Tier 6 is the worst for LT's. Why?

Recommended Posts

My theory? The gap in gun pen across the tier is too wide.

Going off the top of my head in Tier 6:

59-16 - 86

VK2801 - 110

MT25 - 112

T21 -128

Type 64 - 128

AMX 12t - 147

T37 - 150

That's an almost SEVENTY pen difference between the tanks in the tier.

We head to Tier 5?

M24 - 98

VK16.02 - 96

Crusader - 115

At most? a twenty pen difference.

Up to Tier 7? Around Thirty pen difference.

In short, Tier 6 probably has the biggest gaps in relative Gun pen in any tier.  It's the only Tier where I use consistently load APCR in order for my tank to stay in line with its peers.  And now with the introduction of the T37, we also are starting to see a larger HP pool difference as well, which makes a MASSIVE difference at this tier, where one shot at you can be the difference between exploding or not.

Is there any way to remedy this?

If you aren't using pure APCR spam for the 59-16 autoloader, you're doing it wrong.

If you are in a clan, you can do strongholds to grind out your tier VI. Even the 59-16 can use it's AP rounds against what you will see in stronks besides the occasional T-150.

Note that the 59-16 is a rapid fire 76 mm autoloader with a pretty decent reload and uses the gun from the MT-25 as its the stock gun (that's pretty good at the tier it's on).

Even taking in the account of the 57mm and APCR you are still having a fifty pen difference in the tier.  Not to mention a 110HP gap.

Most of the older T6 LTs are pretty miserable, yeah, but at least the Type 64 and T37 are very, very good T6 LTs, with comparable or even better pen than the WZ-131/Type 61 and Bulldog/T71 for-tier, despite the spamcannons.

Think of the 59-16 as the BatChat of the T6 lights. If it had the pen and the hp of the T37 it would be ridiculously op. 575 avg. burst per clip with an 8 sec reload, the tank hits harder than a pre-nerf KV-1S.

There isn't really much to dwell on IMO. The tanks play differently so they are balanced accordingly. The T37 is top dog, but the other scouts aren't useless. There isn't any way to remedy tank stats except through adapting your playstyle or playing stronks. If you are in T9, just play scout early on until you find an opening and get to their flank. If you are in a T7 game, play like a medium.

Prepare your ears because i am internetz screaming

My theory? The gap in gun pen across the tier is too wide.

Going off the top of my head in Tier 6:

59-16 - 112  76mm is a gimmick autoloader and 57mm 112 pen can pen most sides and rears, oh and 189 APCR pen suprise motherfucker

VK2801 - 110 Tank has the fast derp 1.05cm niche that can damage anything basically

MT25 - 112  112 pen is a completely usable and 189 APCR pen suprise motherfucker

T21 -128 easily remedied with APCR and completely satisfactory, can pen most tank sides and rears

Type 64 - 128 see above

AMX 12t - 147 IT LIVES AND DIES ON ITS ABILITY TO AUTOLOAD AND IT NEEDS PEN WHAT ARE YOU SMOKIN

T37 - 150 ITS THE SIZE OF SNOOP DOGS TOUR BUS AND IS CONSIDERABLY SLOWER THEN THE OTHERS

That's an almost SNOOP DOG pen difference between the tanks in the tier.

We head to Tier 5?

M24 - 98 And is also easily hands down one of the best tanks in tier

VK16.02 - 96 HAS 360 FUCKING BURST DAMAGE WHAT TEH FUCK ARE U SMOKIN

Crusader - 115 ITS NOT A LIGHT, ITS A FUCKING MEDIUM THATS BRANDED AS A LIGHT FOR HISTORICAL ACCURACY, IT HAS A T5 MEDS MOBILITY,GUN AND MM FFS

At most? Snoop dogs tourbus

Up to Tier 7? Around Thirty pen difference.

In short, Tier 6 probably has the biggest gaps in relative Gun pen in any tier.  Smoke Dandelions.  And now with the introduction of the T37, we also are starting to see a larger HP pool difference as well, MAYBE BECAUSE ITS TRYING TO BEAT STOCK ARL ON TURRET SIZE RELATIVE TO TANK SIZE.

Is there any way to remedy this?

Yes, putting the dandelions of for a while.

They don't need pen because you often get nice MM, you can also use them in strongholds. I see no reason not to use them.

