Thank you all for playing, especially those of you who showed up until the very end when most of us had the tank secure and we just needed to push the last few players.
I am also extremely grateful to our FCs - this campaign was a massive strain but it was fun playing with all of you. Fjell's math was awesome and got as many people as possible the tank. Last but not least, thank you Nurki - assembling this group of people and getting us through this campaign has been a huge effort!
I am pretty content with the results. Everybody who showed up at least semi-regularly secured a tank. We finished 62nd which is respectable but - and that is my one regret - we could have easily made top 50. We outperformed a lot of other clans massively at tier X which allowed us to rise more than 50 spots in that stage alone. Sadly, we performed poorly in tier VI (we had to learn how to chip effectively first - which resulted in us not spamming enough battles in the beginning; moreover, our tier VI winrate was mediocre). After tier VI was done, we improved considerably. Sadly that stage had a rather big impact on overall results. Tier VIII on the other hand had very little impact but at least tier X allowed us to make big steps by finishing several missions.
I am just happy that this massive grind is done! Enjoy the tanks! And now let's have some fun and beat up those plebs who thought attacking our sh is a smart idea!

My feelings about that tank are increasingly mixed: I get why it is extremely useful for CW. But at the same time this tank frustrates the f*** out of me. During this campaign I finished games with a damaged ammorack more often than not. And let's not even speak about the blow-ups.

Gharirey got a reaction from dudixy in Having trouble knowing when and where to reposition and when and when not to be aggressive in general.
If you want some general rules:
Use the reload time to change positions/angles. You need to be more greedy with hp on an autoloader than on any other tank. The decision whether to relocate depends on a prognosis on how your flank will develop. Count tanks, take into account how situable they are for the current fighting situation (e.g.: a T32 in a hulldown spot counts more than a FCM in the same position). Is arty harassing your flank? Do your teammates seem competent (e.g.: that very same T32 being too dumb to play proper hulldown might be a terrible sign)? The principle behind that choice is that you always want to play your autoloader on the flank where your team is likely to succeed. Autoloaders suck at defending since they cannot provide constant fire, whereas they excel at attacking. Sometimes your team will just be too bad and lose everywhere. In those cases, you want to play a retreating action. Empty clip, run, empty clip again, run some more ... if possible. Obviously this is only possible if you pick your spots well. Even more than other tanks, autoloaders need to pick positions that offer a feasible route of retreat. An even harder question than whether to relocate is whether you can initiate a push: Ideally an autoloader doesn't go first in a push. Sadly, most pubbies are eunuchs who have sold their balls to pay for a Pc II J. This puts you into a dilemma since you cannot afford to take massive damage pushing a position without severely reducing the effectiveness of an autoloading tank. Taking some damage might be acceptable if it allows you to inflict a full clip of damage but I would refrain from taking the big caliber shells unless it is a late game one-on-one situation. Another question is whether to empty a full clip. With the long intraclip reloads of the AMX 50B it is often smarter to reload prematurely since exposing to long might end up in you taking unnecessary damage.

Gharirey got a reaction from Smbakeresq in Micropositioning, show your awesome spots! Now compiled!
I watched a few of the videos to catch up on what the mountain goats have come up with. My impression is that 80% of the "new discoveries" are of situational usefulness at best. It got me thinking about some ground rules that allow players to decide which climbs are worth their while and which are not:
Long climbs are only worthwhile if you reach a position that is utterly op. If you climb for 2 minutes, you remove your game from the game for that time. Your team is playing with one tank down while you are goating around. Early damage wins games. If you miss out on doing your part early on, you will have to carry much harder later - meaning the position you reach must be all the better to make up for the wasted time. Dumb ass position: crossing the river on Abbey to get shots on the 8 line. Getting there takes almost two minutes, the shots are rather mediocre. Even worse, the position is completely removed from the rest of the map. Worth the time: the crazy Mountain Pass south spawn climb. That position is op covers your own cap as well as the bridge exit and most importantly the main brawling area in the west. Wasting 2 minutes to get up there is an investment that can pay off. What also helps is that Mountain Pass is a map that tends to play out slowly. Positions in the back of the map are generally not worthwhile. I call this kind of position "loser positions". If a position only becomes relevant once your frontline has already faltered, it is no good. It may allow you to farm some damage but if you are already a handful of tanks down because you failed to have any impact while your frontline was slaughtered, it will most likely remain gratuitous damage. The same thinking applies to most campy TD positions by the way. Your gun needs to be in the game as early as possible without overextending yourself. There is a reason, the people camping in base/the back tend to have <50% winrate. Difficult climbs are only worth attempting if you have practiced them. The Mines climbs are fairly tricky for example. Avoid climbs that might expose you to enemy fire. E.g.: The island in the West of Malinovka offers nice spots but there is a fairly high chance that you may get spotted while crossing the river/climbing up. In comparison with more conventional bushes that makes these position a bad trade in my opinion. Good positions offer a safe and fast way out: Eventually a mountain goat position will lose its value. Therefore you should be able to get down from your mountain top quickly and without taking drop damage. Obviously this is less of a necessity if your chosen spot overlooks your own cap. Good positions offer firing lanes on multiple areas and cover large parts of the battlefield. This offers a reassurance that you are still useful even if the enemy deploys in an atypical way. This should be evident but there are always the FlorbNoobs ... Analyze the team lineups and likely zones of deployment before committing to some freak peak. Be ready to abort a climb if you see that you are unlikely to get good shots from your chosen position. For example crossing to the island in the Southeast of Arctic Region makes only sense if there is no arty that can bomb you out of that position. In general: Think before you goat!

Agree with almost everything Kolni wrote. Some additions:
Get rid of the misconception that light tanks need to scout at all costs. The primary role of a light tank very much depends on the map. On the few open vision maps left in the game, you should indeed think about providing vision for your team first and foremost. On the contrary, providing vision is irrelevant on a map like Ensk. Even a half-blind heavy can light his targets for himself on such a map. In consequence, it is not worth risking hitpoints to scout. Instead you need to figure out how you can deal damage and - even more important - how to create overmatches for your team by using your mobility. The sweetspot for lights are the mid-tiers. High tier scouts are indeed garbage compared to the mediums with equivalent MM. But the very best scouts for their tier are tier V and VI and some tier VII lights. ELC and T37 are the two scouts that for their tier and MM are currently the most powerful light tanks in the game (at least in my opinion). MT-25 is ok, Type 64 is decent, I am a fan of autoloading 59-16 but the pen does indeed suck. Chaffee and M41 are very good vehicles. Yes, scouts got f***ed by the map department. But that doesn't mean that they aren't fun to play. They are however more challenging than any other class and require better situational awareness and map knowledge. Most importantly, every mistake you make will be punished mercilessly since you lack armor and hp. I would therefore strongly advice you to stay away from them until you have become considerably better at this game.
