if you happen to shit gold or are a tank collector, yes, otherwise not really. It's an IS-6 that trades pref MM and gun handling for higher pen and slightly improved armour. Might be pretty good at stronks tho.

Personally I wouldn't buy it just because of the stupidity of WG's "play to pay" model.

The is8 hull shape makes it largely unusable which wouldnt be an issue if it had is8's mobility, which it doesnt. Having a better turret/side armor than IS8 doesnt really make a difference when the front hull is garbage. It cannot facehug same tier heavies as the reduced angle will allow ~210 pen guns to go through the upper plate. Sidescraping is problematic as with all pike noses, however even more so with the IS5 as any slight change makes the upper plate autopen and its extremely hard to conceal due to its gigantic size.. IS3's pike is relatively small in comparison. Hulldown doesnt work too well as there are very few places on maps where you can hide the gigantic pike nose while using -5 gun depression.

So basically the armor is shit and entirely RNG related if you bounce anything.

Gun is both a strength and weakness. .46 acc is god awful along with terrible gun handling. The gun just derps shells wherever it wants fully aimed or clutched. 221 APCR /1400 velocity and 270 pen heat are definitely a strength however. IS5 makes really good money since it can see/pen tier10s frontally.

 

I have extremely mixed feelings about the tank. On one hand it is complete garbage in terms of gun/armor reliability. On the other hand it makes very good credits due to not needing gold spam.

It's not that great, but if you plan to play in tier 8 Strongholds with it you can make enough credits to make it worth it.

 

 

It's basically an IS-3 that is better in some ways, and worse in others. Overall it's slightly worse, but for Strongholds it's far better than running an IS-6 or WZ-111 because you don't have to shoot premium ammo.

If you play an insane amount of SH and bored of the other tier 8s sure, it earns more than the IS-6 because it doesn't need prem rounds and is significantly faster

Yes. It is a somewhat rare tank that gets a good standard round. You can use it in tier 8 stronks without people bitching at you for picking a shitty tank. It is worse than an IS-3 but workable. 

But I do not understand how the credit multipliers work on this tank. I have not gotten over 100k profit once but I'm also rarely below 40k. I had a game today where I did a grand total of ~1100 damage mostly to lower tier tanks and still got almost 40k. That makes it a very reliable credit maker for me, even though it doesn't make sense.
