    AW is ok but......
I hate the fucking Rockets.  At low tiers these things are worse than derps in WOT. I had a 8k+ damage game in my BMP or BMP 2, can't remember. Was my swingfire. AFV's are seriously broken. The fox is just fucking nutz. I just keep out of vision range and blap the fuck out of the enemy. I carried one game by doing this against 6 MBT's on my own. They couldn't catch or see me, so the 3 left tried to cap and I just picked them off from distance one by one. Brings me to the vision game. Like early WOT it is broken. Once you learn which tanks can abuse this brokeness. you basically win all the time. Certain bushes in Certain tanks on Certain maps on Certain sides and you are guaranteed a win every time. You get to that bush and the game is over for the enemy team. Watching the poor enemy MBT's getting obliterated by rockets game after game just gets fucking boring real quick. If I venture out in my own MBT's or god forbid light tank I can expect the same thing. Steam rolls happen more than WOT. The tanks are twice as fast the shitlords can now die twice as fast. It is like the teams are made of sub 1k players driving hellcats. Certain tanks, ie terminator and expeditionary in particular look like they are out of a startrek movie.  As others have mentioned the game does feel sluggish like you are driving through jello or something. THAT FUCKING SHOT DELAY! FIX THAT FUCKING SHOT DELAY ALREADY. worse for me because I am playing from Australia. Having said all that what I am finding after making myself play AW (trying to break WOT's hold and as garbad said am playing it to hurt WG in the pocket, so they fix their fucking game)
After playing AW for a while and then jumping back into WOT I find my blood pressure rises. I start to feel stressed in WOT after a nice laid back session in AW. It could be because I run XVM and I can see just how shit the players around me are. I don't platoon, I have never platooned and I expect my stats have capped an I have reached my peak. For me to go any further I would need to platoon and at this stage I feel that is a cop out.
I find myself drifting back into AW and the things I mentioned above don't seem to matter as much. Every time I do this WOT seems to drop further and further out of my consciousness. I like this. I am thinking You guys out there that feel like you are addicted to WOT could use AW to break that addiction.
I am finding unlike WOT where I felt I had to keep grinding, keep playing... With AW I can just turn it off whenever I want. The premium time is cheaper, so if it ticks over a few days without me playing no problem. I feel there is no real imperative to grind all the way to tier 8. If shit in PVP gets annoying (shitlord teams) then I just go grind out reputation (xp) in PVE. Everything just feels so laid back and casual at the moment and that is real refreshing.
The biggest mistake I made with AW is buying the premium tanks and trying to grind out shitloads of credits before doing anything else. I basically went kewei method without meaning to. Now I realise that credits are not a problem at all and all i did was play 50 or so games at 30% WR because I had no idea what I was doing. Ground out 10 million+ credits though. What I should have been doing is grinding out reputation in PVE mode. Getting an idea for how things work and then moved into PVP mode.

Really, could you even play this game in a way that isn't sort of padding? And not be an idiot, I mean. Let's seriously look at everything you can do compared to the average player that will improve your results:
Save up free XP/buy free XP to skip some module grinds. As above, skip ALL module grinds. Use free XP to skip shit tanks entirely. Always use decent crews. Always use good crews. Always use amazing crews by transferring only a single crew on each line. Use some gold ammo. Use more gold ammo. USE ALL TEH GOLD AMMOZ!!!111 Use expensive kits for the minor bonuses. Use food. Get premium account to speed everything up. Play more "padding" tanks. Play way more "padding" tanks. Never play a non "paddable" tank. Never play anything but the most OP-as-fuck "paddable" tanks. Platoon more to pad WR. Platoon with better players. Never play the game unless you're whoring it up triple purps, dawg *cue sound of hydraulic suspension*. Play lower tiers to pad WR. Play the same tank during sessions to keep in sync with it. Play nothing BUT a single tank so you know it like the back of your hand. Stick to the same tier during play sessions to keep in sync with the tier. Never play anything but the same tier. Buy every stupid pimp out for your rides before touching them (camo, equipment, soon to be inscriptions, etc.). Get a PC capable of solid framerate instead of playing on some hand me down shitter laptop your grandpa gave you like half the pubs do. Get a decent mouse instead of trackpadding dat shit up or using the mouse you stole off your manager's PC at Burger Hut like half the pubs do. use all teh clan hax rerport for haxxing reported enjoy ur ban ther is no wa u saw me in bushes But seriously, there's no way shit like laser sights wouldn't bump stats. ETC ETC ETC +SHIT I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF I do like half to two thirds of that shit not because I'm trying to pad, but because I would lose my mind trying to play like the average pub plays, rolling shit-ass tanks to dat 49 luck WR. Thing is, as shitty as this game can be at times I can't blame any one for just saying "fuck it" and abusing virtually every conceivable advantage. A good chunk of stats really is just trying to give yourself the best chance of succeeding, I'd like to see any one with any level of skill pwn teh noobs in a stock KV-4 with 5 APCR rounds.

