    Welcome back RNG!

    Just my $0.02.
    - Good lord I am bad! I used to comfortably sit around 3k+ and thought that most people should be able to. I thought I would be able to pick up where I left off after a few rusty games but that is definitely not the case.
===> Takes some time getting used to. Teams are a lot more passive and campy these days.
    - The meta is simultaneously much more passive and much more aggressive. By this I mean it feels like as a single player there are much fewer chances to make successful aggressive plays to change the outcome of the game or push the pace of a match. However on a whole team scale the matches feel like they are much faster in general. The average game feels about 4-5min in length with few exceptions. It feels like there is very little back and forth where a good play can change the game and more lopsided rolls each way. I'm not sure if this is a symptom of the new maps or just me being bad but the game flow definitely feels very different.
===> Bad maps & steam rolling platoons (a good 3 man platoon can totally dominate a flank, which causes domino effect, and the 3-4 min games). With the new player base (or evolution of bad players) where they camp and wait for prey, the passive play gets punished by the bigger flank of attackers or coordinated attack of a platoon. The maps are a more corridor-like and allows TD's to camp better and hull down tanks to defend easier. It rewards camping game play imho. Unless you have the overwhelming force and/or coordinating in a platoon the long matches are pretty much campy stalemates where you have to carefully move around the map and look for cross shots.
-There are a lot of new and reworked maps. The general theme seems to be that there are a couple areas made viable for each type of tank that you are mostly shoe horned into playing with very little room to take different/aggressive positions. Do you guys find this to be the case or am I just out of touch when it comes to map knowledge?
===> Pretty much, it got easier for TD's to camp safely and tanks to go hull down. The only aggressive plays I have seen are pretty much from mass pushes from one flank. The new wheely-bois are the ones that really "scout" actively at least, since they have the speed to try and spot a camping nest of TD's and hulldown tanks, and make it out alive doing "passes" if you would. Regular light tanks become more important end game than ever, trying to find the last few tanks that are hiding in their camping nests.
-Arty is still here, it no longer one shots you most of the time which is nice I guess. I realize the rework is ancient history to most people now but what was/is peoples overall opinion on it? From my games coming back it feels like we didn't really go anywhere just maybe rearrange the furniture a bit. Still has the overall same effect of punishing anyone who dares get spotted but maybe even more effectively now with the bigger splash.
===> Arty is still dangerous. It helps defenders defend easier against pushes, and also, does damage to campers. IMHO they have become more effective than before since they shoot more often. Yeah, they can't one shot as easily, but still do a good 300-500 damage per shot, plush with the stun mechanic, if you're sitting outside in a field, you're probably going to have a bad time with the camping "meta".
-The player base feels super tiny. When I left the top end was already a fairly small group who mostly knew of each other but there was still a multiple viable clans and a good chunk of mid level clans that sometimes punched above their weight. Now it seems like there is only a hand full of the mid level clans and even fewer high level clans. Has the player base really shrunk this much or do I just miss-remember?
===> There are new "good players" and fewer of the "best" (guess they retired). Since the "best" players left, the newer "good players" are the "best" players? Not sure. For me, I used to be dark blue, sometimes purple, but now, my aggressive play style is punished and now I have to work harder to be dark blue. Fck these missions forreal, if I didn't grind missions for T-55A, I could probably be dark blue/light purple again.
-Kinda linking on to the last point but it feels like most of the people I used to play with are gone or log on once in a blue moon. Is the player base really this dead or is it just a new group playing now?
===> I think it's new players, and more kid's playing. I noticed WG is going full ham with experience boosters, so people don't have to "grind" as much for their higher level tanks. Things go on sale left and right, and overall I feel like WG is doing everything they can to make this game more accessible to people, giving them incentives to stick around and play more. Even monthly missions or events usually reward playing multiple tiers (5-6, 6-7, 8-9 or 8-10).

The good things that changed? IMHO:
    - The matchmaker
    - Arty nerf (yeah, it sucks they shoot more often + having stun mechanic, but at least no more getting 1 shotted?)
    - New tanks to play with
    - New game modes (depends on if you play them or not)
    - x5 XP bonus's and option to weed out maps out of rotation if you have WoT Premium account

    The bad IMHO:
    - They're going to nerf gold shells, and reward regular shell use
    - They nerfed my beloved Type 5
    - Arty shoots more often, introduction of wheelybois (depends if you love playing them or hate countering them)
    - Camp fest rewarding corridor style maps / players that like to camp
    - I feel the player base has overall less situational awareness than before

I started playing back in 2013 and played fairly solidly up until I left for school in 2016. Some friends got me interested in playing the campaign around Christmas and again for the most recent one. After that I decided comp play was kinda fun again and that I might check out some pubs to get some of the new tanks. These are a couple observations I had after jumping back into the game, I would be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on them.

