Basic rundown as to what I am looking for:

Had a friend that knows small computers tell me what to buy and help put the pieces together like 3 years ago.  Don't really know how or what he did, but for the last 3 years my computer has been doing just fine.  I have heard and read recently that people are able to run WoT\D3\other games at higher FPS with "newer" equipment.  Also I know that computers should be upgraded every few years to "keep current."

Dual Video cards

660Ti is running the 2 monitors(got monitors for free)

650Ti is dedicated to PhysX(which I don't know what that means) but that is what I was told to do.

 

TL;DR:  Want higher FPS, and if can upgrade, please advise.  Budget roughly $2k

Your friend who asked to get the 650Ti should not be let near computers. PhysX is an Nvidia proprietary physics engine used in very few game titles, where the physics calculations can be delegated to the GPU instead of running on the CPU. In games where PhysX aren't used the card is effectively useless, utterly. You can't SLI the cards together either because they are different cards.

Your rig isn't old at all, if anything it still works perfectly fine. If you really want to upgrade getting a new video card should suffice. $2000 can get you anything and everything.

What I m trying to figure out what you really need, the build you have their under your desk might be sufficient with just 2-3 upgrades. I v got the impression that your current build wasnt exactly tailored to you needs the last time. Atm I m considering the following upgrades:

 

- bigger (and better) SSD

- GPU upgrade, your current combo of 660TI/650Ti is pretty "interesting"

- maybe switching those two TFTs for a single 27" 16:9 1440p IPS

If you want to do some upgrades.

  • SSD like suggested.
  • Change out the dual card arragement for either two cards that are actually SLI (Both the same model) or a single card from this generation (900 series)

can't see any other upgrades that wouldn't be major work to do.

Basically run Wot, WoWS, Armored Welfare, D3, and GNS3 for Cisco labs.  Watch online videos, and surf the internet. 

I use 2 monitors because I prefer to have 2, it's just a personal preference thing, if it's bad I am willing to change that.   

Why is the current GPU setup "interesting?"  I am not following, you and Haswell make it sound bad.

It's "interesting" because physx is, as Haswell pointed out, a proprietary NVidia technology that is only used by a handful of titles, none of which are on the list of games you say you play.  It doesn't hurt anything to use an old gpu that you have lying around as a dedicated physx card, but building a new rig with a card specifically ordered for that purpose is just a waste.

Your Graphics set up is interesting because its defeating the purpose of running more than one card. I suggest 2 of the same cards and SLI them :)

If you wish, though WoT doesn't scale terribly well with SLI/Xfire. There will be some performance increase, but I have no idea how much.

Monitors are typically plugged into the card that comes first on the PCI bank (the card closest to the CPU), though you can config this in the drivers I think.

Yes and no.  SLI will improve performance in games that are optimized for it, but it will open you up to microstutter and other common SLI-related issues.  The only reason to run SLI or Crossfire is if you a) need to upgrade on a budget, or b) insist on being at the bleeding edge.  If I were in your position with your budget, I'd pick up a current-generation video card (probably the 980 given your resolution and the games you play), get a good 1440p monitor (you can still use your old one(s) as secondary), and probably good SSD if you don't have one already.

I am confused,

Get 2 of the same cards and SLI them together but WoT isn't optimized for that and I could get yet another problem?

Or don't and just upgrade the SSD?  

Or run just one (upgraded) monitor?

1) From a performance standpoint 660Ti + 650Ti is a waste of money. A single 670 or 680 would ve made more sense.

2) Putting two very old (2 GPU generations) into SLI is nonsense, if you have money to do it the right way. And that's beside the fact that SLI and Crossfire are depend on profiles and even than can be problematic (micro stutters)

 

I suggest the following:

- buy a GTX 970 (320$) or 980 (500$)

- upgrade you SSD to 512 GB or 1TB (Crucial BX or Samasung 850 Evo) starting around 150$ for 512 GB

 

optional:

- take a closer look a widescreen monitors 21:9 (curved in the example below)

Thats why I suggest a 512GB SSD - to get rid of that loud annoying raptor ;-)

 

edit: If you re interested in watching BluRays on your PC, you can swap your current for ~40$ to one that can also read those.

You'd be trading performance for convenience.  In a perfect world you'd just get a 1TB SSD and have the best of both worlds.  If you can't or won't do that, using the SSD as a cache would give you faster performance than just using the HDD (albeit still slower than using the SSD), but you wouldn't have to worry about varying load times on programs and resources.

You'd be trading performance for convenience.  In a perfect world you'd just get a 1TB SSD and have the best of both worlds.  If you can't or won't do that, using the SSD as a cache would give you faster performance than just using the HDD (albeit still slower than using the SSD), but you wouldn't have to worry about varying load times on programs and resources.

Is there a guide on how to set this up?

Raptors were good about a decade ago, now in the age of SSDs they are just really fancy paperweights TBH. But at least you can be proud of owning a 10k RPM drive.

1TB SSD drives already exist, in SATA form too unlike the older expansion card ones. Expensive as hell, but quite literally the top of the line. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147362

Shfty - forget about that cache nonsense and get 512GB or 1TB SSD and gift your old one to someone who only runs a HDD.

yes - but please dont just run off and buy "something". I put links in my post with that monitor video for a reason.

If you re a dual monitor kind of guy, I suggest go into an electronic store and take a look at these monitors (27" 1440p or 21:9 ) first, before you buy blind online.

 

Furthermore it makes more sense to buy the GPU after you decided what to do monitor wise!

4k is still too gimmicky for my money.  I'd go for a solid 1440p (love my Acer Predator), 1tb SSD, and a GTX 980.  You could go with a 980ti if you want, but for the games you say you play it's not necessary.