I have enjoyed my time in AW so far. I won't stop playing WoT for CW/SH though. I just won't play as much  Single greatest thing AW did right was the PVE IMHO. Being able to grind out your tank upgrades and then PVP is simply good game design.

Imagine yourself -- a tank lover, who enjoys playing video games.  You stumble across a fun, realistic tank game.  You instantly sink hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours into it.  Being the skilled gamer you are, you know you dominate. There is only one problem.  The developers cheat.  They deliberately programmed the game to make certain people always unlucky.  Despite your skill, you are one of those unlucky people who always gets bad teams and bad RNG, and thus, can never get the good stats you deserve.  Worse, the community bullies and mocks you for "sucking," even though its not your fault.  You endure this for years, silently growing ulcers.
Then one day, to your joy, you find another, similar tank game!  Its much like the first, except you won't be cursed.  You happily throw hundreds of dollars at it, begin to play...and then find out a SECOND set of developers programmed the game to deliberately curse certain people, and once again you were chosen.  Think of how angry you would be.  Its just not fair.  Why are they out to get you?  Fuck internet tank games.  Time to poast on the forums.
Welcome to life as a shitlord.

Just to chime in on the Tirpitz, I specifically didn't buy it because of the cost/bundle. I wanted only the ship, not a forced bundle. 5 bucks less and just the ship and I would have bought it. I was bothered by the bundle enough to pass on it.
The possibility that the game would die based on a small playerbase was also an issue that prevents me from sinking 60+ bucks in one shot on it.

    Paaranoja,
One thing you are failing to account for in your marketing is customer service when you make your comparisons.
The western world has nailed down customer service pretty hard. In fact, where I live (Las Vegas), we call it the Service Industry (Any job that makes tips, tokes, or services customers). I love WoT, despite being a shitter that can't compensate for a team full of shittier shitters, but AW seems to be, so far, being much more customer oriented than WoT was early on and, in some respects, even today.
Same thing with overpriced iPhone. The Apple pros, or whatever the name is for the employees that fix your shit there, provide a level of service that you don't get with Motorola, HTC, etc. Apple doesn't let carriers dictate to them what goes on their phone while every other manufacturer of phones, exception of the Google Branded Nexus line, allows bloatware. People pay extra for the service and protection from their cellular carriers. You're using a very superficial look at economics and markets to make your point and I'm touching on one very small area that heavily influences customer choice.
I don't own an iPhone btw, but I understand the role of Apple in the market. It's just an easy item that you've used to help explain it.
Capitalism used to be something the western world excelled at. Unfortunately, it wasn't a secret or magical formula that consumers help determine value. The difficulty is in the company 'helping' the customer see that value eg. Beats by Dre. Currently I work for a very large online retailer and you would not be surprised at how many Beats get returned. It's a shitty product given it's value by pop culture. The eastern world has gotten much better at playing Capitalism, but it's yet to make progress in customer service.