RNG_ reacted to Valachio in WoT stats vs real life stats
So I felt like writing this piece today.
The perception of purples by the average pubbie is the same as the perception of the rich by the masses.  I can make quite a few analogies.
    1. The rich don't pay taxes - False, most of the 1% (e.g. Doctors, lawyers, high-skill engineers) pay a lot more in taxes than the poor; only the super-rich who has the ability to manipulate large amounts of money don't pay their equal share in taxes.  Same can be said for the perception of XVM; pubbies think XVM benefits unicums more than the average player.  Whereas in reality, pubbies who use XVM (especially arty) can avoid/focus out unicums and unicums has little need for XVM (I personally don't use XVM, for example)
    2. The rich makes their wealth by luck - False, 95%+ of rich people are very hard-working (80+ hours a week) and experienced many, many failures before finally achieving paramount success.  Many pubbies believe Unicums get better rng, whereas rng actually benefits pubbies (more randomness factor).  Most unicums get good by studying the game extensively coupled with better reaction time and (to a certain extent) above average IQ.
    3. The rich doesn't work hard - False, I've met my share of successful rich people and they work extremely hard.  80+ hours a week is a no-brainer for them.  Some pubbies tend to think unicums use some sort of cheating program or consistently statpad to achieve good stats.
The last important similarity - 99% of the masses won't become rich, just like how 99% of the players in this game won't become unicums.

RNG_ reacted to Acumen in Is WOT dying 2.0
There is a thread in Metagame discussion that asks is WOT dying? http://forum.wotlabs.net/index.php?/topic/23013-is-wot-dying/ I had been planning on doing a simple analysis of WOT's major sites to work this out for myself. I do this sort of thing for a living and thought it might be a bit of fun.
Let me stress this is a VERY simple analysis and the Alexa metric I use is also not very precise but it is good enough to give a general indication of how the sites are doing. I would never use just Alexa for a client.
I am not measuring the number of players, I am measuring the popularity of the sites which should be a reflection on the gaming population.
Lastly ignore the number with the red background (that is a weekly or monthly indicator) look at the graph.
So here are the big Wargaming Properties. I am just presenting the data you guys can make your own judgement.
Worldoftanks.asia: Traffic is trending pretty drastically down. Interestingly the Mods and employees of wargaming asia are constantly spruking record player population every month. The traffic to the website seems to be saying the opposite. Very down since about December last year but this could be a reflection of the holiday period. Having said that, the Asian nations tend not to celebrate Christmas as ardently as the west.

Worldoftanks.com: Also trending down since about December last year.

Worldoftanks.ru: Traffic is pretty steady and RU is easily the most popular WG forum site. It took a big dip around April for some reason. Might have something to do with the wiki being moved to wargaming.net? It is still a bit down. So there is no real growth either. Which would be a concern.

Worldoftanks.eu: WG's second biggest forum site. Once again a big fall since about December. I would have said this was something to do with people having more time to play around christmas but with Asia and NA taking the same dip. I am not so sure.

Wargaming.net : Traffic to wargaming.net is up. This could be a reflection of the wiki traffic that now goes there.

Wotlbas.net: Sadly the traffic to wotlabs appears to be down. This may not be true as Alexa does get less precise the smaller the site is and wotlabs is much smaller than the official sites.

My.com (Armored Warfare) : It is up a lot.interestingly it has had major growth during the time that most of the WOT sites have started dropping. It is now catching up to WG's RU forum although if you added up all the traffic from all of WG's sites it would still be a lot more than my.com.

personally I think WOT is in decline but it isn't dramatic but it does appear to be a steady decline. There really has been no up tick in traffic stats at all this year.

    Hey guys and gals,
Over the years I've chatted with some of you, played with many of you, befriended all of you, which is why I feel compelled to give a final goodbye. Now I plan on writing my story below of how this game has changed in my eyes BUT if you don't want to read a novel, no need to. For health reasons, this game and myself do not mix anymore. I can no longer seek refuge here and have fun. So I have to say goodbye.
I'm not sure what will become of my account, I wish I could ask WG to delete it, but I think I will pass on to a friend and let it be his problem now. With that being said, I wish everyone here a respectful goodbye ! I wish each and everyone one of you the very best that I can both inside and outside this game.
I hope to cross paths with many of you in other games, if you want my steam, please send me a private message.

