WoWP MM Abuse and You

Recommended Posts

Every month in the WoWP section we will have at least one heated argument between two parties. One side often argues that abusing the low pop MM is borderline cheating and despicable, while the other argues the opposite, that what they are doing is part of the game mechanic.

Both arguments have merit. Gaming the MM is part of the game, and it shows understanding of the MM mechanics. People have done it before in WoT as well, and most noticeably farming top EXP awards of the month for a certain tank by timing in with ~29 clan mates (See: KingAlphyn). While frowned upon, it is not illegal to game the MM per se without the intent to skew the results of a contest. Queue dodging is also common practice for platoons (before when they showed #of tanks per tier in MM screen) who wished to play as top tier in every match.

HOWEVER, in the case of WoWP queue dodging and gaming the MM is often frowned upon due to the already low population of the game in NA. The game itself has many problems, mainly aircraft balance and the steep learning curve for newcomers. In WoWP one flight/platoon can easily carry a match by being top tier due to the significance of altitude and team maneuvers. Thus putting one flight as top tier nearly every match almost guarantees their win. This is basically CANCEROUS to a new game and drive numerous players away simply because it is NOT fun when the game is basically rigged against them.

While the platoons have fun winning and getting great stats in WoWP, ultimately it's sending the game in the death spiral. Is it illegal? No. Is it a scumbag move? Yes, most definitely

So please refrain from discussion of this topic in any thread because it is non-constructive, and causes insurmountable butthurt as soon as it's posted.

But really how different is it from a tripple unicum platoon in WoT, especially playing selected tanks? The only change I see is in the chance to win (Something like 75% compared to 85%). And of course the inability to rig the MM per say since they removed the table.

well, that explains why the highest W/R player in WoWP on the hall of fame has a 90% W/R, after ~5K games and playing all tiers.

The difference is entirely down to server population.

In WoT, a triple purple platoon can run all night and manage 70%+ WRs with no issues. However, even though they're winning all the time, they also facing entirely different teams most of the time. The server population of WoT is high enough that a triple purple platoon running 8s is unlikely to play with the exact same pool of players over the course of 3 hours.

In WoWP, the population is so low that not only will the triple purple platoon be facing the EXACT same set of players over ALL their matches, they will often be doing so against pools of players under 15 in total. The WoT NA population in particular has simply not hit the point where gaming the MM is not going to result in almost EVERYONE else in a 2-tier range of the platoon being given a 90%+ chance to lose.

Can you honestly tell me, Viktor, that you would play WoT for more than a few matches if you KNEW that EVERY single match you were about to play in your tier 6/7/8 vehicle would:

  • Be matches with less than 20 players total
  • Face you against the EXACT same players
  • And face you against the EXACT same triple-purple platoon that you KNOW have been steam-rolling EVERY game they're in through a combination of
    • Being good at the game AND
    • Gaming MM to ensure that their platoon of 3 Tier 8s faces off against 1 opposing Tier 8 at most

If the answer is Yes then I think you're either lying or a masochist :-)
