Ru 251 Appreciation Thread

Recommended Posts

Best light tank so far without question.

Pros

+ Amazing dpm (2422 with bia, 2812 with bia, rammer and vents, 2934 with bia +rammer+vents+chocolate)

+ Pretty good camo  (inferior to wz and 13 90 by small bit)

+ Really good accuracy (.34 with bia, .317 with bia+vents+chocolate)

+ Good on the move accuracy

+ Amazing top speed

+ Good acceleration

+ Gets 190 AP as standard ammo (less dependent on gold ammo)

+ Good gun depression on sides and mediocre on front

+ Good aim time (Works amazingly well with on the move accuracy and side depression to play peek a boo games.)

Cons

- SHELL VELOCITY

Overall this tank is amazing but shell velocity gave me cancer during my test. It is hard to hit things that are on the move with this gun until you get really used to it. Heat rounds are considerably faster than AP rounds which is very surprising to me (805/1145)

This tank will invalidate WZ 132 pretty much and we will be seeing this tank a lot in strongholds in upcoming days.

I wasn't very interested in it on test.

the LTTB is where my cravings lie (need to show up to more CW for more gold for more Free XP)

Ok fine let's use your thread, even though mine is 30 minutes younger, prettier and sexier.

Useful in tier 9 battles to actually light and scout.

Useful only in tier 10 to just hide for the first 5+ minutes before emerging to circle-fuck wounded enemy tanks with bad turret traverse.

Generally I think it will be barrels of fun, but ultimately suffer from the LT problem is being incredibly hard to carry on. Plus new tank syndrom + xvm target marker + full HE penetration = bad for many. Not had to suffer it yet, not sure if something will bother to load HE to hit something moving 60km/h+ ... or I hope.

I LOVE our HE round though. 102 pen means you can really mess shit up from the rear, ie most of the time you engage. Or should be engaging. I hit an IS3 from across the map head on and somehow penned, rng ho!

Still, I think Jingles had a preview video where it could circle an ST-I in reverse and the ST-I still couldn't turn fast enough! Dat HP/Ton ratio.

Ugly as sin and a bit large, but not bad. Here's match #2. Match #1 was on Tundra and therefore not very good.

I have doubts it will replace my WZ-132, crew is vastly inferior and that makes a difference.

Ugly? Ugly?!?!

It looks like a baby Leo 1 how is that not sexy?

Well for one thing its face (mantlet) is far too small for its head (turret).

The RU is an amazing light. On test, I managed to get around the lake from East spawn in Malinovka and get to D4 mid-game, and managed to light up what was left of the enemy defenders for about 8k spotting damage. I double-treed myself and fire several shots from there completely undetected, which surprised me as they had a WTF about 250m from me, yet he never saw me.

+1 for this tank, but it will never be a carry tank unless you manage to get lucky and circle them to death one by one...

I picked this up with convertible XP and stuffed a two skill crew in it, then played a handful of games.

Jury's out on whether I like it or not. It plays like it's kin to the WZ-132, but more like its derpy cousin than its brother. It's slightly less maneuverable, has slightly worse fire control, has terrible shell velocity, and has HEAT as its premium round instead of the WZ-132 100mm's APCR. I felt that the camo was about the same or perhaps better, even with one crew member only carrying ~75% camo. The DPM is nice, but I much prefer shoot-n-scoot and opportunistic sniping which is why I run the 100mm on the WZ-132 in the first place.

I'm not going to say that the Ru 251 is bad. It's clear that's not the case. I'm just not sure it fits how I play.

I'll race you to the enemy cap tonight and we'll see how it goes?

That's how you LT right?

So the RU's AP round has a velocity of 805 m/s. This is 75 m/s slower than the WZ's 85mm and 115 m/s slower than the 100mm.

The RU's HEAT round has a velocity of 1145 m/s. The only other tank I can think of with a faster HEAT round than AP is the T69's 90mm. There may be a couple others I can't recall, but a HEAT round being faster than AP is quite aberrant.

Enlighten a scrub - what is considered a good velocity? I know the E50M has insane shell velocity, how swish?

Is 1145m/s good?

The fastest round in the game is the 100mm APCR round out of the U-8TS on the tier 10 Soviet mediums at 1,535 m/s. The slowest kinetic round I know of is the 76.2mm AP round out of the KT-28 gun (stock gun on the T-28) at 381 m/s. E-50M and other tier 9/10 mediums with 105mm APCR have 1,478 m/s.

You can find nearly every gun in the game here.

I haven't picked it up yet due to being broke in the free xp dept.

Am I getting this right? It's a baby Leo 1, a massively buffed Hellcat?

It looks like it was once a larger tank that got stepped on.  Currently playing through the Awful Panther to get mine.  Hope it's worth it.

I think I'll appreciate it better when I'm not getting 30s of packet loss every time I find myself in someone's crosshairs. :/

The tank itself is about everything I could have hoped for, though.  The only disappointment is that the HESH doesn't feel as good against scouts as I would have liked, but that just frees up room for more AP/HEAT.  It could also be a result of Telia murdering my aim at every possible convenience.

I'd love mine more if I didn't get my usual bullshit luck.

Scouting on the middle hill on Sacred Valley for early spots.

Backing up after cos triple arty, one misses me but tracks. K repair.

Then E100 CRESTS THE FUCKING HILL and one shots me with HE.

Cos you know, E100s should go to that little scouting hill bit?

Nah just cos i was there, gotta fuck Pocktio.

I've had around 20 battles in my RU and I like it quite a lot. It's gun is cute, it's speed is adorbs, I haven't really found anything to complain about. Yes its low armor / hp pool but if you're able to be a dodgy fellow and flank like a proper light/medium it can dish out damage without having to work for it.

Trained my driver for off-road driving, can hit a turn at 70+ and not drift, and can circle heavies while driving backwards and keep the tight turns. Love it.

I went for the smooth ride. Would you say it's noticeable the difference, with offroad? Surely clutch braking would be superior?
