WoWS General Patch Discussion (currently 0.6.0)

I really consider selling the Fletcher and rebuying the Farragut for it. I know the Fletcher is excellent but I can't get it to tick for me - 5 straight losses yesterday before I could glean a win after easy wins in Kiev (omg so OP ship), Fujin (also totally balanced) and Myoko (tier VII MM > CAs bad). I think I am too bad at rainbow guns, can't make them work, especially after playing ships like Kiev...

Same with Benson, great in ranked, but not really working for me in random. And I don't think we will get a tier IX ranked season any time soon (or at all).

Plus Gearing is basically a Fletcher with better gun layout and longer range on torps but at tier X. So imho it's a downgrade tier for tier. Still I probably slog through the remaining 30k exp and then see what gives.

Maybe we even get a prem Farragut or Benson sometimes so that I only need 3 US DD Captains (Gearing, Clemson Farragut/Benson) instead of 4.

I couldn't stand the sight of 20+ million credits in my port, so I bought a New Orleans.  It's...not as bad as I thought it would be?  With the concealment mod, the detection range is down to 10.8 km.  That feels almost destroyer-like after the Pensacola, which can be seen from low Earth orbit.

Honestly, the Pensacola would be a great ship if it had more concealment. The gun handling on that ship is amazing. Too bad it's on a tin foil platform with poor concealment.

The ship may be strong, but the baddies driving it are not.

For a lot of people, myself included, it was my first tier 6 DD and at the time I really didn't understand how to play it properly. So that drags down the expected values. Plus it isn't quite the straight up seal clubber the Clemson or Isokaze is because of the changes to MM so it doesn't have a ton of skilled people playing it to balance out the noob players. So it's kind of perfect for someone with a decent amount of skill to stat pad in. (If that's your thing.)

From my own experience I find DDs to run pretty hot or cold, meaning great games are really great and bad games are really bad. For example, last night I couldn't get good performance in my Fubuki in 5 matches even though I typically get good results in her. (Probably cursed myself equipping the dragon flags to grind out the last bit of experience for the 5th point to get CE) But the other matches I played in other ships my performance was pretty solid. Some of that was having effective CV players on the red team that kept me spotted most of the games. The other I imagine is just not getting into the groove or the zone or what have you with that particular ship. Usually if I feel like I'm playing poorly in a given ship I'll end up shelving it for a bit and stick to ships I'm having fun in. I might revisit it from time to time to see if anything has changed with it. Sometimes I end up clicking with a ship after a hiatus. That's kind of what happened to me in the Kiev; first 50 or so games my performance was utter shit. So I shelved it for a bit. When I ended up picking her back up I started to click with her and my performance and enjoyment went up. Now it's one of my go to feel good ships that I play if I end up having a rough session.

I guess what I'm saying is you should probably hang onto the Fletcher for now considering how expensive that ship was to buy in the first place and maybe come back to it later?

I got half my dragon flags (the ones for the number of games) but I don't have my T10 flags yet...

It'll be another year at least before I have a tier 10.

Hmm...despite being surprised that the NO is not complete shit, I am struggling with its short range.  Whenever I find myself in range of the enemy, I am promptly dead.

Are you stock? If not just be patient. Let something else go in and be a more inviting target, and then open up on them.

I'm not enjoying the Bayern so far. I'm finding the guns juuust too derpy for good use. The other 8 gun BBs all feel significantly more accurate and effective. To try and counter-act the derpiness, I'm getting in closer, but while I don't take citadels, it still feels like a lot of damage.

I assume it'll click, but at the moment I'm struggling after the fantastic Konig / pretty decent Kaiser.

For me DDs are the most consistent class. Clemson, Kiev, Fujin, Fubuki, Shimakaze - these all work great with very few bad games interspersed if either a CV runs amok uncontested or I make a really bad judgement.

But Benson and Fletcher are highly inconsistent for me - likely bc I do not trust myself to hit anything in them and consequently loose the capping game.

