This is why the Zhao and almost all Jp cruisers are king to me. Even though being a newb on paper it has lowest DPM, middling range etc It has 10 km torps, amazing camo and I have now noticed Japanese having much better bow armor than they appear to have at a glance. IDK if its hitbox`s or what but they take very little dmg head on. But show there sides and its good night nurse.
Being new I thought US DD`s looked totally useless because they didnt have Ninja 20km torps but the more I play the more I realize after 10km its hard to predict enemies anyways, and guns on dessy`s are much better than I thought.
TBH WOWS balance is head and shoulders better than WOT and why I migrated to it. Its nice to see at least 2 countries in competition in each class. Its not all Rus meds and clones of rus meds.
Only sad part is US bb`s suck IMO. Well maybe not NC from what I have seen it looks great, huge camo for T8 BB. But Montana autopen hull vs Yamato and the slow, fat inaccurate BB`s are bad. I mean come on the US ships being slow and fat should get warspite lasers wit h17km range, not this 15 km with every 3rd salvo hitting BS.
From balance view. Kongo/Fuso should have mid range fast reload low accuracy while US gets lasers, large tanking and slow speed

This is why I dont play my 140 anymore. It takes way less skill than other tanks to win in. It simply performs best or 2nd best in every scenario, and that means you dont have to plan to play for your tanks niche. As long as you dont yolo to hard you can fight other tanks at there own game and stay competitive.  This is also the reason a ton of the best players love them is they can beat anyone on any map with them if they play right.
When I played it I wasnt great. I was 20% worse than now I feel. And my stats in it are as good as anything else almost. It simply is way to good at almost every role.
All Rus meds have against them is depression but the way the maps are made, they almost always make ways for you to reverse aim on hills or side depress or use the lower sides. -5 is harder but, -6 pretty much can do anything I need.
DPM characters or vehicles in other games really struggle in other ways and the Ru meds dont. Look at the STB shit gun handling. Its very bad. But the 140`s 320 alpha isnt really bad. TBH if they made it 280 the guns would still be great. ROF is so fast you can start tracking multiple tanks or with guys with no rep skill you can shoot 1 shot for DMG and one for tracking them.
Compare it to everything except the 62a, the 140`s turret is amazing. It doesnt have a huge tumor to pen, its still well angled and the thin overmatch spot is a tiny strip that you have to aim for that disapears when its leaned back. Everything else is godmode compare that to turret which can be penned
Next is there camo, the only other tanks in game that sneaky are sift as shit. AMX30 or Batchat vs a 140 is night and day. So in camo role its as good as anything.
All in all the 140 does nothing bad and is in every med role the 2nd best, if not first.
I try to play things that challenge me more and it has made me better. Playing the AMX30b was a blast and made me much more patient. STB makes you play much smarter tactically as you have to plan not to get in a true brawl with Rus meds because even though it has the best nato turret, it isnt shit compared to the Rus ones.
I can only hope the re balance gives us the real Amx30 or M60a1 that have weakish hulls but amazing turrets we deserve. I was really upset about them making theAMX30 so blah. It has the meh stats it would deserve if it had a great turret, so im hoping it will come.
Its funny even the 50/51 takes much more planning than a Rus med do, i n a RU med you can just go Yolo and figure out how to use its amazing all rounded to fight an win.

awesome thanks! what is definition of armeff? % incoming damaged that didn't reduce HP?
how do interpret last line in data set - T110E3 w armeff of 1.25? similar for maus, T95?
or is this  % incoming damaged that didn't reduce HP expressed as multiple of tank HP? Latter more intuitive....

It's the same thing as "tanking factor" in-game. IIRC it's equal to damage_blocked / damage_received for post-9.0 battles. I don't think it includes nominal HE damage or shots that don't hit the tank's armour.
To get an "effective hp", you'd just need to do hp*(1+armeff), although of course this doesn't include the ability of a tank to generate misses.

Here you go. Still working on the eff HP thing.

I also ran something on DPM Yield (Eff DPM/Theoretical DPM).
This explains why better players can pad lights so well ... aim better, avoid incoming fire better - live longer, do more dmg - harvest wn8. Also helps answer the salt vs. diamond question for E5.

