Why is the UK L7A1 garbage?

Recommended Posts

The gun seems to be as derpy as the 152mm on the KV-2. Snap-shooting is impossible you'll just shoot the ground, or the corner, or whatever you are peeking out from. They don't have bad "accuracy" (.32 on the tier 10, vs .35 on the M60 and .3 on the Leopard), but you literally have to sit and aim for 3 or 4 seconds or the shot just goes into the ground.

Is it the "hidden" stats of track and turret dispersion? How do you make it tolerable? Do I need to run BIA+vents+food to have halfway decent gun handling?

I have an IM for you. Your next topic should be about something you like in this game.

there are things people still like about this game?

The Cent 7 has trash bloom, so yes it's those hidden values. You need to let the aimtime do its work or the Cent isn't going to be a particularly accurate tank. FV4202 isnt quite as bad in this regard, but it's still pretty terrible compared to other mediums. Even the 121 has less bloom.

Dispersion while moving and traversing is as bad as the Leopard, at .138 for both, but the turret traverse dispersion is even worse at .92 compared to .61. (With Vstab mounted)

So, yeah, its not good.

Yes.  Once I added food it went from derpy as fuck to manageable.

So IIRC all of these values add up, or multiply? It has to be some combination of both, it looks like?

So if I am peeking up over a hill (using that smelly river tank inspector) I'm looking at a base "accuracy" of (0.307 (base)+0.115 (turret))* 6.9 (moving) ?

I just finally got the FV4202 today (haven't even played it yet) and the stats imply it will be night and day compared to the Cent 7/1, don't tell me it somehow still sucks? Rotation and movement are both 0.18, so same there, but turret is 0.12 instead of 0.18. Combined with the 2.1 aim time over 2.3 I was thinking it should be a lot better?

Cent 7/1's bloom is really terrible. I thought it was just confirmation bias when I kept bitching about how this supposedly 'accurate' gun fluffs so many shots. After around 380 games in it, I've decided to sell what I once thought was a keeper tank.

The 4202 is a different story, however. I'm very happy with the bloom and its ability to snapshot and it just fixes the major flaws of the Cent 7's gun performance (bloom and shit DPM).

Treeburst's charming attitude and positive outlook on life are one of the things that help keep me playing this game :P

This, is why you don't use the 105mm on the Centurion 7/1. It cannot afford to miss.

I'd rather have a gun that, while being derpy as hell, is near guaranteed to penetrate if it hits and deals a respectable amoutn of alpha damage than a gun that, while has great DPM and handling, deals very poor damage, forces me to expose my nerfed turret to counter fire for a long duration in order to deal damage and has a huge decrease in penetration that restricts its use against tier X heavies such as the E-100 and the Maus. 105 L7 > 20 pounder.

Exactly man. I always hated that gun. So inaccurate even on the fv4202. Not to mention the stb1. I am grindind the leo now and I really hope it gets better.

If you're using the 20 pdr out of choice, you're playing the wrong tank.

Yes it can, it's a support tank that has -10 gun depression and a bouncy turret with 268 average pen.

It peek-a-booms from behind a ridge at medium to long distances. You miss you hide.

Bloom is bad yes, but you don't use a DPM based low alpha gun on a tank the size of a Centurion 7/1 that only goes 40 kph.

You just don't.

Never had any issues really with this tank, it's quite capable at snap shoting with a good crew.

Hit 81% of my shots and I think I average about 3000 DPB with it these days, one of my most favourite tanks in the game.

Gun will troll of course, but you get one of the best guns on a tier 9 medium, if it had great soft stats it would be op.

For me the FV4202 is not much of an improvement, the gun handling is better but not in comparison to most tier 10 mediums.

Oh no, the L7 is the ONLY gun you should be using on the Cent 7. I did great the couple games I used the 20 pounder, but you just have to sit exposed for way too long to put out the damage with that. The L7 derps into the ground half the time, but you can still put out solid games most of the time.

All British guns suck look at the QF 6 lber. the main mid tier gun.  The Russian 57mm fires faster, penetrates more, vastly superior accuracy and does  12% more damage then any 6 lber.   Perhaps because the Stalinist T-34 is an Iconic tank on RU servers.

There are reasons why I went back to the Type B barrel after like 10 matches with the L7. The abominably bad DPM was only one of the reasons. It felt derpier than my IS-2.
