Italian yes. European/Asain? depends. the old staple peppers onions rice thing is easy to come by. Certain sauces can be found in major chain stores. umm.... if you can't find what your looking for try where the Mexican food section is. They might put it by there. Sometimes you may find a niche store here or there, but for the most part nope. lol. For the most part you will be eating the Americanized diet by where your living. It's good. (biased opinion of resident) LOL
Taxes here are weird. Really weird. Whomever the dum dum is that thought that system up was either an insurance agent or a rocket scientist. Most of the time my paycheck deductions are so much to the point that on tax day the tax collector pays ME money.... last time I checked the sheriff of Nottingham wasn't throwing money at people randomly...
I don't think that is how that is supposed to work.

The only food item I've really missed in the US is decent bread. Otherwise, the general food selection in a walmart was close enough to a German supermarket. I guess you'll probably have to resort to ordering regional specialties online unless the region has a sizeable population from that area.

We're not an Arabic country, that's probably the biggest change.

German living in US of A here. Been here 15+ years.
Get used to shitty service and incompetency where you were used to good service (bank tellers, pharmacy, car repair etc) in exchange for being able to go grocery shopping pretty much any time it damn well pleases you vs. German idiotic Oeffnungszeiten.
Get used to a much larger spread of incomes and wealth vs. Germany (more rich, more poor) and all that entails.
Many things that are expensive in Germany feel more affordable in US (cars, electronics, food etc) b/c of relatively higher wages and lower taxes.
Get used to a much larger spread of general education and international awareness. Generally, education and interest is much more local focused and less aware of what is happening internationally. But that can range from zero awareness to full on expertise to a much greater degree than in Schland. Also, news on TV etc is infotainment and not serious news are typical back home. Read German/European news online if you really want to know what is going on.
Dating works different too - at least compared to when I was young in Germany. Different relative perceptions of importance of the various bases etc.
People dress very differently here. In Germany you spend a much larger % of income on looking sharp plus everyone wants to buy shit that advertises they spent real money (big brands and logos all over), whereas in US people pay far less attention to their everyday clothes even at higher income levels. Hoochimama dressing up for weekends more similar to Schland though.
More religion here. Far less understanding or acceptance of athesists. Tread gently.
Food: you can get evertyhing you need in bigger cities - and except for produce u can order online. In fact, you have much better access to interesting food than back home if you live in one of the larger 20 cities or so.

From my experience, people in the US are much more outgoing than they are in Germany - so making friends quickly shouldn't really be a problem. Once you've said something they'll know you grew up in a different place, and college students are usually smart enough to account for that when it comes to little quirks and weird habits. If you're trying your best to be friendly, they'll pick up on it , don't worry. In addition to that, a relative or local friend willing to chaperone you during everyday stuff for the first week or so really helps a ton in my experience. It always helps if there's somebody to patiently explain the little weird things.
Other than that, when I visited my relatives in Texas for the first time, I noticed that people tend to criticize other people more indirectly: "X doesn't look good on you" in German tends to translate to something like "You look great but have you tried wearing x with that instead?". Also, at least from my experience, there is a wider socially acceptable scale of expressed happiness. "OH EM GEE! This is the best gift ever! Thank you, you're awesome. Oh wow, I've always wanted this" tends to be on the same level as "Thank you very much, this is a wonderful present!". People might think you don't appreciate their gift/invitation/whatever if you don't thank them more intensely than would be expected in Germany. It's not really a big problem but it helps to be aware of these differences beforehand. And read a guide on how to deal with the police and a tourist's guide to US law. From what I remember, there tend to be a lot less reglimentations but if you actually break the law you'll usually get punished more harshly than you would for a similar infraction in Germany.
Non-social stuff that seemed weird to me for the first week or so: Taxes are added at the register, so things aren't as cheap as they seem in quite a lot of situations. People considered it acceptable to put plastic covers over their furniture for everyday use.

Kansas! alright! Kind of the middle of nowhere relatively speaking. Was hoping for some place closer to the coast but that will work! the heartland of the midwest/south! I hope you like to eat. Lots of good southern food your going to try. Also it would help to learn how to drive. Your going to be doing that to commute anywhere on your own. And try to get the German accent at least somewhat lol. The girls there will flip out. For real.
Big trucks, guns, huntin, and fishin is what you'll be up to. and internet tanks of course haha. And as for college, I can almost guarantee you will be one of the best educated out there walking on that campus... our public edu system leaves a bit to be desired compared to yours to be blunt.
Oh and if im not mistaken on my geography your really close to Kansas city, and you will find some of the best American BBQ in the NATION in that place. Steak, Ribs, Chops, oh man. now I'm hungry HAHA.

    I'm a lazy bastard too
    Translation:
Laci knows that he doesn't need to go into the Emergency Room for every small little bullshit problem. If he has a fever, he takes fever-reducing medicine. If something hurts, he takes painkillers. If he has a panic attack, he makes sure he keeps it between the four walls that make up his home. If he has a four week-old complaint, he never goes to the ER, instead, he gets the hell out and goes to his house doctor, because Laci isn't a giant sniveling shithead.
    Be smart.
    Be like Laci.
It's hard to translate Hungarian cursing, it's so much more colorful than the English counterparts