    That would be awesome, thanks!

bounce data fixed below - sorry
So after I deciding to grind the soviet LT line I rebought the T-34 to unlock the MT-25. I was shocked to realize that the Tier 5 T-34 gun had a DPM that overshadowed some of my Tier 8s.
I started to look at some data to see if there were some other outliers like the T-34, maybe at less blatant seal-clubbing tiers. Things quickly got out of hand from there.
Below are some of the more interesting data views I came up with by pulling data from various sources. I also attached the spreadsheet in case someone wants to geek out. All of this is for Tier 6 + and for tanks with at least 1k battles in the data set.
Disclaimer: obviously this data contains a significant skill skew as you go up the Tier ladder and as your look at reward tanks that are typically driven by some of the best players only.
All-in, no massive surprises, but I found it interesting.
    DPM by tank
Raw DPM alone doesn’t tell the full story – crappy accuracy combined with poor gun handling and penetration can mess up an otherwise good DPM. So I compared theoretical DPM (average damage * rounds per minute) with “effective” DPM (theoretical DPM * average hit rate * average penetration rate).

Interesting are some of the outliers: T-44, ARL 44, T20 (average players struggle to convert their already low DPM). High-Tier Russian hover craft mediums and British TDs have the highest effective DPM and DPM yield.  Combined with hover craft mobility, that explains how Russian mediums can carry games better than others.
    DPM, HP and survivability
So which tanks should you snipe with vs. which tanks should you brawl with? And what effect does armor and survivability have on this?

If you compare effective DPM with Health, you can see which tanks can both dish out and absorb damage, vs. which can only do one of the two well. T-44 still sucks, while top-tier autoloader heavies & big TDs rule supreme. But what about does that mean I should brawl with them? Which tanks can bounce incoming fire while still pushing out massive damage compared to their health?

In the bottom right you have tanks that put out tremendous amount of damage compare to their own HP, but can’t stop any incoming fire. When it comes to doing damage these guys should hang back in the second line and snipe.  Think Bromwell and  59-16. On the top left, you have tanks that can take a beating but need to have their guns hot for a long time to make a different – brawlers.  The guys in the bottom left are fucked – can’t handle incoming fire and so comparatively little effective damage.
    Per special request:
    Effective HP vs. Eff DPM
With help of RichardNixon I was able to estimate "effective" HP - here defined as theoretical HP plus incoming damage that doesnt reduce HP (bounces, eaten by tracks etc).
    T-44 still sucks

    Stuff for missions:
Which of your tanks is good for HT-12 and TD-8 (bounce or do x-times your HP)?

NSFW – IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO STAT PADDING, DON’T READ ANY FURTHER.
So what if you are a shit lord like me and want to figure out tanks that are not only fun to play (high DPM), have low expectations to get a decent wn8 and offer some reasonable survivability?
    Expected Damage vs. DPM

Tanks on top of this graph have very high expectations for damage compared to their effective DPM (Wn8 Exptected DMG / Eff. DPM), while tanks on the bottom of the chart have very low expectations. For example, for the VK28.01 even after accounting for average hit rate and penetration yield, you only need to keep your gun hot and on target for ~0.5 minutes to achieve the expected damage threshold.
Tanks on the left can’t bounce incoming fire, but tanks on the right can. So I am guessing that the tanks on the bottom are easier to pad (i.e. do well re wn8) in general. To do so, you need to avoid enemy fire better than the average for the bottom left (e.g. 59-16), or keep your gun on target more for the bottom right.
So lights in general offer opportunity to pad, So do SU-152, E2, and some of the Japanese Heavies - average players struggle to convert their DPM into damage and good players may keep their guns in the fight longer and cash in on those lowered expectations.
    And the T-44 still sucks.
    Data:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/54j4uiszuy3zs8k/dpmV3.csv?dl=0
    All data from:
vBAddict (bounce, hit rate and pen rate data), wn8 expected value tables (expected damage) and tanks.gg (HP,DPM). ArmEff from RichardNixon.
Tx to @Orrie and @RichardNixon for tips on the data