One 'problem' of WoT is the rush to high tiers and the current 'damage and kills centric' metric to skill. My understanding was that low tiers are still quite playable in WoWS because of the game structure and that there isn't a whole lot of finger pointing at reds yet. I'd like some DD experience based on spotting too so I can run around undetected screening.
So, adding tier 1-6 national ships sounds like a pretty good fukn idea to me broski because we aren't yet fully penalized here for not averaging high damage per game with the current metric out that's kinda half-assed so far due to the lack of complete data available to metric makers.
As an aside, being a veteran of the US armed forces, it's ultimately enjoyable to me to see all of the ships/tanks/etc that I never needed to know about while serving. Since I'm not a vehicle afficianado, my exposure to foreign vehicles/ships is really through WG titles. That means bring on the Polish ships I've never heard of. There's a modern Greek Navy that has to have it's roots somewhere , and many countries that have variants that I would like to learn about while playing them. My vehicle silhouette cards were based on USSR tanks/IFVs so I knew what to shoot, and I never needed to really learn about allied vehicles.
Bring on ships of all nations ships and give me a reason to keep playing tier 1-4 please. Any added ships, even with minor stat differences, are welcome.

Like I said, intern probably did his job better than expected. These kind of projects tend to come out of internal tinkering that went well rather than concerted design choices. Hell, the company I work for has multi-million pound product lines that came out of that kind of thing.
The ships are new and are definitely different to what we have (the Grom class goes 39 knots, has 7 guns and 6 torps). Being salty about it is stupid.

It's there, and every player should be able to use it at their own discretion without being criticized for it by nit pickers. Some players are just bad at hockey and need to do this to stay competitive. It's critical to their ability to play.
Besides, historically, people fought with sticks. Possibly on frozen lakes. So it should be clear to everyone why this should be a natural part of the game.

The difference is entirely down to server population.

In WoT, a triple purple platoon can run all night and manage 70%+ WRs with no issues. However, even though they're winning all the time, they also facing entirely different teams most of the time. The server population of WoT is high enough that a triple purple platoon running 8s is unlikely to play with the exact same pool of players over the course of 3 hours.

In WoWP, the population is so low that not only will the triple purple platoon be facing the EXACT same set of players over ALL their matches, they will often be doing so against pools of players under 15 in total. The WoT NA population in particular has simply not hit the point where gaming the MM is not going to result in almost EVERYONE else in a 2-tier range of the platoon being given a 90%+ chance to lose.

Can you honestly tell me, Viktor, that you would play WoT for more than a few matches if you KNEW that EVERY single match you were about to play in your tier 6/7/8 vehicle would:
Be matches with less than 20 players total Face you against the EXACT same players And face you against the EXACT same triple-purple platoon that you KNOW have been steam-rolling EVERY game they're in through a combination of Being good at the game AND Gaming MM to ensure that their platoon of 3 Tier 8s faces off against 1 opposing Tier 8 at most If the answer is Yes then I think you're either lying or a masochist :-)

I know this may be a lot to ask, but is there a chance of getting this forum split with some sub forums?
For example, tonks has sub forums for nations so that each nations vehicles can be discussed, and has a core mechanics sub forum.
I played two games last night and I literally have no idea what I'm doing. There are many others, Deus, Tedster, and Assassin7 to name a few that I have name recognition for, that seem to have a lot of experience with this game and know the mechanics pretty well and it would be nice to see a comprehensive breakdown of this game so people can:
    A) Figure out what ships they really want to play (Carriers appear to have no interest for me due to the micromanaging required, but I could be, and frequently am, wrong)
    B) Have a better working knowledge of the game so they don't splat-turd their way through it. There seems to be a lot to this game from deciding whether to try and set fires or use ap rounds to knowing what your actual role is and what spacing to keep from other ships.
I understand that there is probably a lot of stuff here in the forum, but it would be nice to organize it and now, since it's Open Beta, the people from CBT can really share the info they have instead of alluding to it.

If you can't let scouts, well, scout, then remove the IFV. It should be completely useless otherwise. Unless they are going to get a mortar on the back.

Scout tanks in WoT also get good guns for the most part. The AMX series in particular comes to mind with clipping and clean up and the new scouts with power creep are just abominable.

