WaterWar offering mentoring on EU cluster

Recommended Posts

UPDATE 19th of March:

I have been thinking a bit this recent week and I have come to conclusion that I will be stopping my mentoring school. It is simply too time consuming for me to spend 3-4 hours three times per week on mentoring people. I will not delete any of my current students from my friends list, as I may throw the occasional invitation out, but you should not sit in anticipation waiting for one.

You are still all more than welcome to post replays in my replay review centre or ask me questions (on PM, in-game or however you want). You are also all welcome to hang out on the Lobster TS to find platoons to play with - all lobsters are happy to platoon with whoever and if you see me chilling in a one-man or two man platoon then just pop in and say hello :)

I have some other ideas to compensate for the closing of my "mentoring school", but I will keep them for myself for the time being - just to avoid getting the hopes of without being able to deliver on it.

I want to thank you all for the platoons - I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and platooning with all of you.

UPDATE 25th FEB: I will not take any more students for the time being. I already have more than enough so it is hard for me to give everyone the attention that they deserve.

I thought I would start up this new sub-forum by offering my mentorship to anyone on the EU server. I already have a replay review center where I review replays from anyone, so if you are only interested in feedback on particular games I suggest you head over there instead. This thread is for longer mentorships than just a few replays.

WaterWar's replay review center:

What you can expect from me
I am a deep-purple player on the EU server where I have played a wide range of tanks (limited TD's though). I play relatively aggresive, as I like to force the fight to the enemy and catch them of guard. You can check my YouTube channel for gameplay of how I play. My mentorship will be based on my own experiences with what works well on the EU-server. The standard procedure will be you platooning with me for an hour or so once a week (to avoid me burning out). I can also do an hour worth of discussion of game mechanics where we can load up a training-room for me to showcase different positions/maps/tricks/whatever. Other stuff can be arranged depending on my work load and your needs. I will during the session provide feedback on what you should/could be doing better but also what you did do correctly after each battle. I will be constructive and will point out the mistakes I can find important - big or small.

I can mentor people in how to drive light, medium and to some degree heavy tanks. I don't play TD's enough to have any real experience with them - so I don't want to start to teach something I am not 100% comfortable with. Exception to this rule is the E-25 and the old British TD-line as I've played all of them.
I will NOT be mentoring several players at the same time - as that would give me a massive workload in no time. Dont be afraid to ask if I can mentor you or not. If I am too loaded with stuff I will put you on a nice little waiting list, and then when I have time I will tell you.

What I expect from you
You should be able to take critism (obviously) and willing to learn. I do not want to mentor anyone who will question everything I say. You are allowed to disagree or question me, but if you disagree with everything I point out, then there is no point in me mentoring you. Also I require patience as I am doing this for free (in-game donations are of course welcome ;) ), so if I one week can't mentor you, you just have to respect that.
You should have TS installed so that you can hear me talk. I don't require you to have voice communications, but I require you to be able to listen to me. Real-time feedback is so much easier verbal than written.

I have no expectations about your skill level - you are all welcome. HOWEVER: because of the high demand I have found for my services, I will not be mentoring anyone already with unicum or super unicum recent stats. There is simply so few things for me to help with that my time would be better spent on people more in need. What I do want is for you to have a general idea of WHAT you want to improve. We can have a session together where I try to spot any mistakes you might have, but if you have an idea yourself it will definitely help us both out.

UPDATE 7th Feb:

Ok, now the first week of mentoring has passed and I still keep on getting more and more applications to join the 'Water School'. I have therefore decided to change the format a bit so I can help as many people as possible.

I will now dedicated two-three evenings a week to mentoring people (Monday, Thursday and occasionally Saturday). This means that during those evenings I will spam platoon invites to all of you who have asked for my help. Every hour I will reshuffle the platoon (disband and create a new one) to make sure everyone gets a chance to enjoy my company. I do however not promise I will be online EVERY Monday, Thursday and Saturday, but I will definitely aim to do so.

