion by others.

Padding is padding, in my opinion it has a bit of a non-negotiable definition of "playing tanks that make you look better than you are". Like I said, even if you have a good excuse (in this case, because it's more fun) the result is the same in terms of how other people will react to you having those stats. And that's the heart of the problem - not that people pad, but how people react to padding. I appreciate that you want to defend the morality of whether padding is right or not, but that's not really what I'm getting at here.
