  1. Look at that post-buff bloom values: http://tanks.gg/wot/compare#t:wz-111.c:fcm-50-t.c:fv4202-p as good as some "fire support" vehicles. I'm really looking forward to grinding Swedish tanks but I don't wanna deal with this new Type 59 (or... Tier 8 IS-7?) Notes: I'm on Chinese server where 9.17 comes at Dec. 20th and everyone buys WZ111.
  2. Here you go: https://thearmoredpatrol.com/2016/10/21/vk-72-01-k-initial-changes/ https://thearmoredpatrol.com/2016/10/21/vk-72-01-k-supertest-armor-changes/
  3. They must have learned this whole thing from Chinese server, a la Type 59 Gold.
  4. Technically I could agree these are buffs as a fact. But still, we are looking at a tier 8 tank which has bad fire control, bad DPM, worst alpha in tier, weak hp/ton and some armor but only when at higher ground. Also good penetration, good shell velocity and -10 gun depression, sure. But 40 km/h is still as meh as tier 8/9 Centurions and more profitability doesn't contribute directly to winning. Is WG suggesting that we should just sprem in this thing? I mean, it's not like WG doesn't know how to buff a tank in a way that actually matters. Just look at that WZ111 and M4 Rxxx megabuff. Bonus: here on Chinese WoT server, WZ-111 (and T-34-3. And 112 of course) still has 300mm pen HEAT which only costs 3600 credits per round. Yeah.
  5. For me personally, it's more about ease of use than learning what a tank is capable of. Before I started messing with XVM configs, I was using a contour icon mod to identify vehicle types easier -- TDs are in color blue, heavies are in scary red. You can get a good guess of how the game might be going with a quick glance. Later I ditched contour icon for XVM's {{c:vtype}}, which is still in use now as seen in the screenshot. But I always have to do the math like "they have 3 tier 10 heavies while 2 of them are 50B so let's make it 1" or "we do have an advantage of mediums but most of them are TD with turrets". With this vehicle role thing it helps take off a little bit of cognitive load for me. Yes and no, depends on what the "other stuff" is. Custom py_macro scripts are running in an isolated environment. Not everything(accessing file system is a no-no, and I don't believe doing networks things would work, too) can be done here. But it should be pretty easy to just show alternative stats provided within XVM. I might give it a shot after I finished procrastinating while being paid today (7 hours to go).
  6. Tank role is a thing. Even Wargaming knows this and may implement it in the game someday. So, let's give it a try today maybe? Right now I'm trying to implement this in the easiest way: Steal Wargaming's vehicle role definition Represent each vehicle role with a single character Show the vehicle character via XVM's py_macro extensibility (implemented in 6.3.0, kinda new stuff) With my own XVM config it looks like this for now: Here's my rough definition for each class in case you (probably) don't know what it means: H: heavium, assault tank C: cavalry, "true" medium tank S: scout F: mobile fire support D: dreadnaught, slow brick <space>: other stuff, including arty Here's now you can try with this stuff: Prerequisites You have XVM installed You know how to edit XVM config files Installation Download this file and put it in your ``<wot>/res_mods/configs/xvm/py_macro/'' folder. Modify your XVM config like this: Define an extra field for player panel Add the field to your favorite mode of player panel You might want to adjust the x and y values so that the vehicle role character doesn't overlap with anything else in your player panel. Hint: you can test it by watching a replay instead of actually going into battles. This whole implementation is surely pretty immature. But I'd like to post it to the world here anyway just to see how you fine Wotlabs folks would make this actually useful.
  7. I'm not a hardware person. A short and precise answer could be "I have no idea at all". But I'll try to conjure up a longer version anyway: The rough spec of my machine is: CPU: i5-4690k. Not overclocked for now, might figure out how to do that later RAM: 16G GPU: GTX 960 with 2G memory When I'm streaming with FFmpeg (with x264 as the video encoder, which runs on CPU instead of GPU) in 1280x800 resolution, it can reasonably keep running WoT at 45-60 fps, rarely dropping under 40 fps. This whole setting is kinda acceptable for me. But again, I'm not a hardware person and I have no idea whether to describe this kind of performance as "okay" or "I should really work on optimizing beyond 'it works just fine'".
  8. I'm running latest version(1.9.15 for now) of wine-staging with CSMT enabled in an Archlinux system. WoT works great except for occasional f*ck up when loading textures. But it doesn't happen that often to annoy me and could easily be "fixed" by turning it off and on again. PlayOnLinux could be an easy solution. But manually installing all the dependencies wasn't difficult IIRC. The PlayOnLinux script and Wine App DB both serve as good guides. Configuring fonts for CJK languages in Wine could be a PITA if that might ring you a bell.
  9. Everyone at WoT Chinese server gets T-22 (time limited, 3 days) for clicking a button. Guess I'd better keep myself away from Tier X battles.

