How do you play artillery?

Recommended Posts

Short answer: You don't.

Long answer:

You go download XVM while licking your screen because you obviously have some serious issues by having to ruin a great game for others, you start by looking at the loading screen where you will instantly pick a target with the highest XVM and focus him the entire game. You hold your shots for him to stay still whenever he is hull down or well, whenever he is spotted. When he is not, you ignore everything else and just hold the same spot while you browse porn and start fapping with your other hand, you tab in to the game again and yet again, try to click the poor soul. During reload you switch to porn yet again, not finding yourself able to ejaculate because your only real turnon is that XVM number, the highest one. There isn't a better feel than clicking someone purple on XVM. So you try and try, to harass the fucker out of his mind, laughing at the fact that you're making this game miserable for him. And then, you finally get him, and you cum all over the screen and feel a sick need to lick it up because you're that retarded to even play artillery in the first place. After about a thousand cancer wishes you actually get it and die. Don't play arty. It results in death.

TBH, its really easy as mentioned, but heres some actual helpful stuff

1) You should know where the brawling areas are. Look for a good angle to get an early shot into that area
2) Different rounds have different flight times, get used to the differences
3) The further you are away from the enemy, the easier it is to hit them and pen w/ HE.

I've played around with artillery recently, and this is the biggest advice I could give. If you're a decent player, you know where the main fights are going to be. Your job is to help your team win those fights. Bad artillery players will XVM snipe and shoot people that aren't relevant. That doesn't win games. That camping TD in the back that doesn't have shots on your team is not going to be able to deal damage until the enemy has already lost the game. Don't fuckin' waste a shot on him.

The artillery player that can read the minimap and flex by remote detonation is the one that can win games. Basically, you need to focus down tanks that are in defensible positions in the main brawls -- hulldown or sidescraped tanks are target numero uno, especially if your teammates are trading with those tanks unfavorably by bouncing/whiffing their shots while eating return fire.

Since you've learned how to play the actual game and not only this artillery bullshit, being an effective artillery player is easy as fuck. You know the key contests of the map. Move your artillery into a position to hit those areas if at all possible. Most artillery players will hide in the nearest bush. If you move to get a good angle on a brawling corridor, you're going to be a huge asset to your team.

Basically, imagine that fucking artillery player that rekt you while you were winning a game in your squishy medium. Goddamn, that was a fucking lucky shot that won that game. Flip that around and be the artillery player that lands the game-winning money shots. Skeet skeet, motherfucker.

Don't be afraid to move in your arty.  Seriously, shoot then move for a better/different angle.  You've got time during the reload, check the minimap for what flank is falling or needs help, aim there and move accordingly.

And since you DO have that time during reloads, be eyes for your team.  "E75 you have an is3 coming around the building behind you"   For ever 3 times you're ignored, you can WIN the fuckinig match just by alerting a teammate to an issue.  You can also count tanks so that you can tell your team when/where they have an overmatch

Know the patterns of movements of tanks.  For instance, when brawling, typically a heavy will fire then start backing up to reload, learn to time your shots for right when they start backing up.  It's a balance for how close or far away you want to be.  The farther away you are, the more arc you'll have and the better chance you'll have of penning a tank, but the farther away you get, you'll also get worse and worse accuracy and longer and longer shell travel time, making it that much more difficult to hit a target if it moves or is moving.  I generally like to play closer to the action, but it has definitely backfired many times when the flank I'm close to collapses.

Im in the process of cancering the game away to get a female crew member and for some god forsaken reason the french tier 5 arty gets 230 pen APCR rounds

so basically

-use the arty mod

-hit some shitter for 350 dmg every 12 seconds

proceed to feel bad

then solopub and get sub 50% win rate becuase arty has no carry potential

uninstall

Read Folterknecht's guides and watch a few of the youtube videos he linked. Especially his comments on Tyraforce's arty guide are really helpful.
The difference between a good and a merely decentish arty player is night and day. That said you rarely meet good arty players.

I think getting a decent win rate is still possible, but harder and it will never be as high as say the WR of a same tier medium.
When it comes to the arty mod: It's useful for shots you couldn't mae otherwise i.e. below the bridges on Life Oaks or the hall on Himmelsdorf tracks. However in a lot of other situation the arty mod disturbs your idea of how likely a hot is to connect: It makes improbable shots over hills look like a 90% chance to hit.
