Object 279

Recommended Posts

http://ritastatusreport.blogspot.nl/2015/05/yuri-pasholok-q.html?

- It's theoretically possible to introduce Object 279 into the game but it would have to be nerfed to the ground, especially its impenetrable hull;

The tank:

First thought is "wtf"

How would you guys balance this ridiculous tank?

I thought there was a big discussion about this tank some time ago, and how it will not get implemented into the game. Althought i would want that tank, even if it was OP. You always have arty which can help you to kill it :^)

Edit:

This special purpose tank was intended to fight on cross country terrain, inaccessible to conventional tanks, acting as a heavy breakthrough tank, and if necessary withstanding even the shockwave of a nuclear explosion. It was planned as a tank of the Supreme Command Reserve.

nvm

Object 279 during trials:

(so much mud, yet so mobile, 1000 hp diesel engine stronk)

The armor, well:

1314695851_279j_1244124287.jpg

UFP of 260mm @ 50 deg, slowly thingin / sloping to 80mm @ 80 deg, LFP is 230 / 50 deg till 130mm / 55 deg, also 300mm turret side armor, because yolo :P

The roof is rly weak though (30mm), and so is the lower half of the side armor, except a thick layer of spaced armor covers that mostly

So this thing will be so OP, OP is an understatement, the gun is ofc also OP (wiki has good lin, cant find back the screenshot with gun specs)

https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C-65#cite_note-.D0.A2.D0.9208-08_55-3

Угол наклона, град \ Расстояние, м 1000 2000 3000 0 280 245 215 30 240 206 175 60 114 97 85

(280mm @ 1k, GG)

So no, this will never come to wot, unless WG totally gimps it, making it really slow, the gun derpy, and making its armor articial weak, but RL this thing would shit on anything fielded by anyone till 1970 or so, its armor cant be penned head on, nuke proof and a gun which can wreck any tank on almost any range and since wot makes paper tanks always as good as they are in theory, this thing will be not 1 but 2 tiers higher as tier 10 tanks...

I love this tank so much, imagine driving through the middle of live oaks with that insane terrain resistance and popping out from the middle sub 2 minutes with three of these things, so fun. Looks like something from area 51.

And the reason they didn't actually produce it?

(find that answer, and you'll find the crack WG would wiggle in to)

On July 22, 1960 at the demonstration of new technology on the range of Kapustin YarNikita Khrushchev strictly forbade any tanks with a weight of more than 37 metric tons to be adopted by the military, having thus written off the entire program of heavy tanks which proven to be so successful

so heavy tank programm got scraped :P

Easy to penetrate if it's not hiding tracks.

You see those gaps between the tracks? Yeah, those are both the fuel tanks and (as its still part of the hull) connecting points for the outer-side roadwheel. In WoT that can easily be modeled as a 100mm thick weakspot. (as you've seen sticking out of tanks like the 110)

...

Bur if you get a position where the tracks are hidden, GG.

Immune to nuclear strikes.

Still vulnerable to oneshots by arty.

Provided the nuclear blast was at least 1km away for a <5 megaton bomb.

It's not meant to take a direct blast from above, but from the side/front/ass.

Did they actually test it with nukes? Because i find it hard to believe that thing could survive a 3-4 megaton bomb that close.

Afaik tanks biggest problem is they flip because of the blast, this thou would stay on its tracks and operable more or less. Kinda gives you the chils knowing they designed tanks to operate in near vicinity of nuclear blasts. Times were grim and darn cold back then, good thing the clock never struck midnight.

It was the time when failure wasn't an option. I always liked the Cold War designs the best, how some of the engineers found solutions to these problems. You bet your ass the solutions worked in the end also. As said earlier, failure wasn't an option, and the cost of screwing up unimaginable.

Tank survives for use by a different crew I suppose?

I know some soviet soldiers in the cold war were given pills they were told would prevent radiation sickness.  They were sugar pills.

Or that these canvas suits and gas masks will protect against radiation while servicing nuclear engines on submarines.

Stats of the 130mm M-65 on the Object 279:

note the stats of the D-54TS used on the T-62A, Object 140, ect

They also designed a 180mm missile launcher for it.

Just lol at the penetration numbers from the Taran, both the 130mm and the 152mm oO

This is from this book:

  • М. В. Павлов, И. В. Павлов. Отечественные бронированные машины 1945—1965 гг. // Техника и вооружение: вчера, сегодня, завтра. — Москва: Техинформ, 2009. — № 9. — С. 53.

Atleast that gives wiki as source for the penetration table, the book itself is ofc unfindable
