  1. This formula was relayed to Deus by Major Rampage and has been validated by WoTLabs users CernoAlpha provides an excellent explanation of the formulas. Original thread is the best stuff is buried around pages 9-11. Go upvote Deus and Cerno there!
  2. Hey dudes, recently I was working on my Batchat MOE. I made it 87% ish and then hit a complete brick wall. Now I'm down to 79%. I have no clue on how to be consistent in this tank time to time. Either I'll get amazing RNG one game and all my shots hit or the first clip I take misses a few shots and I instantly get yolo'd. I think I have a problem with the early game and getting myself into situations I shouldn't. Do you guys take spotting roles in pubs at all or should I play passive as I feel I maybe playing too aggressive? I recently three marked my 50B so I somewhat understand autoloaders.
  3. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this tutorial is to guide you through the steps required to create your own Marks Of Excellence mod using Paint.NET which is a brilliant freeware tool but you could also use Photoshop if you have the .dds plugin. It was originally written and designed for the QSF community but has since been removed from their forums so tweaking it and uploading a new version here. Regardless of your feelings towards the QSF community it's a tutorial that took me a while to put together so no flaming on the tutorial pack content. It's only to give you a hand to make your own. I may update the tutorial pack if I find time to/get bored. CLARIFICATION NOTE: These icons will replace the existing MoE on your tank, NOT 'give you the marks'. You still have to 'earn' them as normal Tools Required: Paint.NET [Download] My pre-made template pack from [here] A creative brain (I know this rules half of you lot out!) STEP 1 This is the most important stage as it's the planning stage. Have a think about what you want to do and source all of the images that you wish to use. I'd also recommend reading all the way through this tutorial to help inspire your creativity. Next thing to do is assess the tutorial pack. Open a Paint.NET window and open the Tutorial Pack, navigate through the folders until you get to three files: gun_china_1.dds gun_china_2.dds gun_china_3.dds There are many ways of doing the next section but for ease in this tutorial drag and drop the gun_china3.dds file into the Paint.NET window that you have open, it should look something like this: STEP 2 Next (again for ease) we need to add a layer; to do this click the 'add layer' button at the bottom of the layer window (if you don't have a layer window open by default press F7). Now your layer window should look like this - This is for 'backup' so that we don't overwrite the original image just yet: drag and drop your new image (or images) into Paint.NET and select the option for OPEN rather than new layer, this is because your file may need conditioning first. If it's a PNG file with an invisible background then skip ahead a step, otherwise follow step 3. STEP 3 For this step I will use another image to show you how to condition files. Open the window (click on the picture up the top of Paint.NET window) to select the image. Thankfully I have sourced an image with a nice plain background, we need to remove this background. Click on the Magic Wand on the tool panel and click on the background, you will see that the background has been completely selected, press the delete key to remove it. If you can't find or see the tool panel then press F5. Your image should now look something more like this: TOOLS GUIDE (click images for larger version) STEP 4 Select your image (ctrl+a) and copy it (ctrl+c) then go back to the first screen you were on (with the three old QSF logos), now select a blank layer (layer 2 should exist as you made it in step 1) - [if you skipped step 2 then drag your image onto the window and select new layer]. It may require re-sizing, to do this (keeping the aspect ratio), hold shift and drag one of the corners to res-size. The image ideally wants to be about the same size as the QSF logo. Now create another two layers, select layer 2 again and copy the layer (ctrl+a then ctrl+c) and paste on the two layers you have created. If you need to see easier then there is a zoom level bar in the bottom right corner with + and - symbols. Select Layer 3 and click the move tool, move the layer so that it is inline with the first of the new images you placed but also covering the center QSF logo, repeat for layer 4 and the third logo. Now select the Background layer and the eraser tool, up the top is now an option for the Brush Width, change this to something large like 60pt. Hold the left mouse button and erase the QSF logos, the other layers should remain untouched. If you rub them out then you have the wrong layer selected! - Just undo and select the background layer properly. If you choose to make icons smaller/larger then make them no bigger than 80x65 or else the symbols will overlap the barrel (fine if you're doing stripes or something) STEP 5 Hopefully you are happy with your results and now have three 'symbols' to replace the marks of excellence, now we need to save the changes. As there are three symbols, you guessed it, this is nationName_3. Click FILE>SAVE AS, then select DirectDraw Surface (DDS) (*.dds) as the 'Save As Type' and call this gun_china_3 to replace the existing