To expand off of what I've seen, and to get a better idea, visually, of what I have been told by top-tier players ingame, I'd like to start a thread to show on maps, good places to go to scout. This partly comes from individual missions, and being able to complete the two annoying ones (spot x dmg before you get spotted, spot x dmg total), but also to become a more effective scout when your team is full of blues/platoons that are competent enough to realize a scout is passive scouting an area and lines up to get shots early in the game.

For this purpose. I'm going to shamelessly copy paste a bunch of maps, and would like you all to give feedback as to where the best passive and active scouting locations are on specific maps. A lot of this comes from Marine's guide on scouting, which started with the PAINT illustrations on maps, which was very helpful, as well as similar threads (sela's where not to go maps, etc).

Most of the maps that I post here will be blank, and will not have any paint on it, as I don't know of good places to go on these maps in the beginning to get a bunch of spots off for my team. The one thing that I ask here is that we don't just spam the thread with a bunch of (Wait for Prok/Mali, everything else sucks). This is not helpful, nor is it wanted by those of us who genuinely want to learn how to scout better. I understand that there are maps which have no great place to passive scout on, so on these I ask where should you go to get a good idea of how many enemy tanks are heading to your side of the map? Things like this.

All constructive feedback is welcome, and I hope to create a thread that some of us can look at while loading into a map with a light to see where to go initially to get a good idea of what the enemy is doing, as well as spots to go for IM's. I will include encounter/assault options under each map as well.

When we get a good drawing of where lights can go on specific maps, we can put up that version in this thread as a picture under a quote, so that we can have a quasi-finalized version of the map.

I'm at work, so I can't do too much with painting maps of bushes that are good that I know of, but I will do so when I get home.

Again, please, I emphasize no posting saying everything sucks but a few maps. I'm looking to be effective on all maps, and where I should go at the beginning to scout who's where on the enemy team. I also would like it if we could keep the colors the same (Red cap base/start point is red circles, Green is green).

Discuss!

Lazy much? Let me guess you are stuck on the scouting missions and now want us to tutor you.

Also use the freaking serach function - you ain't the first one to have created a "milk the brain-trust to improve my shitty scouting skills" topic in this forum. Results from previous threads of this kind? Next to zero. Why? Because nobody is willing to put the amount of work in a good answer would require. Ask about an individual map and you might get a decent answer.

4TankersAndDog has put together a series with scouting positions. You might want to take a look.

Your image linking skills failed a bit. It's all situational. Look at the enemy team composition and predict where they'll most likely go. You'll have to learn the maps.

Your custom font is unreadable on mobile. I used PM the first few times I saw this but maybe public is better.

Not sure why even bother with custom, but at least choose something legible.

I did search, and found various specific maps, and will add those when I have time, but as I mentioned, am at work and have other things going on where I can't do this ATM. (https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=scouting+positions+site:forum.wotlabs.net)

I am asking per individual maps. I'm not asking someone to go through each map and make a detailed guide on each one. I'm asking for common scouting locations on all maps, put into a thread that I and others can come back to to view before jumping into a match.

Exactly what I was trying to avoid. I'm not asking to be tutored. I'm not asking you to do the work for me. If you don't want to contribute, leave. This is why people don't like these forums, and frankly why I'm getting tired of them too. People like you bring nothing to the conversation and only insult for the sake of it. I am a relatively decent player, I know the basic locations, however after talking with decent players who I saw had a great game in a weird position (to me) I found new ones, and it would be nice to see any gems that I might have been missing over this time.

TLDR: stop being a prick.

I will do the images when I have time after work. The extra spaces that aren't being hidden by the spoilers really are annoying and not sure why they aren't hidden...

This is extremely helpful, thank you.

The unfortunate reality is with the maps they are is that passive scouting location guides are a thing of the past. Long sight lines are so 2013, early 2014.

Not anywhere near the question I asked, and also what I asked for you guys not to post.

I'm trying to create this for future references for people trying to get better, if you don't want to contribute, you don't have to. I'm not asking you all to do the work for me. I'm simply putting this out here and will update it with what I find over the course of searching main forums.

You still don't get it. If you took the pain of using a freaking search function just once or alternatively that grey thing called a brain, you would realize several things:

  1. I am one of the people who have contributed solid information (including a lot about scouting) on this forum for a long time.
  2. I am usually not a prick to the people here. But I am very tired of lazy people like you (f.e. you could have waited until you got home rather than posting a half-assed thread).
  3. This thread is a repetition of several older threads which all enjoyed very limited return. Again: the reason for this is that it is too f***ing unspecific! We have ~30 maps in the pool. Do you really think a single thread can give you an indepth discussion about all of them?
  4. By the way, how many top players have answered to this thread? 0! Why? Because nobody who actually has a clue will take the time to answer something as unspecific and inflated as this thread.
  5. Talking about lazy: a day has gone by and you still haven't updated your initial post to incoorporate all that wonderful information the serach function could have yielded.

You can call me a prick all you want. What I am doing is trying to give you advice on how to get answers on this forum. I am using a direct/harsh language in doing so. But unlike you I am not throwing negreps or insults around.

I found these early on too, and they were extremely helpful for me. OP, if you could incorporate these spotting locations onto your maps that would be super helpful to players like me as a starting point. That way before a match I could quickly glance at this page to reinforce which spots would be ideal. Obviously as the game shifts, certain locations might be less helpful, but it's always good to have an idea of the best spots before the game actually starts.

I can understand some of the sentiment regarding "using the search function", but a lot of times I don't require a lengthy in-depth analysis of each spotting position to understand the value of strategic locations. A quick glance at key spots is all I really require to jog my memory about how certain maps should be played.

My 2 cents from a 3k battles pubbie :)

Exactly why I wanted to create this. I'm still drawing them up and will be referring to those as I go. Should be done tonight, then people can debate, we can make changes as needed.

EDIT: Done! Updated the original post. Sent a PM to Gharirey so we can stop fighting.

Please post parts you disagree with. By searching I will keep updating when I have time through posts previously made. Only got through a handful so far.

+1 for your efforts.

I know Tazilon doesn't get any respect on Wotlabs, but when I was learning to play, much less scout, his maps were the best resource on where to go with a tank of any given class.  His maps also showed the general route for the various scouting routes, including active, passive, and "ninja" sniping spots.  Since his maps were made from vbaddicts heat maps, he also included likely arty and TD locations, which was very useful for a beginning player.

Here's an example of what his maps used to look like:

IIRC, circles were tanks, open squares were passive spots, and the fires were areas of major engagement.  Dotted lines were Taz's favorite scout runs.  Other lines were common scout runs.

Im in the process of writing a series of articles on passive/active locations. Not going to go in-depth with maps, but try to educate players as to why areas work and how