SFC_Storm reacted to Intumesce in 10 Reasons why you should be playing Armored Warfare
Glad you asked! tl;dr: they're garbage
At tier 1-4, not many tanks have ATGMs and even fewer have APS. APS, in case you're not aware, work in 2 ways in AW. Either they are passive, unlimited use but with a longer cooldown or they're active, limited to 4 uses but has a shorter cooldown. Both do the same thing, they destroy a missile in the air so it can't hit the tank.
But even without APS, most MBTs have either pure armor thickness or shaped charge modifiers. With the exception of paper tanks (OF-40, Leopard 1) almost all MBTs can resist ATGMs frontally thanks to their armor thickness or SC modifiers alone. Some of them get reactive and/or cage armor which can stop an ATGM on their own, so if APS fails and sheer thickness wouldn't save you, reactive armor might.
At tier 5-6, SC modifiers get even better and so does armor thickness. It gets really hard to pen an MBT with an ATGM from the front. At tier 7 the Leopard 2 gets APS which completely shuts down ATGMs 4 times with a cooldown. At tier 8 finally, ALL MBTs have APS in either active or passive forms. All of them have very strong SC modifiers on top of already strong armor, plus almost all of them get some form of reactive armor. Penetrating them from the front with an ATGM is no longer realistically possible. Some TDs and even AFVs get APS as well.
Also, these are not the only ways to protect yourself against ATGMs. Missiles are very slow, they travel at a snail's pace of 200m/s. Dodging them is not difficult, especially in faster vehicles or if you just move into cover, since LoS is REQUIRED to properly guide an ATGM. You even get a warning at 400m away when an ATGM is heading in your direction, so you have a minimum of 2 seconds to react.
However, these aren't all the tricks to ATGMs.
The most commonly suggested method is to aim an ATGM above a tank then direct it down into their hull/turret roof. While possible and all MBTs can be penned through the roof, there's absolutely no way to measure how far away your ATGM is so it's complete guesswork to make it connect. It's easy to try to redirect it down but the missile will either be too far away and hit the ground or will be too close and will hit their hull.
Some AFVs get salvos of 2 or even 4 ATGMs that can be fired within 2 seconds of each other instead of having to load each ATGM individually. This can be used to shut down APS then connect with the second hit, but even without APS they still have to deal with all the difficulties of making the missile penetrate in the first place. Multi-salvo ATGMs also usually suffer from much lower damage than single-shot ones.
And a side note: 2 tanks at the moment have HE ATGMs that don't need to penetrate to deal damage, but they're even more worthless. They get only slightly more pen than a normal main cannon HE round, but even a penetrating HE round does FAR less damage than a normal missile. The splash itself also often deals less damage than just shooting main cannon HE rounds.
Now to directly answer your questions:
It's nothing like arty in WoT. Not even arty is exactly like WoT arty.
    It works like described above.
They have very high penetration, but it's merely an illusion. ATGMs hover around 400-550mm penetration for the first few tiers and gets to 800-1,100mm penetration for high tiers, but shaped charge modifiers plus raw armor thickness scales much faster than ATGM pen does.
It does around twice as much damage as a normal AP round. If a round at tier 6 does around 380 damage, an ATGM would do around 750 damage.
In proportion to tanks? Depends heavily on the tank. AFVs obviously lose >50% of their health from an ATGM while MBTs lose 15-30% depending on the MBT and missile.
Track as in following your mouse or disabling track treads? It's "100%" accurate since it follows your mouse, but it's bad at detracking since modules have tons of HP in this game.
They hit parts of tanks with thin armor depending on where you aim. Aiming for the UFP means it will go there and aiming for the turret roof means it will go there.
You counter them as described above. Often you barely even have to think about countering them at all while driving an MBT since you have tons of passive protection in the form of armor and APS, plus not many people use ATGMs in the first place.
So all in all, ATGMs only really work when shooting the side armor of tanks without APS. It might penetrate the front of an MBT 2 tiers lower than you, but since MM is planned to be +/-1, that will never happen once OBT comes around.
Generally they are so worthless that you're better off just using HE against the enemy. And don't expect OE to buff them any time soon because they have repeatedly said it would somehow be overpowered.