one (or save in another location). A warning will come up about flattening the image, click ok and it's done!! NOTE: As of 9.14 you will need to configure .dds file as DXTY5 and generate MipMaps Next get the eraser tool and change the brush width (top bar) to something suitable like 60. Erase the picture furthest on the right then save as a DDS file again but this time call it gun_china_2. Repeat again until you have one image left and you guessed it again, save as dds called gun_china_1. STEP 6 Now comes the long and arduous part. At time of writing there are 8 tech trees now 9 tech trees in the game, which are as follows: china czech france_uk germany japan sweden usa ussr Noticed that there are only 8 lines? That's because France and UK share the marks... [example: gun_france_uk_3.dds] These are CASE SENSITIVE. You have already created china_1 through to china_3 and you guessed it... you have to copy the files you have created and replace china with the nation/tech tree name. For those thinking 'what if I only want x symbol for x nation and a different one for y nation?' - well I salute you for thinking outside of the box. All you have to do is run through the whole lot again but save as what nation you wish to use it for. All identical nation tanks in game will have the symbol you define, it won't affect just your tank. You can set different symbols for all of the nations in game. FOLDER STRUCTURE You will need to create a folder structure to place the files into, the structure is as follows: gui>maps>vehicles>decals>insignia or just overwrite the one in the template pack. To install, this gui folder resides in res_mods/x.x.x/ (x.x.x being your client version number, e.g. 0.9.1) IDEAS AND HINTS Bear in mind that the images do not have to be the same and have some fun with it, here are some ideas that I had (and may still do if I get bored). Marks in order (first, second, third) That shows progressive skill (medium tank, heavy tank, helicopter for elite). Look up guides if you are unsure on how to use Paint.NET as you can do all sorts of things such as colour replacement but I (personally) would keep things simple with singular colours where possible i.e. change the colour of the ideas above to be white for visibility. You can also apply a similar idea so that the image changes depending on how many marks the player has... i.e make both images on _2 files the tank and all three on the _3 files the helicopter etc. Another idea came to me from ADVANCED For those feeling brave and wanting to make 'weathered' marks like the default ones you will need a more advanced picture editing package such as Photoshop that supports custom brushes/erasers. Download a grunge type brush Set as eraser and set opacity and flow to around 70% and 50% respectively Adjust size of brush as required and click to 'fade' certain parts of the image I won't go into too much detail on the above as this was designed to be a 'free' and easy to do mod, those who have Photoshop will most likely know how to do this kind of thing anyway. COMMUNITY CREATED CONTENT NOTE: Since 9.14 some of these may no longer work as they require 're-saving' as DXTY5 with generated MipMaps Here I will place some of the work that YOU the community have done using this tutorial. If you wish for your work to be shown then let me know and I will add it here. I'm happy to host your files too so drop them to me in a PM or whatever To install these place the gui folder in res_mods/x.x.x/ (x.x.x being your client version number, e.g. 0.9.1). Delete any country that you wish to keep as standard etc. 'Unicorn Dickbutt' - by _Goliard Download Link Picture: Spoiler 'Larry The Lobster - LAVA Mascot' by It's_Matra LAVA Expert: Download Link (Only those with 3 marks see lobsters) LAVA Normal: Download Link (all MoEs are Larry) Pictures Spoiler (click to enlarge) shot_183.jpg shot_184.jpg
  4. Hi, I have played the su-122-54 for 103 games now, and I absolutly love the tank. Great mobility , great camo, combined with awesme DPM. So I decided to go for 3 marks. This is not my first time, I have 3 marks on type64 , bulldog, su12244 and T-10. ( got them in 2 days when I put my mind to it) But he su-122-54 is starting to prove really hard. I average 2647 damage right now and 548 avg assist. My mark is only at 86,95 percent. So , I need tips, are there certain things that help? turning of gamemodes? platoonng with light tanks? do I need to change my mindset? in what way? I have already looked at other 3 mark tips post but they are not very helpfull for TDs generaly, and not specific enough fot this tank. Equipment: optics, vents, rammer ( change for gun laying drive??) Skills : commander: sixth sense, camo, bia, recon (55%) gunner; camo, bia, repairs, designated target( 55%) driver: camo, bia, clutch braking, repairs (56%) 1st loader : camo, bia, safe stowage, adrenaline punch( 11%) 2nd loader : bia, camo( 96%) (damm crew layout!) ammo: 21/11/3, quite generous with heat in battle consumables : big first aid kit, big repair kit, extra combatrations Gamestyle in su : Initialy : either going to camp bush or spot depending on team setups and map. Middle battle : keep up with the lines of the battle and support team from around 300-400 meters End game: use mobility and DPM to farm damage , very aggresive to get as much damage as i can, trading HP for damage. Any tips? I would love to learn !
