Jaegaer got a reaction from ZXrage in WoTlabs still the thing?
The problem is that WoT, from a high level super competitive point of view, is dead.
All the discussions about game mechanics were had.
All the pros did sufficiently rub their epeen in ths game.
WG is VERY reluctant to change anyhing at all that would have a lasting influence about how this game plays. And if it is done it is mostly in alternative modes that are only temporarily available.
Finally the power creep is real. New tanks are the shits and giggles and many old tanks are left in the dust - which is ok for all the peeps that have it all and only wait for the next OP thing to grind, but sucks for all players that are still grinding certain "staple" tanks and realize these are no longer considered good.
SO, well, the good news is that most of the old stuff is pretty much still very viable (with the exception of some tank reviews) and, unless you are a fledling unicorn, is at a level that you will struggle to life up to anyways (at least at first).
The bad news however is that there is no other site thats better updated bc WoT, as I said, is too old to be really interesting to the majority of movers and shakers.

Would be useless. Roma is fastish and pretty maneuverable with good camo and awesome armor - aka a BRAWLER. If you want to snipe in a tier VIII BB then the Amago or the NC is for you.

I hate them for the sole fact that they cannot land torps on DDs. I don't want to be rushing smoke gimped, and I'm not sure I'd want to give up smoke in randoms.

Yeh, well, I never thought that being unable to threaten enemy DDs with your torps would be so crippling. Low range torps on top means you can only do things if the enemies DDs screw it up. A single Kagero can ruin your game, endlessy screening you with no fear at all even if detected by RL. My winrate in these things is abysmal and I hope the YueYang is worth it

Jaegaer got a reaction from igorCRO in WG is going through with the Obj. 263 changes
When the game stalled like two years ago WG tried the mostly risk free soutiuons to pique interest and maintain the games eco: emblems (backfired), additional modes (backfired), Personal Missions (worked rather well) and then buffing tanks / releasing strong prems (was generally liked too).
But now, after stalling for like two years, the game entered a slow decline despite all that fluff. WGs answer: same maps only much nicer and personalized tenks. Well... that will surely stop the tide, if only for a few months.
But it has been like that with most games, the really drastic changes are usually made too late and then only accelerate the decline because all the people that stayed for so long really did so because they liked the game as is and all the ones that would have liked said changes already left.

Jaegaer got a reaction from kaneaaa in Best way to learn how to be a strong player at tier 10?
There are two things to be gud @ Wot:
Macro - where to go and how long to stay and where to go next
Micro - what to do where you went
Be aware that it may be that you can't wrap your head around one or both of these. In my case I could never wrap my head around the micro thing (being an old guy). I usually knew where to aim but in the heat of the snapshot I aimed wrong. I drove against walls and didn't manage to lock the auto aim or locked the auto aim on the wrong target. And if I got angry at myself I also forgot the Macro. Went WAY too agressively and got damage/killed way to early.
With that out of the way: how do you get there:
You watch vids/replays BUT you do NOT simply consume these! Watching Circon or X3n4 or Straik can teach you a lot or nothing. It can only teach you alot if you CONSTANTLY ask yourself "what would I do now?" and then look wether the Unicorn is doing it, and if not, why not? How could he know? This means you need to browse the minimap constantly, remember LOS restriction/spotting ranges, bush mechanics and enemy team roster - amongs others.
Then you try to replicate this during play only to fail horribly at first - likely even dropping in WN8! Thisis where you need to man up and don't give up! Don't hesitate to get worse in the short run to get better in the long run - you need to tear down whats wrong and rebuild whats right and this will cost you in the meantime.
Yes, that may feel more like work than fun - noone said being a Unicorn is easy for everyone (it is for some, very few, "true" Unicorns) and the game is made in the way it is to make it as hard as possible to feel sure about your game. SO many things are random and can go wrong.
In the end, if you prevail, you will be a Unicorn or die trying :-)

Jaegaer got a reaction from monjardin in Soo... who got a Type 59 this Xmas? :)
They likely use the same algorythm as in WoWS but didn't manage to get it displayed correctly in all cases.
They way it went in WoWS was that, if you rolled a ship that you already had in your garage, you would get the "next" ship on a list (unless you also had that then you would get the next one after that and so on and so forth).
Sooo, it could very well be that the Type 59 is the "last" tank on that list and thus only people that already have all the other prem tanks, that the boxes can drop, get it (it was like that with the Type 59 equivalent in WoWS - the Gremaschchy).

