    Comrade tankers,
Darkest were the days of 1941 when we ground through the T-34 line, clanless and alone. Then we saw the light of the Forum Warriors channel, from which came offers of platoons and friendship. We remember how we became one with PBKAC and fought our campy Swamp battles in Europe. We can still vividly hear the IOC's order on Fisherman's Bay: "one-two line, begin yer push". We recall our victory with a half-baked fascist box strat on Ruinberg and our obscene defeat from "dick in facce" on Cliffs. We were there to witness the conception of hardcore PBKAC Himmelsdorf strats, where once we stacked meds on the hill only to lose to a capfast. We had our moments farming lame points with BULBA in the Americas and doing our giddy M60 count-ins to farm pubbie tears. And of course, who can forget the thunderdome, the fast-bois strongholds, and the anime club.
Nowadays the war is over and the soldiers don't know where to go. The WarGods removed all-chat and so we bid farewell to the days of smack-talking baddies. CR/D is dead and gone, forever buried deep in the ground alongside Chairinabasket. We wonder where the veterans from old PETCO are now and what new hip game they play today. We tried the PTSD-inducing Red Orchestra 2, fighting the Great Patriotic War as a conscript with only a rifle and bayonnet, but the community there was small, they didn't insult each other much, and there was neither stat padding nor metagame. We tried League of Legends, finding some of the memes and airhorn-inducing MLG plays entertaining, but it lacked the euphoric feeling of a 3-unicorn hard-carry; there was none of the "us versus them" mentality as the game just makes good players fight other good players.
We miss the days of WoT; terrible as the game is, the people playing it are second to none. We dream of fighting with you unicorns in the halls of Valhalla, forever pursuing the 99.9% winrate and surfing on the waves of the Red Sea. Thank you all for our time together. We are here to read through old posts and we would love to chat and reminisce.

As a guy who's entering his ninth month of insomnia (~3 hours of sleep a night if that), may I ask how you've been handling it?  I've been needing meditation and over-the-counter sleep aids to just hit five hours a night, and even that hasn't been working the past couple nights.  Curious as to what kinds of solutions other people have come up with.
In other news, still lurking.  So glad to hear things are looking up for you, Alesia, here's to hoping your good fortune continues.  That absolutely freaking sucks CiDisguise, though IMO that shouldn't keep you from writing/texting/emailing your younger sister.  Still, I've dealt with my fair share of scumbag parents and all I can really offer on the matter is at least you're getting it over with now, rather than worrying and obsessing over it over the coming months/years.  Awesome that you're providing us with good news Inciatus... well, other than the pain obviously.
Here's to hoping you guys catch some breaks in life.  Hell, if I'm not allowed to catch a break, at least you guys catch them in my stead.

I actually have to disagree, I never did like Blake, and I started despising Ruby this season.
Blake's always seemed to be nothing more than a plot device to me.  "Oh, you're this dark and mysterious girl we just met and know nothing about?  Who are you, again?"  "Oh, you used to be a part of this terrorist organization that are now the Bad Guys?  How convenient!"  "Oh, you used to be in a relationship with the Head Bad Guy Dude?  How convenient!"  "Oh, you're related to the Head Bad Guy Dude Before The Bad Guys Were Bad, who also happens to be This One Place Leader Dude?  How convenient!"  I dunno, I guess I never did like Blake's character, and her having some type of relationship (and often introduction) of every major plot point thus far left a bad taste in my mouth.  Even with the Ozluminati wanting to make Pyrrha one of the maidens, Blake just so happens to be the ex of that one guy who just so happens to be the leader of the bad guys who just so happened to be the group that helped Cinder & Co. attack Beacon.
Ruby's less a reason, and more a kneejerk reaction to V4E7.  She got her ass kicked eight ways from Sunday, was repeatedly told, by both JNR and Qrow, that she was useless in the Tyrian fight, she was shown to be useless in the Tyrian fight on more than one occasion, so what does she do?  Why, run headlong into danger anyways, and be the SINGLE DIRECT REASON QROW ALMOST DIED!  And why?  "Oh, look at me, aren't I such a big strong scary Huntress now?"  And then JNR have the gall to keep looking up to her after she almost got her uncle killed for hubris' sake!  Yeah, sorry, no.  Put me with that group, and I'd be dropping Ruby faster than a pile of hot rocks.  If she almost got her family member killed because "she can totally do it and she really wants you to know she can totally do it", then what's stopping her from doing it again, except leaving you out to dry this time?
Although, RWBYPhysics(TM) aside, you won't catch me complaining too much on their weapons.  Definitely strict adherents of the Rule of Cool, something that I absolutely don't mind in the context.