  5. So I've played just over 100 battles and was very surprised no to have my 1st MoE on the AMX 30 [officially my new favourite tank]. I have been able to maintain an astonishing [for me at least] 66% winrate with almost 2000 dpg and still about 5% away from that fancy white line, when usually by now I'm around the 70%-80% mark by now in similar tier tanks. Anyone have any tips as to how to get the ever so elusive Mark of Excellence? Here's a game I played with 5.7k damage and still not even a Mastery... http://wotreplays.com/site/2058506#airfield-gaol2-amx_30_1er_prototype
  6. In this topic I'll try to give an idea, how WG converts your damage into MoE rating, measured in percents. After each battle your "moving average damage" is recalculated as Dnew = (1 - 2/101) * Dold + 2/101 * (damage_battle + max(assist_track_battle , assist_radio_battle) ) When you buy a new tank, your initial moving damage is set to zero. After hundreds of battles it approaches your plain average damage+assist (if you play constantly good). Your current value of moving damage can be found in battle_results cache files, if you use Phalynx converter. Writing down moving damage and MoE rating after each battle, it is possible to plot a corresponding curve (red color): For every tank that I tested, I got a piecewise linear function. For percents 0,20,40,65,75,85,95,100 they define a corresponding damage+assist value (which is always divisible by 50, and every day in can slightly change), and use a linear interpolation for intermediate values. The question, that you might be interested in, is "Where the hell these 5% of players, that do 4k damage+assist on average?" Of course, there are such players, but their number is less than ~0.1%. How could WG obtain such a number, 5% for 4k damage? We can find a hint, if we have a look on a distribution of damage in single battles. I analysed about 60k replays from wotreplays site, and plotted a distribution of damage+assist for players, excluding replay uploaders. The result is presented by a black curve on the plot above. As you can see, the curves look quite similar, though there are significant difference, so we can't conclude, that WG treats just single battles to make their tables. My guess is that they treat player's day statistics, no matter how many battles was played. And then they compare it with your moving damage. That's why you don't see these legions of unicums: WG compares average damage for 100 battles with average damage for one day.
  7. Hey guys! I feel that I am a decent player in internet tanks. I am not really great, but I do not suck in this game either. The problem comes when I try to three mark T10s. While I can get three marks fairly easily on T8 and with a bit more effort on T9, I am absolutely unable to get them on T10. I usually achieve 92-93%, but then I get greedy and totally fuck up my work. All my T10 heavies and my Obj 140 was above 93% for a short period of time, but then the last 2-3% never added up. I may have been playing too agressive or too passive, I had bad decisions, either way: I am completely unable to three mark T10s. I have seen worse players with three marks on their barrel on T10, so I am kinda desperate. If you look up my stats, you can see that currently I am above 90% with the following tanks: E100, 50B and STB-1. With the E100 I've been over 93%, with the 50B even at 94,5%, but never achieved to play some other good matches and get them three marks. Yesterday I had a really good session with the STB-1 with the result of 80WR and 4k DPG and now I am a shy bit over 90% and I really don't want to fuck this up. My question is obvious: how to squeeze out that last couple hundred damage which is required to get the third mark? Do you do that alone or with a bit worse, yet reliable platoonmate, who can cover your ass while you reload your mag for example? Do you stop for a day after getting 92-3% and continue "your mission" next day or you like to finish it in one go? Do you tend to play more agressive or more passive at the end? EVERY advice is welcome, maybe even some replay from the last couple of games which resulted in three mark.
  8. Well, a bit tired of 30b atm, tried to 3 mark m48, had terrible 5-6 games in it right from the start. Decided to try 140/62a again, because they are just so much more fun to play. Seem to be better dmg+spotting dmg wise, well over 4.3k together on average, not enough but close, at least it shall be moving up and it does to some degree. Like these from 2 days: Current MoE progress: But I still keep having shit 1-2k games in it before making up with 5-6k one and this throws me back just to much. The question, how you eliminate those bad games was asked few times on this forum before and I've read it all etc, even figured out, that having shorter session while soloing the same tank only like 10 games max gives me the best results, still, even if its not 15:3 lost game but actually something like 11:7 win, I somehow fail to see, when its right time to push/reallocate to find juicy high HP targets and somehow keep having those ~2k games way to often. Watching almost all replays from xena/poltto (I ignore only e50, there were enough from last month already), streams, recorded/streamed Chuck Norris tournament sessions, making sure my crews/eq. are best possible, etc, but still can't myself. Would some of you maybe review few of my bad games from a session, just to tell me, every single fck up/bad decision/badly aimed shot/etc, which you spot? I tried with 30b on Tape Study, it helped me to focus and improve at it, still no one reviewed a single game from there so far =/ Thanks for reading, will post a fresh session, if I'm not as tired as today, in case anyone would be interested to help me out, would be awesome!
  9. Hey there, I just noticed today that my T-34-85 is near 3 MoEs, at 91.33% to be exact. This is from casual play only. I've been bored with the game lately, and have decided to try to get my third mark in this tank. I've never gotten a third MoE yet. Any advice on this matter would be appreciated. I have two marks on several tanks, including M6, T29, and my Crommie, and also of course on the T-34-85. If it interests you, my setup is Vents, Rammer, and Binocs; 41 AP, 5 APCR, 2 HE, and permanent summer camo paint. Crew skills so far are Sixth Sense, Snap Shot, Smooth Ride, Situational Awareness, and Safe Stowage all at 100%; and then BiA currently at 63% on all crew. Tank stats are 52% WR, 40% survival rate, dmg ratio of 1.63, K/D of 2.36, avg XP/battle is 518, avg dmg/battle is 923 with 566 received and 247 assist. 1.12 spots and 1.4 kills per game. Looking forward to hearing any pointers
  10. How many on NA have done this? Seems pretty tough. Feel free to show off any pics.
  11. Looking for a tier 10 platoonie. Silent tooning recommended(Or you can Chat)
  12. Highest % I hit was 92%. Then I got 1 clicked and it went down hill from there. 6k Damage games weren't enough to get to 95%. Fack you WG
