Essential Astronomy - 7 lectures about astronomy and cosmology

Recommended Posts

Warning: If you believe in creationism aka "intelegent" design, ~6500 year old earth, Santa Claus and other fairy tales this topic/series isnt for you.

This is probably the best series about the current knowledge all things releted to atronomy I 've ever seen. The lectures are held by Chris Impey of the University of Arizona in an entertaining way tailored for people with more than 10 years of public schooling. N.D.Tyson is good, funny and fits nicely into the Dicovery Channel, but this is more for the people who get bored by these kind of superficialities.

topcis:

Ancient Astronomy (history and development of astronomy)

Observing the Universe

Mass & Energy

Planets

Stars

Galaxies

Relativity and Space-time

Also dicussed are things like big bang, inflation, evolution and geometry of the universe, (dark) matter/energy, Newton + Einstein and their limitations ... .

Doubt there's much I haven't read about before, but looks very good and entertaining nonetheless. Thanks!

I generally like reading science non-fiction that are not text books, but not really open-to-all popular science. It's nice to have some visuals going with it though.

Ooh, a space lecture!

Despite being a Catholic(no h8 pls), I'm very interested in space and all the weird shit that populate it.

Nice, will watch, watching those stuff about the universe should make us realise we are litteraly nothing, most people cant even grasp what 1 billion is (how ridiculous much) and the universe is so big (and complex), it makes no sense...

i kinda like this 1, what it nicely shows is how much 20 billion stars looks like :P

Or a simply size comparison.....
