WG has a tough task here. Either they make these lights fun for the everyman, which becomes godmode for the good players, or they make them frustrating for the everyman and fun for the good players. It seems like either way the average player is frustrated.

Just to remind everyone, these aren't T10 scouts, they're T10 LTs. WG's new vision of LTs are "fast, fragile mediums". Don't be that surprised about not having absurd view range/camo.

Matross reacted to tajj7 in What light tanks to rebuy to prepare for 9.18 changes
IMO based on the last Sandbox versions.
    Tier 10s -
T-100 - still super low profile, still very fast, still has the best camo, still has the troll armour. Gun is disappointing all round, poor premium round, bad DPM, poor accuracy though seems to have good dispersion.
Sheridan - went from the worst tier 10 light to one of the better ones, got DPM, view range and hp/ton buff, also aim time buff so probably as the best gun of the tier 10 lights.
WZ-132-1 - Best all rounder, got a decent solid gun, good camo, good view range and potentially bouncy turret. Basically like a T-54 ltw with better handling on tier 10.
The AMX-13-105 is better but still inferior to the Bat Chat IMO, the Rhm will be decent but is big and paper, plus lost it's view range advantage (had 440m on first test) and got nasty DPM nerf (like over 9s reload for 390 alpha). The Sherdians 105mm is just better, it has the same view range, similar hp/ton and -10 gun depression so only really loses out in top speed and camo.
    Tier 9s -
T49, without the derp, something like 2.7-2.8k base DPM with the 90mm, you can get it maxed out to a sub 4.5s reload for 240 damage. Has -10 gun depression all round unlike RU, is about as fast as the RU, and has 212mm pen APCR standard rounds with very good shell velocity rather than the RU's potato launcher.  Matches RU for view range, obviously has the worse camo.
WZ-132A - Basically a hyper mobile T-54 with paper armour, more penetration, more camo and more view range. Though no magic HEAT round. A pretty fun tank, especially if good tier 9 MM continues.
RU seems like a worse T49 now IMO, 13-90 is way better than it was but still a bit sub par and you might as well use a Skoda T50 or Bat Chat AP.  T-54 ltw barely got changed, though I hear it has insane dispersion values, but considering all the other lights got substantial buffs moving to regular tier 9 tanks and it still has that 235 pen APCR round I wouldn't rate it.
    Tier 8s.
Didn't manage to play all these, but WZ-132 is barely changed from what it is now, except it's basically getting regular tier 8 MM and is getting more DPM and more hp/ton than it currently has.
And the Bulldog now is has it's autoloader back, as it's getting an HP buff, and hp/ton buff. Plus the single shot gun is back being viable (if it is the same as Sandbox) with like 2.8k base DPM, very good gun handling and 170 alpha rather than the 150 it currently has.

I platooned with capt-jay, and he does pretty much everything you ask for, and then some (sometimes over commits or does rush a shot, and doesn't get the kill in when it's critical). He's one of the better toonmates you can ask for. He can take the criticism as well, so you're not going to hurt him. Also, Capt is one of the nicest people you can toon with, will gladly rotate shots and share HP.

It probably comes down to retaining the things he learned part, possibly, information overload. Capt, pick a tank class, and select a few tanks that are similar, and get it down pat, and then try another group of tanks. I have trouble when I go between heavies, lights, and mediums... I just get angry and play arty -.-"
Also, in terms of rushing shots, when I toon with @DirtyACE7, he can't stand the 122mm guns. The 122mm guns give you the alpha, but only if you hit and pen. If that's not your thing, you have to go to the 105mm or the 100mm's. DO NOT go to 130mm (WZ-111 1-4 or IS7).