I see no reason to use the T21. Especially since the T37 was introduced.

i actually think tier 6 is one of the best spots to be for light tanks, reason being that it doesn't see tier10 yet. My T37 almost never even gets lit at the start of games, cuz no1 on either side has the view range.

The moment you get to tier7 though, your playstyle gets significantly more confined, as you can't play the vision game at the start of games nearly as easily in tier10 games.

I'll go far and saying maybe it's a case of us not looking back with rose tinted glasses?

I find that since the introduction of the new light tanks, most of the old tier 6 light tanks feel left behind, and it shows. Yes, you can argue that strongholds is where now light tanks shine (especially in the case of the T37, which is soo OP it's not funny in strongholds) and doing so doesn't affect your WN8 or win rate, but not everyone has the option of doing that to grind out light tanks.

I feel that the light tanks need a rebalance of sorts at tier 6, in order to be more effective, but not omnipotent. A balance needs to be achieved in what they need to do. I don't believe their gun penetration needs to be adjusted (because if you can pen heavies from the front it's the bullshit of high tier medium tanks) but other factors, such as dispersion on the move, reload, aim time, make them quicker, make the tanks FEEL quicker, subconsciously make people see that they are flankers, oppertunists, not fighters.

In other words, make them feel like spotters and flankers. If guns need to be nerfed, let them be. A more defined role is what tier 6 light tanks need, not a pen buff.

Because let's face it, if tier 6 light tanks got a big pen buff, I'll be the first to say that the scrubs/padders who use light tanks would simply camp with silly view range and camo, and snipe.

Soon as you hit tier 7 your viewrange/firing stats are becoming so close to mediums, you are just a faster/mobile medium with shitty MM and no armor/HP

According to latest Q&A, old LTs are going to get buffed - "in 9.6, old light tanks will very likely be rebalanced (buffed), specifically their firepower apparently (SS: it’s not clear, but I think they mean accuracy on the move)" Take with pinch of salt but if you see that your LTs suffer, these are good news for you.

Although I enjoyed T21, 12t, T37 quite a bit. T21 is nice medium - light hybrid, T37 packs a punch and has decent mobility, 12t has good burst and solid camo for ninja moves. 59-16 IMO has ridiculous mobility, good camo and 57mm looks nice.

I had a lot of fun in the t21 and finished with I think a 57% wr after like 85 games. I also got two marks in that time. Fwiw it is the only t6 light I've played.

Tier 6 isn't a BAD tier for light tanks. It, tier 7 and tier 8 are all the best tiers. Tier 6 does have a weird spread of tanks, but look at tier 8. You have a T49 and the RU and the 13 90... thats a weirder spread. Tanks could not have more different guns.

Tier 7 is most straight forward. In tier 6, just pick the T37 and 12t. Heigher pen then the other tanks and that is how you get the good exp. Same thing with type 64 if you fire prem ammo.

I'm with Kraft; I think tier 6 is the best tier for light tanks since they limited their matchmaking to tier 9.

Once you get up to the tier 7 and tier 8 lights, you might as well be driving a medium a tier up because they can do most of what a light can do without the gimped firepower.

Tier 6 is the best tier for lights, well as long as you are in a T37 or Type 64 that is. Most of the older lights are in desperate need of some buffs. The T37 is what a tier 6 light tank should be. It actually has the penetration required to reliably damage all the enemies it might meet, something that can not be said about most of the other tier 6 lights. The Type 64 is clearly weaker than the T37, but since it's a premium and makes a shitload of money in tier 6 SH I think it's balanced just right. With the last 2 lights (T37 and Type 64) I believe they found the balance of what a tier 6 light tank should be to be competitive.

Now they only need to buff the rest of the tier 6 lights to be better than the Type 64 the way non-premium tanks should be better than premiums.

So you guys think running into a T-54 counterscouting with the T-54 Lwt makes 6 the best tier?

I just think you guys been running too many Tier 6 strongholds.

The ELC? The LT that carries a 90mm gun on a limited traverse and has a radio range of 360m?

I'm surprised you guys consider it as an LT

A lot don't. They consider it a TD

Because IRL it WAS classed as a TD. WG made it a LT as they had enough for the TD tree but we're struggling to balance the AMX 40 for Tier 5, and the AMX 12t at tier 5 would be OP as fuck, even with a big soft stat hit.