I kinda want to make an argument as to how Star Citizen is still fun and all...
But I kinda haven't been able to play ever since they fucked up their optimization eleven months ago.  Seriously, a $1500 machine that used to get 75FPS when 2.0 came out got a whopping 13FPS whenever I tried to get on last week.
    Yeah, no.

So do I want the tank or not?  Let me tell you about the tank.  Tanks are made in America.  By Americans.  Unless you want Mexicans making your tanks.  Would you want a Mexican tank?  All it would do is take your job and ruin your neighborhood.  So, I'm going to get rid of them.  You watch.  It's going to happen so fast, and APCR is going to pay for it.

So when the pizza delivery guy came by with my food tonight (hour+ ago) I made the mistake of asking how it's going. He then went on a rant about how the government, specifically the presidents for the past 13 years have authorized him as a test subject. They follow him everywhere and speak to everyone he speaks to, telling them what to do. They control what he eats, medicines he takes and so on. They watch him everywhere he goes and are using him as a test subject looking to eventually kill him but first want him to get sicked. They caused his stroke, his heart attack, liver almost dying on him, erectile dysfunction - which apparently is resolved - among other things.
I need to find a new pizza place.

TBH, I think the main reason they think that way is because the muslim world was more or less spared from Hitler and Stalin's shenanigans compared to other groups and places. They were mostly colonies and thus not the main focus of anything other than a territorial and strategic fight. If they had ever been hunted down to even remotely the extent the jews have been in the course of history, they'd sing a different tune entirely. Europeans are really fucking good at wiping shit out they don't want to exist and there are thousands of years of history backing it up, hence why these bombings won't end well over the long term. Let's not forget that it took 1 generation for Germany to go from the home of Einstein to the 3rd Reich war machine because they were treated like shit and scared about their future.
You can't give democracy to people, it just doesn't work. In the best case scenarios, you get Africa-style conditions with extreme corruption and poverty that is strictly controlled by a powerful elite and at worst you spawn shit like ISIS or start an endless civil war. The Western civil rights/democracy movement started getting into gear after the Black Death with improved rights for peasants due to there no longer being enough of them left to randomly abuse, effectively ending feudalism. And then it still took fucking 300+ years and colonists fighting their own god damn families for the US to become a thing. Not to mention the shenanigans the French did to get started on European democracy, slaughtering anyone who had even a hint of royalty.
You basically can't install a central government in a country where it's mostly a tribal society with shit infrastructure. The village leader in some god forsaken corner of Afghanistan doesn't give a shit about what the president says because the government has no reach or power there. But religious institutions do and when they turn into ISIS-style people, that's who you have to obey if you don't want your place torched. On top of that, ISIS can supply or fund your village because even a few thousand dollars can buy years of supplies or essential tools for the farms. Attacking Iraq was just the most idiotic strategic move in modern history because nobody even bothered thinking about how much of a stabilizing factor Saddam was to the entire region. Having a gigantic resource rich and religiously significant country in the hands of a guy who killed the shit out of religious extremists was pretty handy and served as a giant plug in the tube between people like Bin Laden and the rest of the world.
This shit will never ever be fixed until the average muslim stands up for their own rights and fight back. And that's hard when the West has a hard-on for bombing the region when we decide which Dictator of the Month (that we probably installed to counter commies) we dislike now. It's not like most of the population there thinks it's fun be under constant watch of the muslim inquisition, just like us Europeans didn't think it was much fun when the original one did it here but they need to find a way to hope to get rid of them. And foreign powers bombing their homes really don't do much to stop the ISIS recruitment drive. Just like with Al-Qaeda, you have to deal with the leadership to make the larger network crumble: By the time the US actually killed Bin Laden, his terrorist network was almost completely irrelevant on the world scene because they had their funds frozen and leadership assassinated.
Assist the Iraqi army and other locals in taking out the caliphate, it's a big deal that muslims do it and not Western boots on the ground. Then destroy the economy of the leadership and assassinate any shitlord that pops up on the radar. Leave the middle east the fuck alone from there and hopefully it can stabilize to the point of the population wanting things for themselves and their families, rather than just focusing 100% on not being dead tomorrow.