Story (You Don't Need to Read Beyond this Point) *WARNING* Fairly Long:
This isn't going to be a complaining story or any of that stuff. Just my life in WoT and how I feel the game has changed over the years and also how I've changed alongside it.
It is actually impressive to see how long I've been with this game. I look back and remember when I first started playing it, I was in college, my last semester. I was instantly hooked, that was more than 3 years ago. This game accounts for a good portion of my life and no other game held me that long on a constant basis (minus 2/3 breaks). The only other game that came remotely close was Star Wars Galaxies way back when. WoW held it for a while but I'd leave and come back when an expansion came rolling around (except Panda).
Remembering that this game has been around for my first job out of college, when I lost that job, when I created my own company, bought my first new car, broke up with my first love, all these things, WoT was part of my life at that time. Didn't really have an affect on those things, but I played this game during all those emotional roller coasters brought on by life, and we all know life can be a b!tch.
I still remember my noob days, they were fun, I had a blast. I remember my green and baby blue days, I had a blast as well. I joined right before the french TDs were introduced and I still remember my first tier 8 outside of premium tanks. The AMX AC 48, boy did I suck bad in it. But I had a blast.
Unfortunately, my competitive side eventually kicked in and that is when I had my first "downhill" moment with this game. I became obsessed with WN7 (at the time) and soon to be WN8. I remember how important it was for me to get to the next tier and every bad game I acted like I was kicked in the nuts, insulted, humiliated. I wish I could go back to my former self and tell myself to chill out. Eventually I hated this game so much. I would rage and yell, which made my gaming experience worse. Finally took a break. Had life events going on which luckily took my free time away. Played WoW as well.
Several months pass and I came back, and that love and fun I had for this game came with it. I played and watched streamers simultaneously. I got good, really good. Before I knew it I was blue and a purple recent, but I didn't care anymore about my stats, I felt free as a bird. I just played to have fun and for many of us here, fun is doing well and feeling accomplished. Little did I know my competitive side would eventually get the best of me. WN8-caring started coming back. I quickly decided another break was necessary.
I did come back (this past March).  I was what some could argue a different person, many life events had caused me to mature quickly, my parents would probably say too quickly, it is true. But that is life. Anyway I came back to try and revive the fun I once had with this game. I was no longer obsessed with stats nor did I care about winning. I cared about having fun and I wanted to have fun, I wanted that thrill for this game to come back, I wanted it bad. The addiction kicked in but that fun didn't last long.
Eventually I was obsessed with having fun but that went hand-in-hand with doing well which became increasingly tough. I don't know what I considered doing well, I guess it meant a good game and since I don't have any WN8 trackers or session stats, it didn't have to do with WN8 it was arbitrary. A good game possibly meant a win where I was top 3 damage on my team (and it wasn't a ROFL-STOMP-420-BLAZING 15>0), or a loss where I was top 2 on my team and fought like hell doing x2 my tank's health in damage. In retrospect, I'll never really know. What I do know is this:
I rarely found that "fun" - and boy did I try, I tried playing this game drunk, high, tired, hyper, caffeinated, even while my GF was getting frisky, none of it worked. Well in the end I realized that my addiction to this game made me believe I could find fun in it, that things would go back to how they were, but I'm glad I realized they won't.
I had to ask why? Why wasn't I having fun anymore... and the issue is complicated but it has to do with the team-gameplay, there is none. Compile that with well.... not so good players and it leads to a really poor gaming experience. I compared WoT to other games that have "teams" but you can be alone and do well, BF4 and CoD and even MMORPG PvP. What I came to realize is that in these games, your team can do everything wrong but you can still do well yourself, because your character / toon / player isn't dependent on a team other than to win. In WoT it is different, your team goes all one way, they get surrounded, team wipes in 6mins, leaving YOU personally with a bad game because you couldn't stop the horde masses. Only using one example, but we all have TONS of them. Granted many may have different opinions but this one is mine and honestly it fits really well. I never raged as hard as I have in WoT.
Eventually this rage and dissatisfaction caught up with me. Had a panic attack because of my company and things going not so well. Granted, this isn't WoT's fault no, it is mine for thinking WoT could have been my refuge, my addiction lead me to believe fun was around the corner, but it never came. So for my health reasons, my stress counselor advised I shouldn't be playing games which provoke negative "responses" and the only one that fits the bill is ...... WoT.
With all that being said... I am definitely leaving WoT behind, I do love this game, but it is like a bad relationship, love/hate all the time. The HD models are hard to let go, the E50 is hard to let go, the STA-1 is hard to let go, but I must do it for my health.
Final words: Play this game because it is fun, no other exception. Arty needs to be changed somehow... not OP, but broken. Fly British Airways, they are pretty awesome, gorgeous flight attendants!
Also support Anfield on twitch, great streamer and his stream has helped me from a greenie to a blueberry by just watching him, his positioning, his tenacity and honestly because he enjoys the game and watching that alone is pretty awesome, I miss seeing that in myself.
