So I know I've posted about this before... please don't prosecute me

Anyways, I come bearing new information!

My computer is still being an absolute bitch and has freezes constantly (while gaming) A deep freeze that forces a manual restart of the computer as nothing functions while the computer shits itself.

Here's what I've done to "attempt" to solve the problem as per the advice of many computer savvy individuals:

-Check for overheating (max temp was 40C while intense gaming)
-Replace RAM
-Change PCI slot of graphic card
-Change graphics cards
-Power supply is 750W so more than enough
-Checked Connections
-Ran Antivirus & manually checked computer
-Factory reset & updated to latest windows
-Updated all Drivers
-Updated BIOS
-Replaced Boot HDD
-Windows 7 (Still froze)

I've had some people look into my computer and according to them there is nothing wrong with any of the parts and the computer reports no errors and creates no logs when frozen.

Here are my specs btw:

GPU: GeForce GTX 950
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-9590 Octa-Core Processor
Memory: 16 GB
MOBO: Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 rev 4
PSU: 750W
Boot HDD: 250 GB
HDD: 500 GB

Anyone has any idea what would be causing this and how to fix? I just want to be able to game uninterrupted again :cri:

Start menu > search for Event Viewer

Windows logs > System > Save all events as...

Upload and post the log file here and maybe there might be some clues. Since you already reset Windows it shouldn't be a software issue, so I'm leaning on the hardware side. Dying mobo or CPU, maybe, but those are pretty rare.

Can you just upload the file? The unformatted log is literally eye cancer.

Also, try to make it hang again, restart, then save the log, to make it easier to find where stuff starts going wrong.

Okay, here's a link to a less cancerous Event-Log

I had two freezes back to back at around the 8:06 AM area give or take

Dying mobo or CPU, maybe, but those are pretty rare.

in case I do need to purchase a new mobo (I think that is what might be wrong)

what would you guys recommend I purchase within a $100 budget?

Did you do Memtest86?

Downclocked CPU?

results?

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only install device drivers - no fucking software packages that come with GPU, mobo, mouse, keyboard or printer or other hardware

Also deinstall/dont install after a fresh install of windows:

  • all Gigabyte related software you might have installed (Easytune ...)
  • vendor specific software (GForceExperience, gaming mouse or keyboard software, printer suites - your printer works just fine via pure windows driver in most cases)

Just pure device drivers!!! And do it step by step to have a chance identifying the real culprit

Welp, the log doesn't really say much. Possible leads are defective processor (all those cache hierarchy error) which may or may not mean much and HAL errors that might suggest your BIOS is fucked up somehow. The two might be linked to each other as well since a faulty BIOS can mess up power delivery and regulation to the processor as well.

Since the hangs only occur when the system is under load (gaming), I'll throw a wild guess out here your chip doesn't play nice with the auto turbo clock speeds, either a power problem or just a really bad chip. Flash your BIOS again with the newest file (make sure to do it while IN the BIOS itself using a USB stick, windows-based flashers sometimes fuck up) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4672#bios. If problem persists, disable turbo.

If after that you still hang, then we can explore other possibilities (and probably end up with you buying something).

@Folterknecht I don't think the memory is the problem here, since the issue started before he replaced his sticks and continued after, and memory errors usually plaster the event log. Won't hurt to run memtest, but also not really diagnostically important right now. All things point to a hardware problem since he already reinstalled Windows and every other software.

You are probably right, but the two tests I suggested (Memtest and down clocking) are easy to apply. The thing is that the 9590 is a trouble magnet, its in its nature: 8350s usually go to around 4.5-4.7 GHz and everything thing else is luck of draw. These chips are really running close to the edge from factory and it wouldnt suprise me one bit, if from time to time AMDs binning isn't catching every bad apple (also dont forget that highly OCed CPUs degrade over time, if the voltage is to high).

Also there is generally a correlation between achievable CPU speed (OC - and thats what AMDs has been doing here) and RAM stability. If you get near the peak of a CPU you usually will see decreased maximum RAM speeds. So bringing the clock speed down here even serves to probe several potential error sources:

  • power delivery
  • cpu speed issues
  • RAM related issues caused by high clocks (mem controller)
  • defective sticks or MB issues with RAM

Haven't done Memtest yet but I did downclock. Same result & computer froze.

As for not installing anything after a fresh install, I attempted that with Windows 10 & 7 to no avail. Computer still managed to shit itself.

That's because AMD overclocking works on the FSB as well as the core clock multipliers, the RAM clock multipliers will have to be lowered when you start ramping up the FSB clock or else you'll end up with 3000mhz out of a 1333mhz stick or something silly like that. AMD Turbo however doesn't touch the FSB clock, it only increases the core clock multipliers which won't affect memory speeds. Hitting the memory speed ceiling is also fairly unlikely at stock clocks + turbo assuming everything else is stock, and even then 1333/1600 are pretty low clocks.

That being said, since higher core clocks can't usually be achieved manually without touching the FSB, the notion of lower memory clocks for higher core clocks is still valid but only at higher levels of OCing. For example, to double my FSB clock (100mhz -> 200mhz) I had to bump my memory multiplier two steps down from the vanilla 1600mhz to 1066mhz just so it won't shit itself after the FSB got pushed up. 800mhz stock was the lowest it can go, so in extreme cases like using LN2 to push the FSB even further I would have to drop down to 800mhz stock, a long way from the vanilla 1600mhz.

But that's way off topic. Did OP brick himself with a bad BIOS flash this time?

I doubt it's the BIOS, like I've said before, I've reinstalled & updated everything including the BIOS. Up to the newest version.

Not sure if this is something that is helpful but I did put a *band aid* that lasted for about a week. I had updated the BIOS (still froze) & then update windows and from there it was a couple days to a week without any freezes.

Someone is bringing me a new MOBO so I'm going to try and test it out with a new model and see if that fixes things, will keep updates.

The HAL errors in your log suggest a BIOS problem, either the file was faulty in itself or just a bad flash. If you are dead certain your flash was good, then at least try disabling turbo and try again.

Little Update:

Computer is now occasionally freezing whilst simply browsing the net and such.

Also, the MOBO still has warranty so I will be sending it back if possible and get a replacement
