I've seen it used in a derogatory way "usless Chai sniper"

In a positive way " If only they were more effective Chai snipers"

Sarcastic "we need more Chai snipers"

Hopeful " I need to learn how to Chai snipe better" (this was actually not sarcasm)

 

So, just because I'm always entertained at the thought of finding out what a games idiosyncratic terms are...

It's when you focus on getting damage before anything else.  So sit all the way back so enemies are at the edge of ur drawbox and pew pew.  Preferably position your tank behind the redline (WARNING MASTER TECHNIQUE ONLY!).

It has become a catch-all term for anybody who stays well behind the actual battle and shoots targets that other people are lighting.  In the best of cases it will win the game when you have useful scouts.  In the worst of cases, it'll allow the chaisniper to farm 4k+ damage by never leaving his own cap circle while his team gets steamrolled.

 

It's a play on members of the clan CHAIs' propensity to sit at the edge of draw range and farm damage.

It is basically engagement from outside of spotting range.  Sniping in its purest form is abusing the draw area to deal damage to enemies your team spots. Chai sniping takes this one step further, and is "sniping" in vehicles which are better off on the front line during situations where they are needed. 

 

Think someone in an E-50 sitting on the Mines Ridge, or a T110E3 sitting at A1 on Redshire.

- Pubbies get killed by CHAI players 

- Pubbies went full retard but still expect CHAI players to carry them to a win

Is this always like a bad thing? Because I have seen an E3 do that in a very tier 10 game and holding 4 enemy tanks at bay since they didn't dare to attack.

4 tanks not daring to attack mostly those 4 being kinda dumb. And although It works way more than it should in WoT, making decisions based on "the enemy will be dumb" are not good decisions.

It's basically being able to do early damage by farming pubbies (sometimes butthurt unicums) for their vision. I don't think it has anything to do with their tanks initially, since most of the CHAI snipers play non-pushing tanks like the M48 anyways, but the term might as well have been generalized as of late.

It has become more of a running joke than anything lately. So it's not something to take very serious.

Besides, damaging enemies while they can't damage you is tactically very sound anyway. (yes, there are exceptions blah blah)

In the past (well before Carbon got in) CHAI had plenty of players that were really good at camping and farming empty damage (and thus had purple WN on XVM) but that was about it, you could rarely count on them to do anything else or take a risk that could win a match. And i'm talking about shit like camping the south of westfield while being top tanks and let the team got rolled on the north. It was more of a problem when they were on your team than the enemy team, because they were basically yellows in purple clothing.

 

I understand they got a lot better later on after Carbon got there, but that's what comes to mind when i hear about chai sniping.
