Playing on the NA Server vs. ASIA Server

Recommended Posts

After being on the NA server for so long, I decided to start properly on the SEA server, and I have found the following: (this is just in the last 100 battles or so that I have taken this account more seriously).

NA is very aggressive and more focused on taking objectives (hills, valley etc.) and ASIA is very CAMPY and ambush related (like back of the board campy).

I seem to see more Chinese tanks than others (but that could just be coinsidence) and TDs seem to be more popular due to the campy nature.

Found that if you get followed to an objective don't expect anyone to hang around if they are shot at. I have at one point been tracked by an ally just so the other guy could get away. lol.

So many lost encounter battles where no one does damage. (except for my self)

Now I am sure some of that is completely wrong, but that Is what I have found playing Tier 5s and 8s the last couple of days. Is this what the ASIA server tends to be like in PUBs?

See, it's threads like this that make me scared to move over to the SEA server. On the one hand, I would love to be able to actually get into CW / Strongholds / Tournies, but then I read stuff like this and it throws me off.

I keep hoping that they will make server roaming a thing - but I'm not really counting on it happening any time soon.

Something about 5x or 10x draw rate due to averseness of CHN players to risk-taking.

Can confirm, most CN server players are pretty campy.

It's the counterpart to RU server's YOLO style.

This is the most defining characteristic of the ASIA server. Passive play and TDs being totally out of position/render range is very common, especially on maps like Prok and Malinovka. Base camping on Malinovka by 2/3 of the team happens 50% of the time or so from my experience. It takes an eternity for pubbies to push and more often than not, the average window-licker only advances after you die in an attempt to launch an offensive.

Don't have the numbers but anecdotally speaking, TDs are indeed very popular (at least 5 per game usually), which contributes to cancerous high-tier meta.

The official site said that the KV-1 was the most popular tank on the server though.

That's just a dick move by your ally. Like that episode where Shane shoots Otis to escape in The Walking Dead. Definitely not a common thing.

Encounter games where both teams do minimal damage and win by capping out are probably not any more common than on any other server.

Out of curiosity, have you played on the NA server at all? If so, would you have any recommendations either way for moving across to the SEA server? As I said earlier, I'd love to be on a server where I could actually do clan stuff, but am hesitant to do so based on everything I hear.

Other than accidentally downloading the NA client when I first saw the game (lol), I have no experience at all on that server. I don't know how bad the average pubbie is there but at the very least, I would like to be insulted in a language I can understand. Interestingly according to the stats I've seen on FTR some time ago, the average wn8 of ASIA pubbies is a tad higher at around 800 (probably attributed to the more campy playstyle here, allowing them to get off one more shot of damage).

As for CW, I'm sure regular posters Stormtroop3r and Dumbo_Is_Awesome would be glad to answer your questions. I'm still grinding for CW tonks and have minimal experience in CW so far.

I just don't understand how there can be such a difference.

I got called a cheater because I flanked around someone and just kept shooting his ass!

I have been called Hacker and things like this on the NA server, but It just seems to be a more often occurrence.

I actually think playing on the NA server first has made me a better more aggressive player, and I am looking forward to getting a tier 10 on that server and start some clan wars.

I would agree but I had 3 games in encounter on mines where I played hill and the enemy capped out with no side doing any/limited damage.

It just boggles the mind.

Pubs have already been described. They are alright, but the packet loss to the server is quite annoying (at least from the east coast, due to rerouting).

In terms of stronks, tier 6 is the only ones you will ever play and they are horrible. 99% of teams will camp their base for 15 minutes, destroying all fun they provide.

CW is alright, there is a lot of chip spam (4S and FBB) and the amount of competent opponents is low. A player like yourself could quite easily get into a top 10-15 clan.

The main problem though is management. Tanitha (who runs the server and the aus/nz community) is the most incompetent moron I have ever seen. He has said that mods like the fabled "warpack" or any form of cheating are allowed (he recommends that you don't do it though). Even cheating in a campaign is completely allowed.

youre probably seeing those chinese tanks because of their discounts and added crew xp or whatever.

alot of the pubbies donst speak much english which makes teamwork pretty goddamn hard, and their insults are limited too, youll get cheater, hacker, stupid stuff like that often.

we also boast the highest average WR overall for the server, which basically means less draws because idiots yolo left, right and center when common sense dictates they will be killed.

i suspect the low english literacy rate combined with a lack of guides in non-english languages common on this server might be the cause of this, no solid proof though.

as for SH/CW, can confirm what dumbo said. what WGASIA is doing might be more or less correct for a company, their attitude towards users is negligent and some mods(Tan) are outright stupid.