    Analyzing Purple Players
I see a lot of frustration these days from in game chat, mostly when a player sees a good player on the enemy. They look at XVM, see the WN8, look at the win percentage, then type "gg" before the timer even runs out. The problem that this creates is a negative mentality for you and your team. While it is true that a purple is statistically better, it does not guarantee that he will as well as his stats say in any given match. In this article, I will explore how purples tend to play, and give average players tips on how to play with/against better players.
    Characteristics of a Purple
First, let's explore the general characteristics of a purple player.
They play good tanks: Purples generally will play a tank that is good in at least one category: damage, armor, burst, mobility. Usually the tanks they drive will excel in two of these categories. So, it should be established that these tanks are formidable, and should not be taken lightly.
They excel at dealing damage: There's really only one way to achieve purple status: high damage numbers. Through good mechanics, tactics, or a combination of both, purples excel at dealing more damage than they take. Their damage ratio will usually be above 2, and really good players won't lose any health until late game.
They have good situational awareness: From my experience, players that have a strong grasp of tactics and strategy tend to be at least dark purple. They know when to relocate to avoid taking damage while also dealing better damage. They know who needs to be taken out first, and know when to use their hp to push. These players will punish you heavily for any mistakes you make.
They think that they're better than you: This is a general assumption. Statistically, this is true, but in practice, anything can happen. A lot of the time, their arrogance can cause them to make mistakes or tilt because things aren't going their way.
Purples on your team There are two kinds of purples that you will see on your team. One wants to win, the other wants to do damage. There are two philosophies among purples that I've seen on forums. The first is: focus on winning, and the damage and stats will come afterwards. The other is do a lot of damage, and the win will come from that. I won't bother arguing about these two opinions, but I'll talk about how you can cooperate with these two kinds of purples.
Support your purples just like you would any other teammate. I'm a big supporter of increased teamwork in pubs, since keeping others alive usually leads to better results. However, you shouldn't try to save anyone who has overextended and doomed themselves to die. Aggressive purples may attempt this often and then rage at their team for not following them loyally. Most of the time, their death is entirely their fault. Either they're tilted, or they couldn't read the battle correctly. It's not your responsibility to babysit a purple the whole game. After all, he is only one tank of 15. Even if he pumps out 4k damage, it still would be worse than 3 other tanks doing 2k damage each. Passive purples are the worst kind that you'll find. They'll sit where TDs sit, farm useless damage, and have terrible winrate compared to their damage per game. Consider these players equivalent to green/blue players. He won't help you, so don't bother helping him.
Purples as Enemies Probably a worse situation is when you meet a good player on the enemy team. However, don't be intimidated just by their color in XVM. While their skills should be respected, it shouldn't pressure you into making irrational moves. Even the best of players aren't immortal.
There are many different exploitable habits that purples tend to have.
They love to farm damage: Some purples get enjoyment out of the game from farming, so much so that they get antsy when they aren't able to deal damage for extended periods of time. If you lock down the firing lanes of a good player, they will become impatient and make mistakes.
They are stubborn: Some purples decide at the beginning of the game to take a certain position whether or not their team supports them. Some also refuse to fall back, then blame their team for not supporting them. As a general rule, if you know a player is isolated, whether it be a purple or red, don't hesitate to jump on it.
They think that they are better than you: Remember, a tank is a tank. All it takes for you to land a shot into him is for your gun to be loaded the moment he pokes over. Good players poke when either the enemy is not looking at them, or the enemy has just fired. If you're sitting with a couple of teammates in an alleyway, stagger your shots to keep the good player guessing your reload times. Assuming you have equal alpha, trading 1 for 1 with a better player will lower his potential carry ability in late game. Remember that purples can recognize and punish mistakes harder than average players can. So, if you're careful and consider all angles of attack, you negate the purple's ability to take advantage of you. Let him be the one to overextend and get nailed by TDs/arty, not you.
Another thing good players sometimes underestimate is the power of platoons. I cannot count how many times a platoon of top tier heavies/mediums on my opposing team has ruined my team either by blitzing early positions to prevent our team from moving from base or rolling an entire flank faster than the other can react. It's very easy to win in platoons. If you give the purple the time to find the right angles and flank shots, there's a chance they can carry. However, a fast push will effectively negate the enemy player's ability to do more damage by shortening the overall game time. Of course, don't push like idiots. Some maps require patience, like Prok. A lot of purples I speak to LOVE Prok when it has no arty. That's because they can take their time and farm the map slowly, rather than have to worry about flanks collapsing.
    Conclusion
Better players should not be feared, but treated with caution. Anyone has the capability to have a good game. Purples just happen to know how to be more consistent. Teamwork always beats a pubstar. Always. Some purples are obnoxious and rude, others are nice and friendly.