I will split all of you, my students, into two groups: Those who still want/need help with the different game mechanics, tank knowledge and tactical possibilities; and those who already understand most of the game mechanics and want me to have a look at the smaller errors, thought-processing and increased consistency. This can be seen as "green level" platoons and "blue+ level" platoons. I will alternate between "green" and "blue" platoons on the mentoring evenings.

I will make a list in the OP of my thread with the names of every trainee I have, and what group I have decided they belong to. The groups are not carved in rock, so if you want to change to the other group, that can be discussed.

You can still request a 'private'-session where we can focus on something in particular. These sessions can be placed whenever during the week, but you need to send me a PM about it so we can arrange that.

A final note: This new format is starting next week, but I will not be online Monday and Tuesday next week.

UPDATE 20th Feb:

New update, which is somewhat related to Kolnidurs post: I have decided, because of the high demand, to not mentor anyone who is playing at unicum or super unicum stats when looking at recent. There is simply too little for me to help you with, and you should be able to learn stuff by just watching other super-unicums play. I will also be getting rid of my different groups as everyone is more or less in the same band. Otherwise everything continues as normal.  :)

This looks great so let me apply before there is a long long queue

I am looking for medium tanks mentoring in tiers 9 and 10. There I think I struggle mainly with tanks with medium mobility. They allow me to get relatively quickly to unfavorable position but they are not agile enough to be able to bail out when I realize the mistake. 2 typical tanks suffering the complex are E50 or T54E1. While I usually pull my own weight I die way too early to be able to impact the battle when it matters. So in terms of number I think I need to focus on prolonging my average life expectancy and survival ratio.

2nd improvement area is reading the battle progress past next 1 or 2 shots and adapting accordingly. Lack of this again leads to either above situation or me being stuck at a place with low to no impact on the outcome of the battle.

I take criticism (or feedback as they say nowadays) pretty well especially from a person who knows what he/she is talking about, argues logically and is able to vocalize his thoughts clearly. Which seems to be the case from your youtube commentaries.

Ideal timing would be 9pm on a work day but that is something we can sort out over PMs not to clutter this topic too much.

Hope I am worthy kind sir ,.-)

I would like to learn how to play the FCM 50T and tier 7 French heavy maybe. Can you mentor me in this? I can't get the right balance in aggression and safe play. Usually the team melts around me.

I have experience in medium tanks (russian and british up to tier 7/8). I enjoy my first light tank recently (Chaffee). I'm playing HT too but enjoy the faster MT and LT much more.

Edit - if you aren't keen about the FCM then maybe you can help me to move above 2300-2500 wn8 in my russian mediums?

What I'm looking for is someone to teach me how to not overextend, and to improve consistency, I'm kind of satisfied with how I play my tanks and I'm pretty darn sure I do it right, but there's the brainfart every 5th game or so that I feel like I need to diminish, consistency has never really been my thing. I think it might be because of aggressiveness, I know what aggressive is, but sometimes I wonder if I'm aggressive, or just playing stupidly.

And yeah, my survival rate is probably the lowest among anyone here that isn't an exclusive LT-player. Need to fix that as well, but I guess those two are connected in a sense.

I have all the mechanics down, everything from invisibushing to overmatch, I know most weakspots on every tank and I feel like I can understand the minimap/course the game will take without having to analyze too much.

I'd like to toon, to see what you do differently from me, why you are more consistent than I, if you have another thought process and so on.

I have TS and am open for critique, as long as you don't bash my head against the wall if I do something wrong:

I think we'll get along just fine

First, great idea and very much appreciated that you offer this! I understand that the cue is probably very long by now and thus I may have to wait but there are a few things I would love to learn or improve on:

Medium tanks:

- Keeping the gun in play at all times, avoiding periods of uselessnes

- Pushing the tempo, avoiding reactive gameplay

- City map gameplay for meds (Ensk, Kharkov, Stalingrad,...)