Are there any tanks good at countering those T-22s? I guess arty maybe?

@TheMarine0341 Weak turret roof? Thanks. Arty it is. :ohnyes: Besides, I am playing on Chinese server, not SEA.

@Siimcy Your account have to be registered before 2016 March 14th to be qualified to get this. So um, no T-22 for you.

  10. Just finished MT-9.4 (2k damage on 1 tier higher heavies) with Skoda T50. For a scrublord like me, it's just too hard to do 2k damage to high tier heavies in Pershing / Muts consistently. And I don't have CDC / Obj. 416 in my garage. With the addition of Japanese HT and Czech MT, the list could use a slight update I guess. O-I is just a KV2 with armor. And both O-Ni / O-Ho are (very) capable of finishing HT-4.X with the derp gun. Skoda T50 is good at killing / damaging anything 1 tier higher.

Yep, the victim is the VK 4502B. Mission MT12.4 completed.

  12. Chinese server player here. AFAIK there's no confirmed purchase of this tank at all. Rumor says that it might be priced at 10K+ CNY but I haven't seen a single video / stream / screenshot of a purchased one yet. Maybe Wargaming hasn't decided how to implement Chieftain exactly otherwise it should be purchasable (if not to be implemented on tech tree) at Chinese server already. Since 9.12 time-limited Chieftains have been handed out to some video producers / streamers / people who paid lots of money. Besides, there were some events in which you can win time-limited Chieftain as well. Right now you can just purchase 100 CNY worthy of gold (4000, which isn't much) and get a bonus of playing Chieftain for 3 days. In pub games a Chieftain driver either is a unicum who performs well regardless of the tank, or doesn't know what he's doing at all, as I've seen.
  13. 4202P mission started on Chinese server with the exact same mission requirements as on EU/RU/SEA server. Chinese players are really happy with this unexpected equality.

  14. First post on a new blog, yaye. In case you haven't figured out: CSI stands for Chinese Server Insanity, which is obvious. Consider that I already have a WoT blog written in Chinese, guess I should make this blog like, what, introducing what it's like to play at Chinese server for you the curious ones. So here we go: time-limited premium tanks. This feature is lanched with patch 0.9.4. You can rent a premium tank for 30 days with roughly 1/4 of the full price. But in practice I believe there aren't many tanks actually rented w/ gold. Since you can actually buy premium tanks at a much lower price than the in-game price. Take 112 for example: in-game it sells 12250 gold, which equals roughly 300 CNY (1 CNY = 40 WoT Gold at Chinese server, but there are +10~20% bonus events for purchasing gold regularly.) A 30-day rental of 112 costs 3070 gold. But here's the catch: the official web store offers the 112 bundle for only 99 CNY, including 100% trained crew, 1 garage slot, 200 premium shells, vstab + GLD + rammer and 30 prem consumables. Whoever spends gold on premium tanks in-game, either purchasing a permanent one or renting, would be seen as a total noob. But let's not talk about this hard failing business plan since most players are not that stupid. Let's talk about how KDW(nickname of the operator of Chinese server) continues to make use of the time-limited premium tank feature: they give out lots of time-limited tanks as various kinds of event rewards / bonuses: For the first time you ever purchase any amount of gold: 7 days of Panther 8.8 A recent 2-week event for Chinese New Year gives out time-limited Churchill L, Rheinmetall Skorpion, Steyr Waffentrager and AMX M4. 49 at different stages, as long as you keep checking in at the event's webpage. A month-long event in October 2015 gives out various time-limited tier 6-10 premium tanks. Covering all MM tier you're likely to play at. If you've seen rented Panzer 58 Mutz flooding NA server, the situation is a lot more common at Chinese server. Sure, it's an easy way of trying out new premiums (you can't log in into public test server w/ a Chinese server account), but the insanity is serious. Pubbies yoloing in Object 907 only w/ 50% crew and binocs + camonet + toolbox (hopefully), just imagine. On the bright side, you can target at a specific vehicle class to complete individual missions a lot easier. Killing 3 TDs? Wait for a Rheinmetall Skorpion apocalypse. The Skorpion is like Borsig without having to grind. And pubbies who drive these are more likely to camp till death. Oh, I just got 3 MoE on my Rudy last month. Guess who should I give credit for. Until next time.