A scout tank should be almost ineffective at damaging, but get it's experience from lighting tanks. My personal experience in the battles was that I could be extremely useful as a scout tank by lighting and backing, lighting and backing. I like the tank having that clearly defined role. I'm happy if they knock it's damage off to next to nothing except against light tanks. In fact, getting to provide vision control, while not doing large amounts of damage, is what makes scout play rewarding. It's like playing a medic in Battlefield. Sometimes you get to machine gun people, but you get to enjoy playing support because it's rewarded well.

I'm of a different opinion. IDGAF about the 'solo carry'. Yes, I want to do extremely well, but I'd also like to feel like part of a team. I've got 10 FPS's installed that I can go feel like a commando in, in tanks I want to feel part of a team. You know, kind of how it really is on the battlefield? Online gaming, in my opinion, really shines when played with others and not just 1 against 29.

Marginalizing the scout tank role just means that you think it should be removed because the only options so far is to hit it with a vision nerf bat so hard it's useless and just something to feel pain in at tier 1-3. I, also, was shredded by invisi-tanks. I get it. First battle in the M60 I took a forward position, thinking my scouts would actually do something, and they shit the bed preferring to sit long range and act like asshats letting me lose the vision game. It's frustrating, but I moved to the next battle and then finished Splinter Cell: Blacklist when I got frustrated.

I suppose the maps could be exponentially larger giving scouts something to do, but I doubt anyone wants to play a 30 minute match while scouts find enemy positions, arty fires for effect, and tanks respond to the map as the battlefield unfolds.

Invisitanks and vision has always been an issue in WoT. The team providing better vision control tends to win. You learned to abuse your pubbies in WoT, you'll do the same in AW.

Burtak reacted to Terrachova in So I've been having internet speed issues...
To preface, this isn't a topic looking for help, but a brief story of my triumph.  Sort of.

So, recently, I went from 28/1 Cable to 100/10.  Pricey Cisco modem, but it should be worth it - I couldn't stand the weakness of the old.  Upgrade process took time, but it eventually finished, around when the provider was having some downtime.  Fine.  I gave it a fe days... and when all was well, tested my internet.

Speedtest reported 25/1 average.  That's no good.  I reset the new modem a few times (it's a 4 port router and wireless router built in, DCP3848 if I'm remembering correctly), to no avail.  Finally, I called tech support (Teksavvy's my provider, in Ontario).  Got a truly awesome guy on the line - we shot the shit, talked about games and such while waiting for processes.  We tested the modem, flipped it to bridge mode (and reset it entirely), and then went to test the internet in safe mode.

It worked perfectly.  ~100/10 in safe mode.  Huh.  Not sure why I never bothered to test in safe mode - I'm computer literate, but by no means an expert.  Fortunately, the modem was fine.  Unfortunately, he could help me no further, save for definitely not recommending a course of action and better antivirus than avast/etc.  He couldn't, you see, for legality and liability reasons, so I definitely didn't take any notes lest I cause my computer to melt by stupidly following his advice.

Fortunately, my computer's not infected with anything.  Unfortunately, I still couldn't get my good internet in normal mode.  Still stuck at 25/1.  What the fuck.
So I went to google.  Google told me to update my LAN driver, if it was out of date.  I checked that, and any other drivers... I'm all good.  I was stumped.  Couldn't find an answer that applied.

I'm not sure what led me to this, or why I checked it, but I noticed that my network card had a little network manager software with it that ran in the background.  It never really did anything other than monitor, and I'd used it in the past to check network usage.  I checked around... all was normal.  Then I noticed something: this bit of network software has a little section titled Internet Provider speed.  Two boxes for Upload and Download that can be adjusted, along with a Status and a test button.  Test button takes me to speedtest, but it doesn't work because it uses the software's internal browser and doesn't communicate with java.  Right now, the numbers for Up/Down were set to 0.9/25.  That seems right, that's what it has been testing at.  Right?

    ...right?

It's about here that I realized... I can change these numbers.  They're not connected to the test bit, because that doesn't work.  I could remember setting those numbers myself, based on a test run in my actual browser.  On a whim, I set them to 10/100 for Up/Down.  What could it hurt?

    It fucking worked.

