Tank selection is monumental for WN8 at higher levels. I love looking through my history and seeing the dips from when I've punched through TDs versus the rise when I start a new medium.

That's why I'm still impressed by the non-padded people who play everything instead of being "specialists" in mediums/lights.

Here's my wagonwheel. The IS-6 and SP for credits hurts variety a little. But, 2680 == unicum, right?? Can I get into -G- now?

Crab nailed it. Some of us have been talking about this for a while, as I did in my modest proposal a while back. And we caught quite some flak for it, mostly from a certain Pokemon-themed clan.

WN8 is calibrated for mid-range. It loses statistical validity the higher you go. While you can be reasonably certain that a 2K WN8 player is better than a 1K WN8, and still somewhat certain that a 3K WN8 player is better than a 2K WN8 player, it is not at all certain that a 4K WN8 is THAT much better than a 3K, or a 4.5K vs a 3.5K-- at that level, the noise from artifacts such as tank selection and individual playstyle exaggerate numbers to the point of uselessness. Just looking at my own potato stats (or potats™ for short), tank selection can alter my short-term WN8 by up to 600 points. At the higher end, I'm sure 1 or 1.5K swings are not out of question.

It's not that the 3K+ WN8 players aren't incredibly skilled-- they undoubtedly are. Most if not all of them are top of the charts on PR and other metrics. It's just that it is harder to discriminate between players at that level by just looking at the little 4-piece stat block.

I wouldn't take any flak seriously if it comes from people who can't be bothered to read up on your rationale in your proposal/how the metric works. What you just said won't convey anything to people who don't want to believe anything out of it. There are a handful of 5kers who are undoubtedly top notch and then you have a lot more 4k+ers who couldn't get the same numbers if they played a ton of TD's or heavy tanks. Thats why I am happy with my recent since I prefer to play heavies. Meds are fun but heavies are where its at.

I figured I could actually contribute instead of being snarky since I'm a PP.

 

Roughly half of my games are in med/light tanks.

I just hit purple in my Tortoise over the weekend, debating if I want to push to 3 MOE in it.

AMX 30 P, Comet, E-50 are stupid easy to hit 3k+ in. A-44 and WZ-120 I am surprisingly not doing well in.

My Bulldog and Vk 28.01 are actually bringing my WN8 down. I'm far too aggressive in light tanks and constantly get punished.

It's pretty simple actually: I can't play slow turds the enemy can run away from. I tried playing the E3 a bit but you know what people do when they see me rolling up to them with 3.6k wn8 and FAME tag? Exactly. They run to the nearest lake and drown themselves (has happened on multiple occasions). So yeah, if you wanna get the D you can't be slower than your prey.

I agree slow tanks are shiet for stats. I love the Tortoise, but for every disgusting game where I put out 5k damage, I have a 800 damage game because I couldn't get to the battle in time to be effective. 

But legit 5k could overcome that without padding meds right?