Lolz... Again, don't be butt-hurt. I can't fix your problem. I've already suggested how you could approach this and that was to drop the the-school-is-the-problem shtick and to address the rule and why there should be an exception for you. Own your attendance problem. Make it clear this is a unique opportunity. Enlist your teacher's support by asking them to acknowledge that you can make up the missed work and that your status as a student gives them confidence that you'll successfully make up the work.
I'm the stay-the-fuck-off-my-lawn guy, so I don't see a reasonable basis for arguing that you should be excused from school and that the rule re: excessive absences ought to be ignored so you can go play a video game.
There is literally nothing about this trip to Poland that would benefit your schooling no matter the tenuous connection you try to create between this trip and your courses.
I'm curious why you're offended by my so-called "nit-picking"? If addressing what you've literally posted is nit-picking, well, guilty. But wtf else am I or anyone else going to address except for what you actually post? Again, deal with the actual criticisms leveled and stop the whining.
Indirect insults? No, they were direct. And they weren't bullshit, either. Someone has to tell you this... You're the epitome of your spoiled gratification-now generation. It's why you firmly believe that the school and school board are the problem here or that the rules are the problem. There's nothing unreasonable about an excessive absence rule for students. For fuck's sake, you're in school for 9 months and you're missing more than a day a month. I guess employers who have sick leave policies are so unfair, too, right?
I get that an expenses-paid trip to Poland is fucking awesome. I had two of those (to England and Germany) when I was a competitive runner in college and didn't want to miss them. But I had a perfect attendance record and pulling better than 3.8 gpa and my profs had no problem with me missing multiple classes and even an exam.
I sorry that you find dissenting voices and opinions annoying (typical of your safe-space-needing generation), but you'll need to change that mindset quickly.

I sympathize with Ian; however, what we're really talking about and what he has to overcome is that this is a video game. Yeah, yeah, wah, wah, no one respects "gamers" or "competitive" gaming. There are valid reasons for such attitudes. Ian has to overcome those.
Absences for school-sanctioned extracurriculars, e.g., athletics, music, forensics all share a common characteristic - they're school-sanctioned, i.e., you have teachers and coaches employed by the district providing instruction, mentoring, etc. Those activities also promote academic achievement by tying participation to attendance and scholastic performance. Ian has to sufficiently demonstrate that his preferred extracurricular shares these characteristics...good luck.
Now, perhaps if Ian was a stellar student who commanded the respect of his teachers and attention of the school principal and district administrators, perhaps he could craft a compelling argument that would persuade those people to support his endeavor. However, the current "petition" basically is a whiney complaint that "gaming" is not respected and appeals to Ian's "solid" status as a student. Neither individually or in combination is interesting, let alone compelling.  Additionally, arguing (in circular) that such a trip to Poland would be beneficial because "it would be beneficial" is hardly the way to approach presenting a compelling justification for what is a request to grant an exception to well-established rules.
Seriously? "Enhance his knowledge of international relationships"? That arrogantly presumes he has some existing idea of" international relationships" which he likely does not. Digital pen pals via a video game is merely a digital friendship, not a relationship within which there are shared goals/interests pitted against competing interests that require specific competencies to negotiate, compromise, retaliate, etc.
So, Ian's real problem is explaining why his extracurricular activity deserves the same attention as school-sanctioned activities that would present a compelling basis to except him from eatablished rules and requirements. Start there and you might get some traction.
    Sincerely,

Here's where you ( and your parents to a degree ) fucked up... You carried 8 unexcused absences into Vegas. 4 had some logic behind them but you ( and the parents ) didn't play the game. Do the paperwork to get your illnesses documented, in most school systems it's very simple, doctor's offices don't generally charge a co pay. 1 day for a big project OK, blow it off fine. 4 days where you just didn't feel like going? Well now the administration just doesn't feel like letting your eSports trips slide.
Did you try to get the Vegas trip excused? Was it on their radar? That's a chance at precedent that you (plural) missed if not.
Sure it doesn't feel fair, and it's not, but this is a real instance of "life isn't fair", so learn the lesson now, how to work the system because the system literally never goes away. Every job, housing situation, taxes, even just discussions as a consumer have the game, the earlier you learn to recognize it and play, the better. Your parents don't seem like pros, but you're old enough to practice on your own.
Also " literally professional" is still a stretch. I made as much playing CS my senior year of college as a share of the Vegas prize, but still considered myself a student. eSports like real sports isn't a sure fire career path, so keep your options open.
Finally, here's what you should do if you want to be a real winner. Fuck the school board, call their bluff. If they short you on credits, don't go to summer school. Spend the summer in GED prep and test out of the rest of high school. If you're actually a talented student and aren't risking a bunch of AP credits the rest of high school is probably a waste. The time spent in summer school can be spent completing it entirely. Then enroll in your local community college with a head start. And try not to do anything in your late teens or early twenties that irrevocably fucks up your life.
If the school board doesn't call your bluff, proceed as normal and consider my advice and warning about your parents blindspot anyhow. ( just the long form version of what Jackie says above)

I'm going to be completely unbiased here, and someone who has taken time off of University AND Work to go to WoT Tournaments.
You would not be having these problems if you didn't skip school for no reason. You took 4 days off for no reason out of 8 before Vegas, and another 12 days missed after class. You have to learn to delay and defer gratification. I would imagine not going to Poland in the end would be a wonderful life lesson for you.
I was able to take days off of work because my attendance record is impeccable and a punctual employee. My supervisor didn't even think about it. Perhaps just let this be a life lesson for you.