Matross reacted to kolni in Guide to 3 Marks of Excellence
goddammit forum why won't you let me spoiler -__________- mods pls fix

I decided to write something up since I haven't done it in so long. Anyway, today I hit 100 Marks of Excellence obtained (78 on my own account as of now) so I've got some experience in doing this. I'm not CarbonWard but I'll do my best to explain it.

So first off to how they actually work (somewhat): https://console.worldoftanks.com/en/content/about/game-guides/marks-of-excellence/
The formula is not released anywhere (speculation in another thread here but nothing conclusive) but the console forums did release an explanation of an EMA:

"The damage/assist damage you earn after each battle will be compared against the average for that tank across all battles from the past 14 days. If your average is higher the required percentage of the global average, you'll earn a mark! For example:
Suppose the top damage + assist damage for the IS-6 per match is 7,000 points. To get the first Mark of Excellence, you need higher than 65% of that, which would be 4,550. 85% is 5,950 and 95% is 6,650.
Remember, it's the average of damage dealt + assisted damage!
Marks of Excellence are calculated by using an EMA (Exponential Moving Average), and each tank has its own EMA. We compare your EMA against the highest average damage for all players using that same tank during the time period to determine if you qualify for a Mark.
Here are some examples of how your performance will affect your EMA. We used a 100-battle period so you can get a better idea of how your EMA will increase/decrease. Let's see how these players' performances determine how many games it takes for them to reach an EMA of 1,000.
Example 1: A player who is not very consistent; their performance is all over the place. It took them around 87 games.  Example 2: A player who is consistently putting up average Damage+Assist Damage games. It took them ~67 games.  Example 3: A player who is consistently playing high Damage+Assist Damage games. It took them ~33 games.            WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Using an EMA prevents players from earning Marks just by buying a new tank and playing one or two good games. If we allowed that to happen, Marks would have little meaning. As you can see, players start out with a low EMA and must build it up over time by performing well. The better you perform on a consistent basis, the faster your EMA will go up and the quicker you get a Mark. If you perform poorly, your EMA drops. However, poor games do not affect your EMA as much as a good game will improve it.
Depending on your skill level, at some point your EMA will be equal to your average Damage+Assist Damage. For example, if your EMA is 1,200, at 80% in the Damage Standings, and you continue to do an average Damage+Assist Damage of 1,200, your EMA and Damage standing will not increase or decrease. So if you want to get to that 85% level to earn your second MoE, you will need to start doing more than 1,200 Damage+Assist Damage in order to keep raising your score. "

^ This is all actual information published regarding the marks. And as previously debated it's weighted against an average and not against other players "good games", or "2 games removes 1 bad game" that's been mentioned a lot everywhere.
I've also done some rough testing since I've 3marked several of the same tanks (7 E 50s) and three of them were from 0 games. What I managed to gather was that the EMA seems to favour consistency over spikes in damage output. At 60 games two of the E 50s were at 87% with rougly the same damage outputs but one had 257 more spotting on average, but also a lower survival rate (higher derp ratio) which leads me to believe it's been less consistent. While a difference of 257 combined doesn't seem like much it's still simply a higher damage output per game and I can't think of anything else but consistency actually being a very relevant factor. (I don't have permission to post screenshots from the accounts played so if anyone can find someone with similar stats to yours beneath 100 games or simply test this for yourself it'd be great)

With that out of the way we can proceed to the actual 3 marking.

I won't go into how to achieve consistency because that's just extremely hard to put into words besides the vague terms as "playing safe" etc but there are things I generally do to maximize my combined outputs:
    In general:

Since my early days in WoT which would have been around mid 2015 I have heard and read about Garbad and how all-knowing he is when it comes to this game. This is especially what I have gathered from this forum but apparently that opinion is not really true or at least hasn't been for a while. What really happened? I'm guessing he had a falling out with this forum at some point?
On a side note, I'm curious to see him play again and see what he thinks about the current state of the game.

This, but only, if you know you're not going to get spotted. More shots fired is better, ONLY IF, you KNOW, you're not going to get return fire or attract a lot of attention, especially from tanks within your vicinity. Also, assume arty has a hard-on for you too.

I concur with the "skill" shell (assuming it's not HEAT, for tracks of tanks... or space armor).