Just yesterday I was in a game against 2 Fubukis. I contested the cap and, ofc, they both turned up at my cap... I got one or two salvos in (with 1-2 hits each, so no big damage) and then they did what every IJN DD should do: turn away. It's that simple for IJN DDs to outplay USN DDs - turn away, work your 4 guns and small profile. I don't get how anyone (except in a Gearing) can fight an IJN DD at 6km that simply turns away in an USN DD.

It suffers the same problem as the rest of the DE 15 inch guns which are that they fly too flat and pen too hard up close (plus lolgerman fire control) but with the added disadvantage of losing a lot of their pen as they fly so their medium range performance isn't great. I've actually gone hard off rail guns of late generally because they're just too powerful. The Japanese 16 inch gun is probably my favourite gun right now because it's right in the sweet spot of velocity, mass and penetration.

If they're the pattern, then, in theory,  the slower, but more accurate Warspite 15" guns will be a better version of that.

The Warspite absolutely has the best guns in tier. I actually think the US 14" gun  has a lot recommending it in the current DE BB meta. The Japanese 14" is great but it's on a rubbish platform. Then again a lot of sins can be forgiven when your primary armament is amazing.

Bayern shells feel like spitballs compared to Warspite, hell i like the Konig 12" guns more, better accuracy and reload and they felt strong, even vs tier 7's

Interestingly enough I had a match on Trap last night with two fubukis divisioned on the enemy team contesting C cap. And the beginning played out pretty much as you described with me landing two salvos on each one, doing *some damage* and forcing out smoke. Because they had decent CA support I was forced to withdraw. However once I got a bit of range I was able to bait the cruisers and harass them which allowed the friendly BBs loitering near the northern spawn some juicy side shots on the CAs which promptly wrecked them. With the CAs gone I was able to push back into C and spot the IJN DDs killing one personally, the other dying to friendlies. We capped C, pushed into B and victory was ours.

Honestly it was a lot of work. And you're right that IJN can be a bit of a pain when played intelligently. But if they are unsupported your best bet is to push into them. If they are showing you tail they're not torping. If they open up broadsides then you know they're dropping fish so adjust speed and heading accordingly. If they have a lot of support sometimes your best bet is to retreat, conserve health and wait for a counter ambush opportunity. Sometimes just being annoying helps create openings your team can exploit.

Anyway for me this week has been a bit hard on the DD front because of CVs. Not the usual crop of bots and shitters, many on team red know exactly how to keep DDs cockblocked. lol

No, I have the upgraded FCS.  I have been playing the Yorck and Shchors lately as far as cruisers go, and they both out-range the NO despite being down a tier.

I found the Dunkerque to have a amazing citadel potential. It has just enough pen to constantly citadel cruisers but also enough to get penetrating damage to other BBs and citadels also because BBs like sailing broadside to me for some reason, I guess they think my guns can't hit them. I get more citadels in this ship them any other BB I've ever played

I really like the Dunk's guns. I don't know what combination of dynamics they have, but the super tight groupings and sheer hard-hittingness is nice. I should be using HE more, I think, but the flexibility means it's usually really easy to just shift to a better target.

On other notes, as I'm divisioning with a fair of colleagues who are discovering ships (and are... not great), I'm experiencing a lot of the lower divisions with more focus these days. But as they've reached tier five, I'm reminding myself how magic the Kongo (still) is. Well, ARP Hiei, but still – the Kongo is magic. Fast, agile, solid guns, the angled armor is very solid.

Konig has really good guns. Very fast and flat flying shells and top level accuracy (sigma 2.0 afaik, same level as high tier BB's).

The kongo is a trifecta, much like scharnhorst/Gneis, and Amagi or the US fast BBs. Solid armor, mobile, and packing a punch. very similar to tanks, and why the RU mediums are so popular at tier 10.

TFW you should just ragequit a bad session but keep trying to turn it around.

Tier 8?  Nope.
Tier 7?  Nope.
Tier 6?  Nope.
BBs? CAs? DDs?  Nopenopenope.

Ugh, that splash of autumn on my signature.  Boo.
