  1. Growing up in a Navy town in the 60s and 70s, I want this so badly. I keep applying for the alpha, but despite the experience I have testing, have yet to be picked. I can even supply letters of recommendation from an executive producer at Gearbox,and the executive producer of WWII Online.
  2. Thanks! I'm working on being more mobile and pro-active. Paid off with an Ace Tanker in the Su85 the other night. I won the Su 85I in a clan "cage match" tourney, so have two prem Soviet TDs now. Guess I'll go for the 704 line and end with the 268. I played Soviet TDs all the way in beta, but that was ages ago, and I have to re-learn how to drive them after so much time in the French and Brit TDs.
  3. I am potato, cannot wield SerB's bludgeon properly. Of course, I'm solo-pubbing in it, and sometimes have to shame heavies into advancing while driving it, which doesn't help matters. On reflection, I think I am acting too much like part of the initial push, and not hanging back just behind the lead tanks. Should I be playing this more like a second-line heavy, or hanging back more to get some licks in before being more aggressive against things I can kill in one or two shots?
  4. I like the look of the "Flying Saucer" turret. The reload looks longer than a TD, though.
  5. Light tanks are something I've never really gotten a handle on, but I love playing tanks that actually existed, and have purchased the new Tier V Chaffee. I'm really not having any success at all, which I know is due to not knowing how to play it. (Still not used to the tiny hp pool, for one.) My SOP so far has been to try and zoom out to a spot where I can spot from cover, using rammer, binocs, and net. Maybe I'm getting too far out, because it seems the other side's scout has more backup than I do, and I end up being crushed like an empty beer can. I only have 8 games in it so far, but those have ended with me in flames before 5 minutes are up. Do I need to hold back more? I've had Abbey twice, and run for the abbey, but have died alone. Kharkiv twice, running up the west side about 3/4 up, but getting focus fired or a heavy breaking off from the fight to smack me from behind.
  6. I bought mine shortly after it first came out. If there as a "WG's Used Tank Lot," I'd probably trade it in for something else, but since I finally started the German heavy line, it has use besides being a source of income. It was much better, "back in the day."

Once I learned that there is no way to camo this thing, and you have to abuse the depression (this happened about the time I gave up and blew a huge chunk of free xp to get the top gun,) the Emil finally clicked with me. Brought my win rate from 41% to 51% in pretty quick order. Of course, I'm coming off grinding Brit TDs, so used to being left in the dust by a KV1. My problem is not knowing where the bumps are to hide behind that give long LOS on most maps, and getting caught out of position.

So, I finally broke through my two-month long potato run, fueled by grinding Brit med/Brit heavy/Brit TD/French TD until I was beating my face against the keyboard, and have learned (basically) How To Emil, based on some advice that showed me what I was doing wrong. (plenty.) The problem I'm running into is one that has plagued me forever with slow TDs: Where to go on certain maps. Ideally for the Emil you find spots that don't take 5 minutes to get to, where you can abuse your view range while peeking over a hill or bump. Thanks to WG chopping up the long lines of sight on many maps. that's hard to pull off. Some maps that I don't perform well on are Fjords is one I'm unsure on. F8-E6 from the east, or hook around and work the field from the north when spawning west. Himmelsdorf: Too small to abuse view range. Usually try to cover the 2/3 line from either end Northwest: I'm so slow, I end up at C8 from the north, or G2 hoping to move up later on the south. Ruinberg southwest ends up too close to the action to survive in an "Easy Kill" Emil, so I end up near J5 or J7, which limits my contribution. Serene Coast: I go either B3-B4 or G2-G3, which again seems to limit my contribution, but anything closer gets you a free lead lunch because your camo = nil South Coast: I end up either on the beach or trying to overwatch the middle. Tundra: no clue. Westfield: A3-B4 from the NE spawn, again, doesn't seem an optimal position, but the hard cover is vital. Can't brawl the city in an Emil, so end up in D1-D2 Windstorm: from the north, I"ll cover the A line or the C line. From the south, I end up milling aroung F4-G4, hoping to get lucky. Sightlines are too short to push north, and city fighting is never a good idea with the Emil. My technical skill is enough to perform decently, but my ignorance of the subtleties of the maps is what's holding me back. HInts are greatly welcome!
