Birkovic got a reaction from map381 in The WoWS carry and carry Fail Thread
I don't know where to put this, so I went here. I just want to thank all of you, which provided advice and help for a novice to improve at this game. Currently I'm grinding the Benson and Bismarck, which could see me pass the magic 1400 WTR overall just before crossing the 1k games milestone.
Considering I've only played solo so far, I would argue that I now carry my own weight in the teams, which makes the game very enjoyable for me.
    Thank you o7

Birkovic reacted to Frenzier in Epic arty shots (pre 9.18) 2h+
Over the last 65 days i uploaded everyday my best shots with arty as i attempted to 3 mark as many as i could before patch 9.18 hit, its a total of 2h7m, in the process i 3 marked all german arty, tier 5 to 8 russian and last one on last day CGC.
So if you happen to enjoy witnessing some epic arty shots, you will find inside stuff like a full hp maus going to garage with 1 clip from a bat chat arty(no fire or ammo rack), a full HP IS-4 going to garage with a single shot from a tier 7 arty(+ a bit of fire) and a grille(tier 5 arty) penetrating a T34 at 800m on the turret in "arty safe" locations among other tier 8 heavys... 99% of the shots are with HE.
I will continue to play arty, main focus 3 marks atm. I stream hopefully everyday here https://www.twitch.tv/frenzierr

In the end this isn't a hard choice. If you're grinding the ship and don't want to respec just use the standard Japanese cruiser build. It won't be optimal but it'll work. If you're keeping the ship use an IFHE build.

Not sure, maybe. It wasn't a great grind with stealth fire. Without SF and without IFHE it might be a bit rough.

Birkovic reacted to Mesrith in HMS Hood coming
I'm pretty tired of the cycle of:
Ship is leaked, everyone claims amazeballs status based on paper stats. Ship goes into early testing, it's inevitably awesome. Ship makes it out the Community Contributors, and the ship is suddenly hot garbage, because outrage over hot garbage drives more clicks and views. Forum community goes into uproar about how this iconic ship (they're all iconic, apparently) should never be anything less than top of the line.  All prior SuperTesting is apparently disregarded, Wargaming appears to bow before community sentiment, and the ship gets buffed before it sets sail. Community Contributors fawn over how awesome the ships is now, and by the way, everybody should absolutely buy this ship right away. I'd be ok with a few premiums coming out that aren't immediately at the top of their peer list for damage and win rate, otherwise known as "properly balanced".  Even if that means I occasionally pass on a premium like Hood.

AFT will be useful at all tiers, assuming you're pushing to the top of the line.  IMO it's the only 4-pointer that's usually worth it for Russian destroyers.

Things like that make me soo salty.
Some potato: "I'll just ram that tier 6 in my 70 % HP Amagi." Then later: "Don't be a dick Birkovic. It's just a game and I can do what I like." I hate playing with the crowd.

You guys are all selfish dickbags. I 'm such a strong team player that I steer myself into every torpedo I see so I know they wont be able to hit my teammates.

It's almost always more valuable to stay alive and continue contributing in some way.  The moment your ship sinks, you've lost all ability to impact the win/loss from there, and you've put it in the hands of your remaining teammates.  The odds are that they'll be terrible, so you don't want the game in their hands.
The only time it's worth it to sacrifice yourself is if you're making a strategic trade with an enemy ship.  If you're likely to die anyway, and your sacrifice gives your remaining team a big advantage like eliminating the last enemy destroyer or taking out a full health battleship, then it may be worth it.

Yep, my build is pretty much the same as @map381. Only thing I do differently is take Expert Marksman over Jack of All Trades on my GK. One annoying thing about the GK is its turrets get incapacitated quite easily, so Preventative Maintenance isn't a bad option either for a one point skill.

We had a disk drive crash / corruption / etc. on the WOWS EU database. We have recovered, but while we were down data were not collected. It should gradually return to normal business.
    Apologies for the inconvenience.

Nah this is from either perspective. The other options are not particularly strong. You have a range module (basically worthless because the dispersion is bad), secondary mod (not great unless you're secondary spec, and why on an NC clone?), main battery rotation (lolwhy) and AA range. Only one of those is really worthwhile. Your opportunity cost is negligible since the only thing you might get some mileage out of is the secondary module. The secondary battery is unimpressive on the Alabama while the AA is reasonable. Buffing one of your stronger characteristics means that when you do see a carrier you'll see a real, tangible benefit.
Most module decisions come down to this kind of cost-benefit analysis: How often am I going to see the scenario this is designed for, how impactful will my choice be in that scenario. Since you have no high impact, high occurrence situations then you have to choose between the high impact, low occurrence situation or the low impact, high occurrence situation (although in my view the secondary battery is more low impact, medium occurrence which is why I don't recommend it).

This is both my experience and my stats from Leander so far. Solid ship but doesn't carry well. It's also very frustrating to ricochet off destroyers

If a DD has smoked himself in a position where you can't torp him, can't close to radar or hydro him, is moving too much to blind shoot, has consistent spotting and can prevent you from escaping his fire then he has both out positioned you and his team are playing better than yours is. You're on WoTLabs, not the official forum. Learn to deal with it.

Birkovic got a reaction from SmirkingGerbil in Which WoWs Ship classes do you play the best?
@SmirkingGerbil to elaborate a bit, back in 2016 WG changed the MM, making tier 4 and below protected by introducing +/-1 MM for them. This resulted in tier 5 no longer seeing tier 3s, while still seeing tier 6s and 7s. Thus tier 5s more often get pulled into brackets above their own then other ships. Virtually no tier 5 is truely competetive versus the better tier 7s like the Scharnhorst mentioned above.
On the other hand a lot of players seem to report, that they are very often top tier, while playing tier 7s, and that a number of tier 7s are very powerfull ships (Scharn, Belfast, Fiji etc.). Not seeing tier 10s, avoiding the static tier 10 gameplay, while being able to making decent silver in the premiums further adds to the current popularity of the tier.
These are just my observations from forums, which reflect my own experiences. I'm sure that some of the more knowledgeable players will be able to expand further if needed.

To be honest if you want to stay in a tier going for tier 4 or 7 will yield you a lot more comfortable games if you just want to chill and not grind further.

I haven't seen any data mining or such to confirm it, but according to the general consensus on Reddit etc., the Sims has some kind of abnormal XP multiplier.

Hydro should suffice for torpedo protection.
If you're moving the commander further up the line, you're going to want AFT/BFT for Neptune and Minotaur.  Manual AA is arguably worth it for Neptune, but it's not for Minotaur, so I've gone AFT the whole line.

Birkovic reacted to RollerCoaster47 in Starting the IJN Line - Tips please!
No, it isn't. In Japanese destroyers, your torpedoes are your biggest asset and you should be using skills that boost them even more. Torpedo armament expertise is a must, along with adrenaline rush too since it will reduce your torpedo reload even more once you've taken damage. For instance, once you've lost 50% of your HP, your torpedo reload is reduced by another 10%.

So you think Preventative Maintenance is just for your engine and steering gears? Absolutely not. The biggest use for it and the main reason you take it on Japanese destroyers is to reduce the chance of your torpedo tubes being knocked out. And as I mentioned above, Japanese destroyers are not primarily gunboats, therefore buffing the guns before buffing the torpedoes is a mistake.
The only Japanese destroyer where you boost the guns over the torpedoes is the Akizuki.
