  1. 1. Which tank would you rather win?

During the last few days, -G- competed in the Twilight of the Gods event on the NA server.  I thought some of you might enjoy a grunt's eye view of playing in a clam wars event in a top clan.

Here are the details on the event:

Rewards go something like this:

BACKGROUND:

I assume you understand the basics of clam wars and -G- structure.  If not, take a look at this:

http://wotlabs.net/articles/clan-wars-tactics-from-g/

When we read the details of the event, we voted on the first night that we wanted to win it.  About ~70 of our 100 apes wanted to participate.  Having 70 unica at our disposal is both a major asset in battle and a major challenge in terms of making sure every ape gets the reward.  (Most mid tier clans have ~20-30 people who play, making it a lot easier to get high scores individually even if the clan does worse overall.  Many of them, such as DOS, also do a lot of rigged match farming).  But none of that concerns me as a grunt -- the leaders take care of all chip movements and politics.  I simply fight.  But be aware these are only the matches I played in.  We had perhaps another ~30 matches where I was benched to rotate in other apes.

As preparation for the event, Gs were asked to assemble a stockpile of IS-3/110s, AMX 50 100, AMX 13 90, and a dabbling of other specialists including M26, T69, and Roomba.  We also played in stronkholds, both because its fun and to get practice in low tier competitive play.

WAR WAR WAR:

http://wotreplays.com/site/1159719#self

Our first opponent was ROXY on murvanka.  Both teams threw hard at the camper hill, but key early hits by camador and decent focus fire let us prevail.

http://wotreplays.com/site/1159723#fisherman_s_bay-garbad_the_weak-amx_13_90

Next, Relic_2 on fisherman's bay.  Both teams deployed similarly, but a well executed fix and flank utterly shattered their heavy force before their mediums even had time to move.  A good team effort.

http://wotreplays.com/site/1159726#redshire-garbad_the_weak-amx_13_90

RSRDD on redshire.  I'm not really clear what their plan was, but whatever it was they got caught up in my flanking/scouting/encircling movement and quickly annihilated.  Cancer was clicking.

http://wotreplays.com/site/1159728#swamp-garbad_the_weak-amx_13_90

Thugs in a swamp.  We split both sides, Thugs hard camped.  Our mediums did poorly early, getting repeatedly lit and clicked by their cancer.  We dug ourselves into a hole and against camping bitches in unflankable positions this can be tough, but eventually our heavies came through, and our lights were able to wrap around at a key moment and shatter them.

??? on Karkov???

^ Somewhere around here I was in a match against someone on karkov, but basically I suiscouted as my game crashed.  I died with zero damage, but because my scout identified they were doing an otter style 15 man zerg down one path, the apes met it, crossfired it, and murdered it.

http://wotreplays.com/site/1159729#cliff-garbad_the_weak-t69

Relic2 on Cliff.  Relic tried to get our attention middle and flank around, but we anticipated the move and crushed into their middle, dodging the flank and wiping them out.  A hectic little scramble.

http://wotreplays.com/site/1159734#karelia-garbad_the_weak-110

Arbok on Karelia.  This battle was just mop up, but we had a basic spread out and flex if they push, if not rain cancer on them bitches strategy.  They moved mid, stopped when cancer fell on them, then tried to move north and got cancer again.  The north won the battle before I got involved, and it was never close.

APES vs. DARK GODS

Our opponents were a "surprise" but we knew with only 8 tanks they had to be bringing tier 10s.  Accordingly, we had a different plan than we would use against balanced opponents.

With only 8 tanks and much heavier HP/armor than us, we expected the Gods would zerg either the 3 or the 8 line to force the fight quickly and have a chance to overpower us.  Accordingly, we spread out to identify where they were early and then draw them into a crossfire and also potentially easily have 3 tanks to break off and capfast (with only 8 slow heavies, its unlikely they could stop this).

But WG didn't have any coherent strategy, and instead just spread out like pubs and camped.  Ironically, this actually made the game closer since no competent team would do that, and it made our strategy ineffective.  I went hill, found one guy alone and fell back.  At first we intended to isolate and eliminate the medium on hill, but when another one arrived we decided to wipe out the 3 line instead.  I lit middle, 8 line moved, and the pincer came in...but pretty awkwardly, tbh.  The IS-3 flank got ripped up by the T-62As and we kind of ran out of steam.  Not our best zerg at all, but we came through.

I understand NA was the only server to beat the Gods.  Later I believe Otter beat them as well (and WG, naturally, didn't even adjust, giving them an even more degrading beatdown).  TBH, it was a harder fight than I expected.

GIMME MY BANANAS:

So in the end, G won:

I came in the top 200, so I won a 112 chinese premium tank. \o/

We also won 500k gold, a medal, and everlasting fame.  Hope you enjoy, comments welcome.

4S beat the Dark Gods on ASIA server also, vs 4 E100s and 4 Maus. The Gods won the first, lost the second, then won the third (against same clan as the first game) after they switched out two Maus for two T57s I believe.

The whole tier 10 thing was pretty bullshit I thought.

Very nice over-view. Sounds like the finale was a rather perverse affair :-)

I didn't mind.  The fans seemed to like it.  It was more challenging than I thought it would be.  We were confident enough we didn't even try to make a good team -- people were picked based on who needed fame.

On a side note, which tanks performed the best well and least well vs the 10s?

High pen, obviously.  I think we might should have gone with some more 416s and roombas or something.  But we wanted speed because we expected a zerg push, and our counter was capfast.  The idea that WG would camp in tier 10s on a live stream surprised us.

I'm got permission from Yankee to post a Foxey vs -G- replay. I'll be putting up that and Foxey's last nights of fights on swamp.

I'm surprised that your FCs would think that WGNA might have a coherent strategy..... you guys need to fight bad clans more often. :)

The way things played out in Asgard was rather odd - if you wanted Victory points, you needed to capture new territory by moving off the landings toward Valhalla.  But since all the stacks moved that way, you often ended up with no fights when you moved to a new territory.

If you wanted fame points, you had to actually get more fights.  BULBA just ended up sitting on one of the landing zones in Asgard the entire time.  That way we were guaranteed a fight with high Fame point multipliers every day.  Since we didn't have that many people interested in fame points I ended up fighting in 90% of the battles and thus ended up #24 for fame points.

Of course, that means I am now getting a terrible 112, which means I'm feeling obligated to start a new crew and go up the China heavy line....

I figured at least it was a useful 110 trainer.  The T23 was just resell fodder.

Being bad and unpredictable is sometimes more annoying then a good competent player, which can be much more predictable.

Knowing what you know of me, try to estimate the probability that I would ever ask any authority figure for permission to do anything.

Slim to none.

I read that a couple times just to make sure I wasn't missing something.. The "rewards go something like this" portion doesn't make sense to me, as it doesn't have anything to do with the campaign or dark gods.  More of the skype convo (esports skype):

kF3lQsn.png

'shitters' was in reference to 13th to 16th place in WGLNA gold league.

'semi-shitters' was 9th to 12th.

and hard campers were in reference to #RU.

GJ to -G- nonetheless, WG didn't bring a coherent strat to any of the 3 matches, but they were the most organized in game 1.  Yankee was saying he had to bring his A-team when he found out WG would bring 10s, but I was fairly sure that G's C team could have beaten WG handily.

I have three Chinese heavy crews so it might get some use even though I hear terrible things about it.

The 112 is so wierd, even though its stats are similar to the IS6 in gun handling it feels night and day worse. IS6 feels like it has great RNG for such inaccurate derp gun where as the 112 feels exactly like it looks.

Im surprised you already didnt have the 112.