- How to scout

Heavy tanks:

- Finding the fine line between setting the tempo of an engagement while avoiding overextending as well as overly passive gameplay

- IS-6 gameplay (I have lost the feeling for it, god knows how...)

- E 100 gameplay (When do switch from defense to offense)

- AMX 50B (How to carry)

Light tanks:

- RU 251 (How to carry pubs but also how to scout)

- Soon: How to play T8 lights without gun depression (WZ-132, T-54 ltw.)

General:

I would really appreciate getting feedback from time to time because unfortunately, no-one in my clan can (apparently). Also, I would like to improve on enabling my teammates to contribute (pubs & coordinated) - I feel that quite often I could solve situations in ways that are mutually beneficial to everybody but I often just don't recognize these opportunities.

PS: I platoon from time to time with _pip_ from your clan, that already helps but I guess we are more or less on par.

Hey there! If you still have a spot and don't mind to mentor a hopefully up and coming greenie and fellow Scandinavian, I would love to learn from you!

I have an account on EU too and play there from time to time so the meta is not unknown to me. Looking to get out of my current plateau by learning more advanced techniques and most of all better situational awareness. Play either is-3 or 6 on EU and I feel I understand all the basic techniques but lack deeper awareness and plainly a critical eye.

Would be great to toon with you. Even if not, keep posting those great videos on YouTube. Always valuable to watch!

Lol. Just lol. I had no idea my services would be in so high demand. Fuck me. I had to split these multi-quotes in two because the forums doesn't allow 6 quotes in one. Just lol :D

Because of the insane demand I will try and group people together in double lessons, especially if they are dealing with the same thing (high tier mediums for instance). This way I can hopefully squeeze just a few more people in for each session. If any of you would like to NOT have anyone else in the platoon, just let me know.

Do i need to teach you how to heavy? :D I could do a bit of live mentoring cuz yolo all the time

Are you offering me mentoring or are you asking me to mentor you? :P

I don't need mentoring, but thanks for the offer if that is what you are offering.

What a great  idea, I would love to take you up on your offer as I completely suck at high tier meds.

This can be arranged as this is my force. Send me a PM and we can arrange a time for a 'trail platoon'.

I can certainly teach you how to FCM 50t, but not the tier 7 heavy as I didn't play it myself. The best way to teach how to FCM 50t is to not platoon them up 2 and 2 but where you have one IS6 (me) and one FCM 50t (you). Improving your Russian mediums is also something we can have a look at. No problemo. Send me a PM about when you can platoon up :)

If you are up for platooning with others, then I can make some "premium tank"-platoons where we go though the different tanks while playing in a full platoon.

If you are up for a platoon with other people then I can certainly help you with the medium and some of the heavy gameplay. The light tanks will have to be in a two-man platoon (but that can be arranged). Just send me a PM so we can arrange when to play.

Your first paragraphs make it sounds to me like I should/could review the games where you derp out, as that would help you more (just post away in my replay thread). If you still feel like a platoon would benefit you, then just send me a PM and we can work something out. If you just want to see my thought process and so on, then I might group you up with someone else if you don't mind. This will allow you to just follow me around and see what I do.

Send me a PM and we can figure somthing out. Don't know how much I can teach you, as your recent is close to my recent, but we can have a trial session to see if I spot anything obvious :)

Have any tips how not to go full tilted after getting smashed by arty?

Since I suck at analyzing my own plays, could you help me learn how to damage farm?

think my biggest problem is my tendency to yolo even when it isn't beneficial to myself and especially not my own survival, but when I do try to counter it, I end up too passive.

What I could use some help with, is mostly to moderate my yolo, but not become passive, as I'm horribly bad at playing a passive role.

Halp!

So are you looking for montor-platoons or replay analysis?

Also, you should keep in mind that I am not really a good damage farmer myself. I more often play through area denial and value winning higher than personal damage. I will happily look at some of your replays and analyse if you were too passive or missed a good opportunity to farm some damage. :)

Was mainly thinking about platooning a bit, as I think direct feedback is the most effective.
