Leopard-1 by Kewei

Recommended Posts

Crew Skills:

  • Commander: Sixth Sense, BiA, Camouflage, Situational Awareness, Recon
  • Gunner: Deadeye, BiA, Camouflage
  • Loader: Safe Stowage, BiA, Camouflage, (maybe Adrenalin Rush)
  • Driver: BiA, Camouflage

...

  1. the Leopard 1’s scouting capabilities and improving them by stacking camouflage, vision, and skill boosters such as premium consumables and BiA. Dead-eye also helps to keep targets lit up longer.

Dead-eye is increased chance for module damage.  Designated Target keeps enemies lit up longer.

wtf is kiting enemy tanks?

Kiting is a technique used in order to keep shooting while retreating. Especially used a lot in RTS games.

When enemies are comming strait for you, try to keep a set distance between you and them. Use any advantage you have to keep this distance, a distance that allows you to safely shoot the enemies while they are hunting you down. Think for example about tracking, so you can increase said distance and not die. This of course only works with good enough viewrange and camo over your enemies.

Edit. On phone, sorry for bad formatting.

But onto the article; nice write, sadly i hardly see any Leo drivers in my games...

kewei mentions hitting the R button twice, for me this will put the cruise-control in full speed if the R button is tapped twice in a row... Only when pressed a little after eachother it will count as two separate speeds. Im mentioning this because I've been using this technique myself since playing more lights, but for me only hitting R once is the more comfortable way of slowing down in a circle.

Maintain distance, stay at the very end of what you can spot, abuse camo, and the same thing Radjes said, fall back or advance accordingly.

Shame the Leo isn't anything more than just a light tank with an L7 slapped on it

If it had some outstanding features besides being a Batchat without an autoloader, the Leo might have been good

Really? I was under the impression that a lot of unicums rather liked the Leo. The Leo PTA was the shitty one due to poor gun depression was the last I heard...

Liking a tank doesn't make it good, or vice versa

Maybe some unicums like it and think it's good, I don't think it's good and I don't like it

Oneeechan & Anfield hate it, there are plenty of others who like it.

Leopard 1 can be perfect for the one that like being a delicate flower, but at the same time carrying a railgun.

As much as it is the closest to porn we're getting in this game, I myself prefer the E-50M because of its overall usefulness.

wtf is kiting enemy tanks?

Start at 3:40.

From Starcraft:  The Stalker (ranged unit on bottom) fires and retreats repeatedly without allowing the Zealot (melee unit on top) to make contact & attack.

In WoT, it's a Leo (410 view) firing at an advancing IS-3 (350 view) from 380m, retreating to maintain that distance, and firing again.  Obviously that's an extreme example, but there's usually a window for it against anything that rarely equips optics.  Careful bush management can make it work against even the best vision tanks.

I almost exclusively play only the leopard 1 now.  I think it is a very under rated tank, but does need a high level of in game awareness to play effectively.  I do kite a lot of tanks on open maps with this tank, specially them Russian heavies..  Maybe I'll rite a guide on the basic principles on kiting in WOT.

Anyways, good review on the tank.  I encourage everyone to give this tank a try.  Most fun tank I have ever played.

Play a few games tonight to try to demonstrate somethings that Kewei was talking about:

I too think that the Leopard 1 is under rated. Its Speed and Laser gun allow the very high performing players to get the most out of its very great potential.

I think barks_internally is one of the premier players who can best display this.  He has a few replays but one good one that might still work (8.11) is found here

http://wotreplays.com/site/756820#prokhorovka-barks_internally-leopard_1

It demonstrated the Leo 1 at its best. He is a 4k WN8 player that has mostly LEO 1 games.  If your not that good you will suffer greatly in the LEO 1, as its totally unforgiving of error (0 Armour). I am NOT that good...

His Thread and replays can be found here for 9.0  ->

Speed + 9 degrees of Gun Depression + .3 accuracy + APCR is what makes this thing king.

Grinding the line is less fun and the Indien / PTA are just designed for you to throw money at a free XP skipping exercise

Instead of replays watch EJ? Be warned tho, if you watch it to long your WN8 will duck.

I have no idea how you managed to sound so disparaging.

It is exactly a t10 light with an L7. It has its own niche and it utterly excels in it.

I think to just pan it as not good is utterly facile...

RBS to be honest this review disappointed me. It looks like he wrote it in 10 minutes - the factual errors and weird advice made this seem like a slapped together excuse to pump out quick content. Ranting about the bloom on the  Leo seems like grasping straws, and claiming that all it does it take pot shots is just plain wrong. The Leo's bloom and accuracy blow anything else out of the water, at range you have time to pop out, sit for a second, fire and retreat before the opposing tank can even aim in halfway. The key is knowing when an enemy has you pre-aimed because they are tired of getting hit.

Please have Garbad rewrite this with 100% more clicker rants.

Full Disclosure: The Leo is my best and favorite tank and I am heavily biased towards awarding it the best tonk ever ever ever award.

The article on the leo 1 didn't have a video in it!!! Which is unusual

Proposed Solution _> Get Barks to provide a video of the Leo 1 at its best....