Took a better look at the pictures and that to me looks like a reload mod and a direction indicator mod... both of which would normally require external fonts or have a font defined in a config. Or (rarely) you might be lucky to have a font embedded in the swf file as SFC stated above. This still has to be referred to by either the main config or a 'redundancy config' (if 'config line not defined' else 'use default font' <- probably the best way I can explain it in English)

So as most know when the HD tanks are being re-worked they also look like Camo ratings are changing. I cant believe it, the M48 is literally half the camo values as other. True its large for a Med but not nearly as large as the 50m which has a 1.5% more base camo. The M60 is 6.27.
Anyways the 30b, STB and Leo 1 were all based on the M60 which is the same size [more or less]. While the Pattons are a bit taller, they are not as exaggerated as 50% less camo.
    30b= 15.5%/11 base camo/moving
    Leo= 14%/11
    STB= 13.5%/10
    M48=  8.27/6.21
Seriously, this isnt even the 17.5/13 Rus meds. I don`t understand this at all.
The M48`s 7 ton difference was only in the hulls thickness. In most cases it was 110mm vs 50-80mm which is a huge difference but the profile and heat dissipation was the same.
I knew the camo would be worse, but this is pitiful. For this low of camo it should get some great attribute, but it doesnt. It still is middling at best in most things. Its viewrange isnt worth this crap camp at all.

BTW these values are much worse than the older values. It was around 11.5%/9% before. The M46 which is just as big is 10.46/7.82 and they are near identical minus a tumor.
Just to make it clear the IS4 has the same camo as the M60...lol
And the E5 that is much smaller than the IS7 and IS4 is...30% less camo`d. Wow. These Rus devs are crazy. IDK what I expect from you guys on this, but im seriously stunned at how out of whack the camo is in this game.

The problem isn't that the Pattons are "jack of all trades", the problem is that they're bad at it. Why would anyone want to use a well rounded tank when well rounded means it's uniformly subpar in everything?

With map meta as it is the game leans heavily towards alpha. So with normal gun at 3.5 secs in 11 secs in between a heavies reload you can do 450 DMG tops and this is hoping not to take 390 DMG from rus gun.
With Auto you get 750 DMG, it might as well have a 150mm gun on it

On open maps normal gun is fine but you have to be much more scouty and cant fight really at all. With Autoloader I will let them hit me once for clipping them out.

I did this with a T44, he shot and I poked out, then he shot me and tracked me and I killed him.....

The Auto makes it possible to act like a heavy and pop out, and because its so fast it works great as I reload and switch sides o map etc.

OMG half those PBKAC guys who are talking are horriblke 1300 wn8 55% W/R pubbies talking about techinical stuff and talking as if they are on the same level as Garbad and others..

I can`t imagine that PBKAC had a 1300 wn8 FC in there clan. Stormtrooper is treated like a newb and he is the only one making sense, him and that wombat guy calling bullshit on the newb saying he beat Garbad in his Maus.

SFC_Storm reacted to Kiwi. in SU-85i solo ~ 100 games Challenge
Both are solid tanks. Well I got off on the wrong start with the 122-44. Played it like a shitlord and continue to do so. su-122-44 does not receive pref mm so it can be subject to tier 9 violence. same penetration as an is6 so it will need premium ammo when in higher tier battles. that's for sure. i found that the 122-44 is hard to play solo. too team dependent. with the su-85i it can be fairly easy to carry the team. i think it comes down to the fact that 122-44 does not have pref mm. however in a tier 7 or 8 battle the 122-44 dominates. it's super amazing. anything above that it just lacks the ability to carry from what i've experienced.

but i think the su-85i is better for its tier. either that or it's because when i played the 122-44 the teams were trash. i saw heavies going med positions almost every battle. i saw a lot of weird shit when i played the 122-44. i even gave up and tooned the 122-44 with blunicum players. even then i just got unlucky with the tank.

SFC_Storm got a reaction from coolcoolcoolnow in Crack down on arty related rule violations.
Status updates seems to far to me. I have never once spreged about arty, and I understand its here to stay, but in most cases status updates are the venting room. I`d say 50% of all updates I see are "Dumb ass pubs" "I did XYZ DMG and still couldnt carry these tards" etc.

Also, I understand it makes us look "Unprofessional" but saying as a reason Minsk doesnt give a shit about what we think is a useless argument as well. Just because they wont listen to us doesnt mean we shouldn`t keep telling the truth. If there is a broken game mechanic, we should be the ones pounding it away until it goes away.

IMO WOTLABS is supposed to be the force of educated light in the dark uneducated pubbie masses. Im not saying I agree with all the arty sperg, but we should never have a reason for anything be "Because WG doesnt listen anyways" or "We wont changed anything anyways"

If all we ever talked about was stuff WG was willing to change or willing to listen about, the forums would be dead.