For some stupid, dumbass reason, this bit of software has a function that can limit my internet speed, and I'd set it to roughly the limit I was getting before, without realizing this would limit it in the future.  A single, simple little setting annoyed me for two weeks, and sent me on a damn witch-hunt.

And here I am sitting here, head in hands, laughing and crying because of how stupidly simple this was.  It's humbling, in a way.  A reminder that I'm not as technically proficient as I might like to be, but also that sometimes... the answer can be the most innocuous thing.

If you don't want boring maps with lanes, you're going to have to deal with not having omnivision because that's just how PvP games work. Find alternate routes to the areas you're going to and try not to forget that outside your left-clicking ability, you don't really know much more than the average pubbie yet. At this point in time, dealing with failure is common and you just have to hammer out some routes through trial and error, just like we had to do in WoT back in the day.

Well, you have to remember a couple of things about both AW and WoT: The type of MM both games have means that tiering becomes an issue in the early days and WoT was very much the same both in beta and after launch. WG foolishly tried to cover it up with fucking +3 and +4 MM spread and pretend it was working as intended, until they got the numbers to fix that shit. AW doesn't increase the MM spread, so it can be pretty harsh as a lower tier player until a lot more people have unlocked various tanks. As for the community, AW was the first place all the special snowflakes from WoT ran off to: A safe haven where XVM doesn't exist and you couldn't be called a baddie because the game wasn't playable. They are all tactical geniuses right up until now, where their shitty abilities are revealed once more and it's the game's fault. Finally, blowouts are very common early in the lifespan of games like these because it's a matter of lemming efficiency: If one team pushes correctly, the other team folds because nobody knows where to go to counter the push. Same shit happened in WoT, hence why the phrase "lemming train" exists.

If AW did it right (by including several colour-blind modes for various common types of colour-blindness... or even just making the icon colours player-choice) there should be no reason for mods. However you should have expected the neg-bombing for daring to speak the truth...

I said it once on the AW forums and I'll say it again here: mods are bad for the game.
There is absolutely NO argument that can be made for "perfectly legal mods" not giving an unfair advantage to the user, specifically the maximum render distance square and the max (as well as your current) view range and the last-known location of enemy tanks as well as which ones have been spotted already.
Your average Joe running vanilla WoT playing versus your average Joe running view-range mods? It's not even a competition. The latter player will know precisely where he can become spotted and dance outside of that spotting range, while also utilizing the maximum render distance to shoot enemies spotted by your allies without them ever having a chance. The other dude? Well he's going to have to run through trial-and-error techniques to approximate where he can get spotted and where he can't, costing him HP or possibly sending him back to the garage.
I remember quite well when I was a noob at WoT, I used to get very angry at "disappearing tanks" that would drive right outside of my render distance as I was shooting at them. I never claimed any cheating was going on; rather I decided to learn the mechanics more in-depth to understand the spotting system. And now after all these years, it is evident that the spotting system is one of the most important elements in the game, and any spotting-mechanics advantage that a mod gives should be outright banned if Wargaming cares at all about playing on equal footing. Of course as we all know, they don't give a flying fuck, but I sure hope that Obsidian Entertainment will, and this 100% ban on all mods is a very proper stance in my opinion.

Bads will exist everywhere.  Remember, something like 80% of WoT players can't manage to win half of their games.  AW will be no different.  AW might soften the blow, however.  If the PVE/CO-OP modes are any good, it will give the bads something to do other than shitting up public matches.  Hell, it may even give goods something to do when they want to escape the tomato patch.

If you're expecting AW to somehow eliminate the baddies, you're going to have a bad time.  Shitters have existed in every game, and will continue to exist in every game.  Such is the case when the country that games the most is #1 in confidence but #27 in education.

Best case scenario is really this:  AW is fun enough to make life amongst the pubbies tolerable.

To be perfectly honest, I don't give a rats ass about recent. If you show at least some close to a decent overall (1400+), solid damage numbers and winrates in your t10's (at least a shot or two above HP and above 54%w/r), and exhibit teamplay tactics, you will easily be greenlighted for our recruitment process.
