Hmm, most of the shows you prefer -- barring the odd Manga Time Kirara show, have some sort of running plot to them, so most SOLs are out.  How about Seirei no Moribito, or some of the older stuff from Noitamina?

cool will check them out :D

@ teru-san, it's not that I don't like SOL, just they're never memorable for me lol. I remember having a good time watching thru stuff like hayate or Seitokai Yakuindomo, but it's just not the kind of stuff i'd be like "OH MAN THAT WAS AMAZING" after watching. idk, SOL just doesn't have the same lasting impact as something like 5cm/s, you know?

Or the sort of impact Utawarerumono had, except that impact was my fist hitting the wall and trying to hunt people down for a blood vendetta for insulting my intelligence.

dude that game was amazing, until it got to the robots. If they just left it at a feudal era sorta thing, I would've been happy. RIP so much of my time trying to beat that game on the hardest difficulty to get Aruruu H-scenes...

anime was fine too until ep ~20 when it got to the same random robot segment.

Amazing, no, not even close. Mediocre bordering on decent would be more apt, and the robot twist shitfest turned it into one of the worst things released in the decade.

someone clearly didn't get the Aruruu scenes

Lessee then, just from memory, the better Noitamina shows I watched are the following -- Nodame Cantabile (the second season really sucked though, too much compression), Honey and Clover, Mononoke, House of Five Leaves, Tatami Galaxy, Wandering Son, Sakamichi no Apollon, Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai.

And because most of these have been licensed by Crunchyroll, you can watch these legally too, barring the older ones (Nodame to Mononoke are obviously out).

As for non-Noitamina shows, hmm, I mentioned Seirei no Moribito, Kimi no Todoke, Kyousogiga, Mawaru Penguindrum, Ano Natsu de Matteru...

Someone thinks storytelling is more important than jerking it, literally or figuratively, to a dime-a-dozen child character.

oo yea i've heard good things about honey+clover especially.

i'll check them out :D, tho this'll have to have really good story cuz i'm not a huge fan of the animation style (i'm a sucker for that shojo style :$:$:$::$:$:$)

@solono, aruruu is special!

She was better off, as a character, staying dead the second time.

Prior to 2010, Noitamina was the place to go for non-mainstream shows.  Both Nodame and Honey+Clover are shoujo series I think, which usually have a hard time getting animated -- the former is a romantic comedy though, the latter is mostly a drama.

Add Simoun to the "must try" pile.  It's a whole lot better than it initially looks.

Finally, Humanity has Declined (aka Jinrui). Satire is SO hard to find, after all.

Anyone ever watched/read Astarotte no Omocha? The manga is mostly lewd comedy, the anime seems to lean more towards a kawaii desu desu fest.

Yup, actually really liked it. Has its moments (ie, mother-daughter towards the end) but it does get quite a bit of humor and conflict from lewdness. Its lighy hearted mostly but some of the main plot drivers/devices can be pretty dark.

Kind of want Whispered Words to get an anime adaption, the books are good enough. Because....yuri. Oh and Citrus. For the love of god give Citrus an anime adaption.

Yup. To be honest I only watched the first two episodes. But read through the whole manga. The story is pretty hilarious though, a succubus that hates sex. Sundome was another pretty good one.

I hear good things about Jinrui. In the mean time, maybe watch Usagi Drop? Sunshine is hard to find nowadays.

Also, this thing is out:

They made Hana sound like an S and an M at the same time. Not that it's out of character really but it does feel awkward in the game.

The problem with the Usagi Drop adaptation is it's ultimately tainted by the rest of the manga that never got adopted -- and it's controversial stuff, that kind of flies in the face of the cute and heartwarming material that came before it.

yea iirc usagi drop manga goes a bit too far on the father/daughter relationship...

:O, htat reminds me i need to watch listen to me girls, I am your father!

This week's Locodol: I kind of figured that the "idols have stalkers" thing would have to rear its head, but here it's kind of brushed off in the name of comedy. And yes, I do think that Nanako has two stalkers — note how Yukari doesn't contest it when Nanako calls her a pervert. The lesbian is strong in that one...

That said, I think it was fairly obvious that it was Saori who was a stalker from the start. Way too many clues (like knowing stuff she's not supposed to know of yet). If I were the girls, I'd be worried. :P She had some amazing imagine spots though. Behold that glorious Muv-Luv cosplay:

Hopefully though she reins in her perversity, and it doesn't take up much screentime from this point on.

Oh, and the final segment. So not an excuse for a date, Yukari.

I watched it with friends, I doubt I would have enjoyed it as much as I did if I didn't, haha.

yeah makes it a lot more fun, especially bad shows.  like for some reason Call to Cosplay is in the anime section of crunchy (its basically project runway a la cosplay), I think its highlarious. They say its to cringe 4 them, but theyre just bitches.

I was able to finally watch the Non-Non Biyori OVA yesterday, and it was excellent as usual, though Hotaru's lesbian was starting to leak through at times, ahaha.

Was able to also watch Rokujyouma and Rurumo today too.  The former was a good old-fashioned school marathon, with everything trying to keep it from being as normal as it should be. XD  Yurika was able to come up on top though, surprise-surprise, since Kireha and Theia cancelled each other out, but yeah, I think stitching club pres is definitely not normal too.  As for Rurumo, kind of a slow episode, with Rurumo trying to more or less make up for having a nice dress bought for her, though through the most obtuse and circular means as possible. :)