    Type 62

Quoting myself here: This seems to be no longer true since 9.9. Type 62 is now properly balanced as a scout when matchmaking, albeit it's not mentioned in the patch notes. WG is actually fixing things.
  16. Correct. But here's another aiming trick accompanies this tip really well: In arcade mode, point your crosshair to a high building / hill / ridge near your final targetPress shift key to enter strategy mode. You're now aiming at the same building / hill / ridge, which is close enough to your final target.(Release RMB and) aim as usualIf there's no building / hill available, you can try aiming at the sky instead. This will bring your aiming view to the edge of the map after entering strategy mode, which might be good enough as well. Think aiming toward A1 from A8 at El Halluf. You're probably doing fine already, sir. Yes. If you don't have to rotate your hull, don't use this trick at all. But if hull rotation is incurred for sure, the blooming of hull rotation is dominating. And mechanics-wise this trick makes hull rotation blooming and gun moving blooming don't get triggered at the same time, which is the whole point here. That was just one way to do it. Hold RMB and rotate is good on blooming as well especially when you don't have to re-aim to a far away location (which would require a lot of mouse dragging).
  17. Recently I just started playing arty for more female crew. And obviously there aren't too much info at Wotlabs on how to get good at arty. So I figured that I might contribute a little bit on my own. Among Chinese WoT community there's an arty tip called "The Great Right Button Method(右键大法)". The gist of it is: When you need to rotate / move your hull, hold right mouse button (RMB for short) to lock you gun barrel. Only move your gun when your hull is static. Here's one way to do it: Instead of just Ctrl+right-click on the minimap when re-aiming, do the following: Hold RMB to lock your gun barrelPress shift to exit strategy modeRotate the hull to aim cover the new location w/ your gun arcPress X to lock hullPress shift to enter strategy mode, move your mouse to overlook at the new locationRelease RMB, aim as usualIf all goes well, you would notice that the reticle bloom is much smaller than simply Ctrl+right-click re-aiming. You could also apply this tip when dodging counter-arty fire and relocating. Is this science or voodoo? Science for sure. Some fine dudes who bring XVM to Chinese server (l10n and dedicated rating system) figured out how the reticle bloom is calculated. I'm not sure if I'm authorized to re-post this, but if you can read Chinese (or give Google Translate a try) you can read the full text here: http://xvm.garphy.com/?p=1733 Does this work for non-arty vehicles? Yes. The blooming mechanics are the same for all types of vehicles. But it's more noticeable for arty. Actually I might have seen someone mentioned this tip at Wotlabs forum already. But memory fades. Hope this tip helps you get better at clicking. Now that I need to click the other button (and hold it!) as well, this clicker thing is becoming too much for me...
  18. 6 wins / 26 games today @ 23%. Wow.

Yep. Luckily I've been playing this game long enough to get past the bad feelings. And it was 18 / 27 @ 66% today. Yaye.

  19. Rule of thumb when I'm playing vision game: Try to have hard cover(reverse slope works too if not better). * Your pubmates might be too dumb to shoot things, letting your emeny yolo into you. * You might need to fire and lower your camo. * The enemy always have the upper hand when they're bushcamping with binocs. * The enemy could fire blind shots and have lucky hits. Hard cover == best camo.
  20. Some more tips from a deep-green-to-blue: * Practice manual aiming. Auto-aim only gets you so far. Manual aiming could hit the following targets more reliably: ** E100 turret cheeks ** Every tank's LFP ** Soviet / China tanks' hull. Auto-aimed shots might fly to their tough turrets. Manual aiming could aim a bit lower Since you can aim a bit more to the right / left side, manual aiming could also reduce your exposure. Practice it. * Fire when the reticle is just about to "jump" out of cover onto your target. This works when you have a not-too-much-not-too-little ping of 70 - 150 ms. * Tanks with high rate of fire are more preferred since you can spam more shots instead of counting on one nice hit every 12s. * Have support if possible. The enemy always has the choice of yolo & DPM hp-trade, whether it's in their favor or not.
  21. Necrobumping this since I need a decent high tier TD trying to do the IMs and it's collecting dust in my garage right now. Should I drop optics for... binocs(or what?) (was running rammer / GLD / optics) since the view range nerf of 9.6? Or should I just go for JagdTiger which might perform better in current meta instead? I still don't get the hang of casement TDs but my stats in Waffle Pz.4 is shitty too so any general TD tips would be appreciated.
  22. Guess I just overreacted to keep out of trouble like a prototypical Chinese = =
  23. If WG doesn't quite like LOLI I'm afraid BSHJO might not end well either. With a sense of grown up, what about OKSAN(奥さん)?
  24. Watched Durarara season 1 and caught up with season 2. Not sure if I actually like it or not.
