Arty Guide Incoming!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! It has been months since I posted a tips thread on how to play arty. As I promised then, since my final exams finished yesterday, I am starting to work on a detailed-artillery guide to help new struggling "clickers" to "click" better!

So far, I've decided to partition my guide into 3 modules:

1). Principles of Arty Gameplay + General Clicking Advices

2). Evolved Clicking (more refined strategies of arty gameplay to help you survive against light tanks and mediums, and tips to improve your hit ratio)

3). Advanced Clicks (strategic approaches that I take in end-game situations when the game is on the line + how to adapt as the battle progresses unexpectedly)

Please tell let me know on what you really are struggling with when playing artillery, and I'll keep that in mind as I construct my guide.

I'll not be posting arty positions that I use; arty positions are trade-secrets that once they are leaked, they stop becoming effective. For this very reason, I advise arty players from sharing arty positions on forums at all.

However, I'll provide hints and my approaches that I've used to discover new arty positions. On every map, there exist very effective arty positions. For example, on Himmolsdorf, I pull of 2.5k damage games easy on either spawn positions. Don't give up! I'll do my best to guide you in discovering your own arty positions!

I'll keep you guys updated!

Please include arty positions in your guide. Seriously though since we have a huge amount of people who don't click it might be inteteresting for them to get to know unorthodox positions you use and where you project damage. And to be entirely honest I seriously doubt that our forum has enough popularity amongst the general pubbie population to render your spots invalid.
To be entirely honest this feels kinda like "guyse, I discovered how to pwn Mountain Pass North Spawn by scouting but I won't tell ya". At least that is how it looks to me. If you really don't want to share this I can kinda understand why assuming that a higher share of NA players frequent this forum (yet I still doubt that it would have a huge impact on your games...)

One of my current struggles with arty is generally what to do when a team ignores one flank completely. Do I try to support the Lemming train as good as I can or do I safe my shell for the impending YOLO scout if I am not aware how much time I have until I am in danger.
This is now also a completely retarded question: How do you TD mode properly? I miss a looot of my shots yet when I yolo arty they have a strange tendency to hit me 90% of the time...
Assuming a game is drawn out: When do you start to counter enemy arty assuming you do it at all?
If a game has 4+ arty pieces: Is it better to try to counter early on or should I wait?

Also I am struggling with finding a good occupation  during reloads. Plis halp.
What food is best for playing arty? I currently prefer grapes, but I think there might be better options.

....we all share every single detail of our play, including opening moves that YOU can take advantage of when you see us on the enemy team. This is not the place for "trade secrets", this is the place for passing on your knowledge to improve everyone. Either use the mindset that you're teaching and educating, or don't post guides, please.

Then GTFO.  Oh and while you're on your way out, erase Sela's map guides, Rexxies areas to avoid and all of that from your memory.

(1) One of my current struggles with arty is generally what to do when a team ignores one flank completely.

(2) Assuming a game is drawn out: When do you start to counter enemy arty assuming you do it at all?

If a game has 4+ arty pieces: Is it better to try to counter early on or should I wait?

(3) Also I am struggling with finding a good occupation  during reloads. Plis halp.

(4) What food is best for playing arty? I currently prefer grapes, but I think there might be better options.

(1) Exactly like a tank. Pick a defensive position with easy and safe retreat routes and support the lemmingtrain - or convince someone to be your spotter and carpetbomb the other side. A lone LT spotting with an SPG suppressing can do wonders (psychologically speaking) in halting an advance, particularly in pubs.

(2) Countering is something that should be done ASAP. The less time you let enemy SPGs live, the more time you give your team to actually move to the now open areas. Also, playing without SPG cover against a team which has it it's extremely bad for your chances of winning. Most maps now funnel SPGs into a couple of good spots, so learn them and use it against them.

(3) A long time ago i used to play arty a lot. During your reload, MOVE. Try to get a new angle, relocate for better arc, get away from a possible breakthrough... The situations are potentially endless.

(4) Cheese with whine?

I dont have enough neg reps for all the cancer lovers. God damn

Very constructive.
