Hally got a reaction from canadiantrex in Hopefully Strict Template MM Will Die Soon
I like the new mm personally. Being bottom tier is not a big deal when half the tanks are same tier as you. Being bottom tier is a big deal when 10+ tanks on each side are 2 tiers higher; which is what my tier 8s experienced with the old mm.
Like I've said in previous posts, my tier 8s during 3 mark runs on old mm experienced over 90% battles as bottom tiers in tier 10 matches, with more than half of the matches having at least 8, often 10+ tier 10 vehicles per side.
The only people this new mm screwed over are platoons. Platoons in the old mm are far more likely to end up in a top tier position. Platoons in the current mm are almost certainly bottom tier. But I'm a solopubber so.. it benefited me xD
    ---------------
The serious old mm issue was a problem specific to NA west, and no other server (not even NA east). The server had a very low population, and was extremely top heavy in tier 10s; resulting in tier 8s and 9s being almost always drafted into tier 10 matches. A huge number of tier 10 matches were made of 8 - 10 tier 10s per side, with a handful of scouts and tier 8/9 as "fillers".
With NA server being merged, this top heavy issue probably wouldn't be nearly that bad if we are to revert to the old mm.

In udes, you can be agressive if there aren't arty, and there's hills to work with.
In 103-0, you can be aggressive there are no HE shooters, arty, 122mm+ guns, or guns with HEAT as prem ammo in front of you.

Hally got a reaction from Canadian_Reaper in How does the 183 line work these days?
Tier 5: forget the tumor; you die in 4 hits to 105 derps in the face. If you are unfortunate enough to meet arty or a KV-2/OI, you can die in 1 hit to a high roll splash. You are a slow pea shooter with no useable armor to speak of.
Tier 6: Have free exp, or you will be doing a rather long stock grind with a gun that can't pen half the light tanks with gold. Your tumor stands out like a sore thumb and renders you worse than most tier 5 TDs. The m8a1 is probably a better TD than this thing at tier 6.
Tier 7: You can work some gimmics with the pea shooter in city maps due to the off center gun as top tier, but otherwise, your armor does not stand. Forget the tumor; most t7 gold and t8 credit ammo you face can just pen you straight up from the front. On the bright side, you have the HP of a heavy tank.
Tier 8: Your front armor works... sometimes. Then the potatoes who autoaim pen you nonstop because your gun mantle (autoaim target) is just 130mm with no armor behind it. Combine it with one of the worst pea shooters for a very subpar "superheavy".
Tier 9: Tumor isn't really a weakspot; it's about as effective as the superstructure below it. Armor is function enough (partly due to the large gun arc, partly due to the large, impenetrable mantlet) to actually bounce non-premium ammo frequently. Gun packs sufficient alpha and dpm to be a real threat regardless of engagement distance. With hp that beat most heavy tanks, it's quite a decent tank.
Tier 10: You better have a lot of credits to throw away; because unless you spam the ultra expensive gold ammo, you'd be much better off staying in the tier 9.

Heresy! The 183 and 4005 are the gimmicks! Required premium shells and 1 shot rolls. The T49 is viable and useful beyond just penning shots. It's flavor to LT class, instead of being a total pox!

Hally got a reaction from SmalltalkJava in Tiger (P), how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
To use the armor.. find a wall, and stick your front out at ~35 - 45 degrees; while still hiding your hull sholder behind that wall. Better if the wall is on your left side, as you can hide your cupola behind the wall as well in that case. Even better still if there are some rubble on the ground to cover your lfp. 8 line corner on himmelsdorf south spawn is a good example of the positions you want to be at.

Hrmm... research the sherridan, but don't buy it. You get to enjoy the glorious process of getting there called the T49.

Get a good crew and play vision; the tank has enough camo value and base VR to do so. If your have a poor crew, or don't have the top gun yet.. then ya.. you are gonna suffer.. a lot. This is one of those tanks that improve vastly with crew skills.

Hally reacted to Fabunil in What is 2x overmatch?
2x Overmatches are important in 3 cases:
    1. You 3x overmatch your target but otherwise wouldn't have enough penetration to punch through the armor (as Haswell mentioned, 3x Overmatch simply means that you won't riccochet, NOT that you will atomatically penetrate)
For example 40mm of armor angled at 85° will have ~230 EFA against AP-rounds (angle gets normalized by 5 degrees) before the normalization from 2x overmatching is taken into account, this is why the standard 122mm Idiot-gun is penetrate anyway.