Jaegaer got a reaction from SmirkingGerbil in So this has caused a lot of upset on EU forum: Wg's Q & A
Thats how WoT is, was and will be forever.
The nature of this game is casual and WG does everything to appease the unwashed masses because in WoT these unwashed masses provide the vast majority of income. In other words, in WoT there are not really any whales that WG needs to cater to or everyone is a whale or whaling is not connected to skill. Pick your fav.
Thus the imbalances in the game will stay. Any glue sniffer can hop into the Type 5 and have a (by his standards) good game if MM puts him against 5+ Tiger IIs on his flank. And, please, do not delude yourself about the impact that great players have on the development/design of WoT. I always laugh at things like "RNG is the reason why many players leave the game" - no, it is the reason why SOME REALLY GOOD players left it - while at the other hand it is the reason why thousands of baddies still play and pay. So, yes, WG is playing their own game, they do just not cater to the upper crust.
So either deal with it or quit (like I did) - complaining will not do anything because the vast majority of (paying) customers is happy with it.
If you want an out, play Word of Warships - where the tier disparity is way less pronounced and the RNG is way less a factor and there is no prem ammo. Only thing in common is that many maps suck and WG can't be arsed to remove/rework them and only manages like one new (random) map every two years.

PR is useless - WG always finds a way to screw their ratings hard. In the case of PR it's team (iirc) battles that boost PR like mad and have nothing to do with any skill except the skill to get invited into a good team.

Jaegaer got a reaction from Gr1nch_1 in Need a good explainer of random distribution for Pubbehs
The person you quoted assumed that randomness = balance and he is right and wrong at the same time.
He can test his hypothesis easily for himself by rolling 15 dice and adding them up, then repeat the process and compare both sums. This example disregards WR (each player is represented by a random unweighted d6).
I think no sane person would expect that paired sums are always the same but it is likely that they are around a sum of 52 or 53 often and, even better, if you do this test about 10000 times, the distribution of unbalanced results tends to be the same.
In that sense rendomness is indeed balanced in so far that every player that plays enough games tends to have the same single imbalances.

I have no words to describe your retardation if you think CVs are good in comp because of their strike capability. Tier 8 is the most played competitive tier and 3/1/1 Shoukaku is taken as the CV of choice. You only get 1 TB squad so killing DDs early isn't possible and 1DB squad means you aren't a major threat with DoT bleeding. The reason CV is taken in comp is for vision. Having air superiority establishes vision easier, which is why AS loadouts are taken.
My thoughts on the new GZ (version 3 or 4?) is that it's still a broken ship. It's far too effective vs BBs and not only that, it's inconsistent. I watched Fara drop a Tirpitz with the AP bombers for like 9k and then hit another one for like 30k. It makes no sense. The DW TBs are just not good. You already have the AP bombs, it's like drowning pancakes in syrup, you can have too much of something. The single fighter squad is pretty cool though, it just needs more ammo capacity and slightly lower strafe dmg. Ship still is absolute crap though. Completely broken in terms of effectiveness. It needs to be less extreme.

WoT isn't a terribly good game but it certainly is a terribly addictive game.

The carrer can do that damage with an auto drop - no aiming necessary. You can't angle against him. He also can spot/permaspot most ships he comes across. He can hit ships behind islands.
Also you could have just as well done 100k damage or 10k.
This is what needs to be adressed and thats not "why Cvs can't have nice things."

Jaegaer got a reaction from Archaic_One in So I have a stupid idea. World of tanks:vanilla
Imho "balans" is not the reason here. Rather everyone but the most retarded pubbies will learn a thing or two after 2-3 years.
Best example: Lakeville. When I started WoT I would be able to shoot pubbies heading into the town literally every game. Nowadays even tier V pubbies know to drive into town at the utmost rear (in the rare case where they don't push the swamp).
Nothing. When people want the "old" game back, they really do NOT want the old game but rather the old feeling of wonder.
Back in the time WoT felt new and great. There were many things to discover, many stats to pad and many CW to win.
However most here have between 20 and 50k games and any wonder and excitement they felt back then is very likely gone - forever. And only a fool thinks a game would be super again if it would revert to the old (crappy) engine/rules/unbalance from n years ago.

Jaegaer got a reaction from Fulcrous in Is it really true that your win rate goes down in 5X events?
The gameplay experience is different. Pubbies tend to play more - which either means they play at all or it means they start to grind when usually they only play 2-3 games.
Both impacts the game in the sense that it increases irrational behavior.
Unicums are mostly unicums because they can correctly predict the gameflow and use this information to gain an advantage over both the enemy and the teammate. The more irrational those people get, the harder to predict, the less the influence a single player can have.
So, indeed, during special events (or just plain holiday/weekends) the winrate of all players trends more towards the average and for very good players that means it tanks (on average).
But the real problem is not this (usually the sample of games on a weekend is too low anyways to notice much) but the fact that being unable to influence the game in the usual and expected manner is not fun. So unicums either are sensible and quit/deal with it or they go on tilt. And then it's a self fulfilling prophecy because being on tilt has never helped winning more.

CVs are unbalanced and break the game in any competitve environment. Imagine old WoT clanwars with planes...
That is far from "restricting the best players", it is a remedy to a problem they can't fix fast (total rework of CVs). And last time I looked all the best clans were on top, exactly as expected - so not much restricting and dumbing down going on. On top of that all players of CW (even from OM/OMNI/whatnot) aknowledged that the mode is pretty fun.
So Folterknecht, show us on this doll where the evil WG touched you. Maybe we can help you to get over it one day.