Did he play on both servers or just the China server? The draw rate on Asia doesn't seem to me to be extraordinarily bad, but from the horror stories I've heard about the China server that doesn't sound unbelievable.

CW on this server is pretty stale, CR/D has been non-existent since C2, there's always one farming conglomeration that controls half the map, add to that delaying tactics (like ye olde PVP on NA) such as 4S main through to 4S20 and a very disgruntled player base (at least among those that speak English) since the end of C3 thanks to WG Asia's incompetence and you get CW on Asia.

As to SH, tier 8 SH are non-existent except at server prime time (1 or 2 in the morning AEST) and tier 10 SH doesn't exist at all.

Thats not what i see when i play on ASIA, my father has an account there, tier 10. IS-7, i have played it and the tanks up to it a fair bit. Camping is what i got from EU meta, on ASIA there literally is no meta from what I can see. People just go to the most random places. As in driving up the middle road on Karelia (as a green player) and not instantly dying. Its strange, i try to go to places that are normal for NA meta, and get ripped apart by like 4 tanks that come from a direction that would get you instantly killed on NA, and meanwhile your pubbies are somewhere else entirely, in a position that would be useless on NA but farming heaps of damage.

I think I'll start a test account on SEA and play a few games to see how it goes

Remember that anything under tier 5 is absolute shit and in no way indicative of any kind of meta. Tier 6 and above is usually where you start seeing some form of tactics or strategy (don't expect much though).

Thats the different meta for you. But seriously, ASIA server is really passive most of the time.

Asia isn't passive, or at least not so much more than NA/EU that it's the most defining aspect of the server, ofc there are going to be pubbies that hard camp every game but that's not unique to any server, the pubbies here are just random who do the stupidest shit, but because everyone else is also doing equally stupid shit it somehow constitutes what passes as a "meta".

ASIA player here.

Draw as far as I know is relatively rare, mostly only happens in tier 9-10 battles at very campy maps (Swamp, fairy sailent with 4 spgs, etc). Probably my aggresive/vision control playstyle also contribute to less draw in general, though.

Chat is rarely used due to language barriers. However, I find communicating with map ping/various command/request buttons works most of the time unless you are facing <50% players. Simple chat could also work sometimes.

Meta is quite random just like someone already stated above, probably quite campy if compared to other servers (I haven't tried any other server before though so I can't properly back this up). One thing that I'm quite sure is that the overall knowledge of high level gameplay mechanic is pretty low, so abusing vision for example could easily won you many matches. Basically, expect mediocre pubbies to only able to shoot spotted tanks and drive without much planning. If you need some partner for flanking movement, try to lead but make sure that he's following you and knows what he's doing. If not, simply treat them as fixed gun plattform and literal punchbag.

Mediums, however, usually are driven by much more competent players and you usually don't need XVM to tell that a plat of 3 tier x soviet mediums are most likely driven by great players. Negating them usually are the key for the victory.

Well, I'll be setting up a trial account, and if it all goes well may just move across.

And more often than not, this constitutes kemping in an utterly ineffective position where they can't even point and click at the enemies you spot. Oh, I haven't had shots for the past 5 min? Let's not move up but instead sit here and wait until my allies collapse and someone drives into my gun! If that's not called passive, I don't know what is.

Also, you have allies in a 2 v 1 situation that are totally unwilling to push and take one hit to win an area or even a corner brawl. If you're not actively leading the charge, you're gonna get stalled and lose the other flank. But as one player, you only have so much HP to go around. Call it stupid or passive, but the meta is exceptionally campy once tier 7 and up is involved.

Haven't noticed it to be honest.

And for every one of those I see someone yolo their IS-3 across an open field because logic.

I've only played on SEA so can't comment really, but the most annoying thing about SEA server is the packet loss. Shitty ping is bearable (personally I've never had less than 200ms ping) so long as it's consistent, but the rubber-banding and shit that packet loss causes is awful.

If I hadn't already sunk way too much time into my SEA account I'd reroll on NA in a heartbeat.