    2. You don't have enough penetration to penetrate at an angle below 70°, yet still have a high enough calibre so that 2x overmatching applies (this only applies to low tier derpguns, most notably the trash 105mm AP round which only gets 64mm penetration)
For example 40mm of armor angled at 65 degrees will have 80mm of EFA (with 5 ° of AP normalization), with a 105mm gun and 2x overmatching this value drops to ~58mm EFA allowing the 105 derp to penetrate where it wouldn't have before.

    3. Angled spaced armor, Overmatching applies to each layer of armor individually, 2x overmatching will reduce the amount of protection which each layer of spaced armor provides (as long as 2x overmatching actually applies obviously), As a result spaced armor is a lot less effective against AP/APCR because of 2x overmatching (atleast when angled)
For example when firing at 70mm of armor plus 30mm of spaced armor with a 120mm AP-round compared to shooting at a 100mm armorplate:
At a 0 degree angle both will give 100mm of EFA.
Angled at 65 degrees the 100mm will give 200mm of EFA (with 5° of AP-Normalization as always)
At the same angle the 70mm + 30mm spaced will give you ~178mm of EFA (140mm because of the 70mm plate + 38mm because of the 30mm spaced armor)

Hally got a reaction from BlackAdder in The new mm is an improvement but it's also a total mess. But why?
I logged 250 solo pub games in tier 8s while doing 3 marks on 5 different tier 8s pre 3,5,7. 228/250 had tier 10s in them. 119/250 contained at least 8 tier 10s per side.
Tier 8 mm was fine on US east, but on west.. which is extremely top heavy in tier 10s, was worse than today.

It took me over 400 battles to do that mission. 3 arty matches are not all that common.. and when you make an arty run.. your own arty tend to pre-aim and instant splat stuff before you have a chance to do any damage. When I finally did complete that mission.. it was from winning a 1v7... (with 1 afk on my flag, so no kolobanov)

Hally got a reaction from SmalltalkJava in O-Ho Appreciation Thread
There's a pretty big difference between damage farming and winning in the O-Ho. The 10.5cm is a better damage farming weapon; but it doesn't win nearly as much as the derp. Heavy module damage and fear factor make large contributions to pushing, which is not reflected in your dpg stats. The derp also allows you to contribute to a push in far more situations, even against Maus and E5, something you simply cannot do with the 10.5cm.
You don't have to do a ton of damage in a superheavy to win. Pushing in a timely manner also works. (It is for the same reason I have such a high solopub win rate in maus despite absolute potato dpg.)

Cheeks are no longer a weakspot.. but you could've just clicked the hull and pen. WZ is low enough to the ground to hit the top portion of the UFP at facehug, which is autopen for 340 HEAT.

Hally reacted to SmyleeRage in How to active scout on Malinovka Encounter
He is basically saying why would you play light tanks with encounter on considering almost all the maps end up for the most part being a fight for cap and most cap circles for encounter end up being in a corridor area so for a light tank you end up having to rely on your team and you know that when you say rely on team in world of tanks it's just a start to a bad joke.
So, Basically anything that works in this type of environment benefits obviously but putting your light tank in an environment like this will make it struggle to perform in like putting a cheetah in a rain forest it may be the fastest thing on land but rain forests are so dense it wouldn't matter how fast it could go it just isn't geared for this environment.
At the end of the day though it ends up being your opinion and choice if you want to play encounter with light tanks though since carbon told me a year or so back about this my LT win % recently has been quite high for solo light tank play and I feel it really has to do with the fact that I don't have encounter on anymore.

VR stacking actually works pretty well on horribly camo'd superheavies like maus of JPE. A LOT of meds, especially blue and purple ones, seems to just love HEAT spamming you from 440m away. Having the VR to dig them out worked wonders a lot for me.
The only tanks I wouldn't bother getting vision with are ones that are too blind regardless such as IS-3/6.. or ones that need all the gun handling boost it can get such as indien panzer or T-34-3 with a low skill crew.

If you are getting shot in the side.. that means you over extended, and charged too far up without clearing out enemies in front of you. Unlike T95, E3 cannot take on opponents from two directions.
