Recon vs Camo

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting but I've been reading these forums a while now. I have a specific question regarding the crew skill recon. On my E 50M crew I currently have:

Commander: BIA, Sixth Sense, Repair (90%), 4th skill Recon or Camo?

Gunner: BIA, Repair, Snapshot (90%), 4th skill Deadeye or Camo?

Driver: BIA, Repair, Clutch Braking (90%) 4th skill Off road / Smooth Ride or Camo?

Radio Operator: BIA, Repair, SA (90%) 4th skill Camo for sure

Loader: BIA, Safe Stowage, Repair (90%) 4th skill Camo for sure

For my fourth skill I plan to go Camo for Radio and Loader for sure. I'm considering going offroad for driver and retraining to deadeye for gunner with snapshot as fourth skill but not certain on that either. My question is whether to go Recon or camo for the commander. I'm leaning towards recon because I know how shitty the camo is for fascist box tanks. However, I was told once that the vision control you gain from having camo vs recon is better to pick camo. I'm pretty sure that depends on the base camo value of the particular tank. My gut says to go Recon to maximize the view range. I'm currently running Vstab, Rammer, Optics (sometimes trade optics for vents)

This tank has a great gun but I never seem to get the first shot off because I am constantly spotted first. (unless I abuse the bushes on the west road of redshire.) I am tempted to just go camo on everything for this reason alone. I have a Jagtiger with a full camo crew and I get the first shot off quite a lot. Just wanted to get an opinion from someone who has played this tank better than me. I know I should be doing better in it, but have been struggling as of late.

Thank you in advance!

If you enjoy winning (which your stats indicate you don't) get camo in there, you seem more focused on dmg by your WN8.

bit harsh, especially since hes here looking for honest help.

personally, i would go recon/camo/controlled impact/camp/camo. im a sucker for the mad ramz. however, if you aren't that agressive, camo would work fine as well.

Recon gives 2% extra viewrange. Will this really be the holy grail of vision control you've been looking for?

Realistically though, crew skills don't matter all that much. Whatever you choose between those options, it's doubtful you'll notice the difference anyways.

I was hesitant to give an answer because neither recon nor camo would do much of an advantage for a E-50M. Thats' a brawling tank, not a sniper, so it's preferred playstyle wouldn't benefit much from either. I'm with Servios on this one.

A note though, for the driver. I would go for offroad, but thats just me. A brawling tank should have as much mobility as it can get.

Yeah i'm tracking recon is 2% and SA is 3%. I just wanted to know if  camo would be greater than the benefit of only 2% view range increase. Overall I know that it will not make or break the tank. It sounds like to me that Recon and x4 camo would be a good option. Interesting thought on going controlled impact but I don't like to ram a lot even though it is a good tank to do it every now and then if the situation permits.

Yeah as I'm learning this tank I recognize that it is a much better brawler than a sniper. I was thinking offroad as well and forget about attempting to be sneaky with it. My first instinct is to go Recon, Deadeye/ Snapshot, offroad, camo, camo. What is your take on deadeye? Is it worth it to retrain to it?

take offroad driving man

thats a noticeable difference

also imo camo would be better than recon but.. i'd take jack of all trades

On bigger tanks you can usually bet vision will help you more than camo, and situational awareness for the radioman would be better than recon except for damaged optics. I think an e100 perfectly set up for stealth can be spotted at 443 meters or something (445 meters is the max distance you can spot tanks, no matter how good your view range is)

On smaller tanks camo usually helps more than vision, especially if their view range is already good enough to spot most tanks before they get spotted themselves

Why do you feel your recent WR doesnt match your recent WN8? Looks like your average detections are alright (1.47ish) but only... 97 games in the last 60 days? Took a long time off?

You should have camo on at least 4/5 crew members. I would take recon on the commander if i had camo on the rest of the crew.

I got the E 50M a while back. I just got back from a deployment overseas. We are now on half days so I'm playing more than I usually do. I honestly didn't even know what WN8 was until last month when I got back.

1. Yes, camo is useful on E 50M. Go for camo on commander and gunner. I didn't find deadeye all that useful, take armorer for 5th instead.

What. The. Fuck. 2. E 50M is not a brawling tank. It can brawl in many circumstances and soak up some hefty damage, but that should not be its desired default position. Its laser gun makes it the best sniper in the game.

Recon. If you're a front-liner, you really need to see who's sniping. Camo is for 2nd line sniping or for trying to sneak up on a distracted pub

I'd go -

Commander: BIA, Sixth Sense, Repair (90%), 4th skill Recon or Camo? ... Recon with BIA and Sit awareness total +7.5 % VR = +30 m VR and with your lack of camo the VR with Optics gives you a better advantage than the camo

Gunner: BIA, Repair, Snapshot (90%), 4th skill Deadeye or Camo? ... Designated target +2 sec keeping enemy visible

Driver: BIA, Repair, Clutch Braking (90%) 4th skill Off road / Smooth Ride or Camo? ...  Smooth ride lets you shoot better on the move

Radio Operator: BIA, Repair, SA (90%) 4th skill Camo for sure ... yes

Loader: BIA, Safe Stowage, Repair (90%) 4th skill Camo for sure ... think about Adrenaline rush that 10% reload late game low HP might come in handy

This post by Alluria gives some good insight -

PS - don't run vents run Optics/Vstab/Rammer

I don't own any German tank, so I've only said this based on what I heard and my experience when dealing with such tanks. I do know Germans got the best accuracy in the game so if that's the case with the E-50M then so it is. I recant my previous statement.

I've always pictured E-50M's being used for their' brawling capabilities, not so much their gun.
