Handicapped players?

Recommended Posts

I like to think of myself as a compassionate man. Everyone deserves respect, even if they've slighted me. Nobody's perfect; everyone makes bad decisions. But for some reason, I will get worked up over someone throwing a game by basecamping and let vitriol spew forth in team chat.

TBH, my transformation from compassionate to angry is the one thing I hate the most about this game. But that's not really the game's fault. It's my own shortcoming for being overly competitive.

One of the reasons i've quit.

Malcolm Gladwell's book "Outliers" suggests, that it has an overall negative effect on most people, but the people who make it out the other side come out stronger. Advocating a course of action that has a low success rate, but is wildly successful for those few, does not seem like a great strategy.

But my biggest problem with this thread starts on the first page:

Why?  What does that accomplish?  I'm playing the same game you are, watching the same people snipe in their E-100s, and agonizing over full health players too scared to take a hit for the win...but what does your anger do for you?

It seems like you are giving other people control of your own mental health.

You SHOULD care about the horrible losses caused by your teammates.  It is justifiably frustrating.  But then, we all go into every battle knowing 30% are auto win, 30% are auto loss, and 40% are within our power of a single person to influence.

you should have read my entire post instead of just 1 line and disagreeing with that.

Lel, but I'm actually disabled IRL.

I'd rather call you "enabled" when it comes to tonks

Read your post again...and I stand by my first response.

Good for you, having thick enough skin to overcome.

Good for you, having the creativity and tenacity to find your way.

But one guy with CP isn't going to convince me that because insults were a net positive for them, that they are potentially a good thing in general.

Sometimes people need to hear they are dumb and retarded, but go about it the right way is my point.

I don't believe this, even for the example of handicapped kids seeking pity.

I have two friends who play WoT and one is Asperger and the other one Autistic.

Both are better than the average.......

"I am normal so Kewei is disabled compared to me"

Obj261 was stabbed in the left hand: http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/356863-i-am-leaving-world-of-tanks/page__fromsearch__1

...but was back to very high level play in less than a month: http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/363916-im-back/page__fromsearch__1

I know a couple of autistic players who aren't bad at the game.

If someone is still playing significantly worse than the deaf guy, the one-handed guy, or the autistic guy, it's probably not just a disability.

Would you expect that to impact their gameplay ability? Being deaf, autistic, asperger I don't associate with impact on gaming ability although I don't know much about them. It's a different story if it's literally a 6 or 8 year old kid, or someone that has a physical handicap making it hard to manage the mouse or keys, etc.

Being stabbed in the hand is the closest example, and even there I could see a fairly limited impact on gameplay compared to other examples (only one hand, etc).

I don't really care about the argument much, but these seem like poor examples if you are trying to show skill ceiling for players with a handicap.

I was actually trying to prove the opposite; in most cases, a disability has little to no effect on tanking ability, and therefore shouldn't be used as an exuse for awful play.

However, I suppose it could also be argued that although disabilities don't matter much at high levels of play (perhaps even being a benefit in some cases), they do hurt the learning curve, making them progress to those higher stages more slowly.

You are trying to prove that disabilities have little effect on tanking ability, by referencing examples of disabilities that I would expect to have little or no impact on gameplay (primarily social/interaction related).

If you want to make that argument, you would look for examples of someone playing at a high level with a disability that you would expect to influence gameplay due to motor control limitations or cognition limitations, etc.

True, although this is not as easy in the Government workforce, lol.

lol

I call it the "Gubblemint".

Well, call it a coincidence, I stumbled upon this vid just now:

The guy in the video also reached diamond in League of Legends (when it was hard) playing a mechanically-demanding game with his feet.
